Roblox does not have an official offense called “admin abuse.” Players use the phrase for a moderator or experience creator who uses in-game powers unfairly, arbitrarily, or in a way that breaks Roblox’s platform rules. Whether a particular case counts depends on which rulebook applies: the experience’s own custom rules, or Roblox’s Terms of Use and Community Standards. The points below reflect Roblox’s official support guidance as checked in October 2026. Policy wording and report screens can change, so confirm the current version on Roblox’s support site before you file an appeal or report.
Why there is no single “admin abuse” rule
Roblox’s official materials do not define the term. Instead, a moderator’s conduct is judged on two levels. The first is the experience’s own rules, which a creator may set for players in that game or community. The second is Roblox-wide conduct policy, which applies everywhere on the platform. A complaint about a punishment usually belongs to the first level. A complaint about harassment, threats or unsafe conduct usually belongs to the second. Sorting the complaint into the right level is what decides where it should go.

Two different meanings of “admin”
The word “admin” can describe two very different people, and mixing them up causes most confusion.

A Roblox employee is identified by Roblox’s official Admin icon or badge. Roblox’s staff identification guidance states: “Roblox administrators will never ask you for your password.” A person who uses the word “admin” in a game but has no official badge is not Roblox staff, regardless of what they claim.

Creator-defined roles
An experience or community can create its own role named “Admin” or “Moderator” and assign it powers chosen by the owner. Roblox documents that creators can set up custom roles and permissions, including permissions to manage experience bans. The label on that role does not make the holder a Roblox employee.
| Question | Roblox staff | Creator-defined “Admin” or “Moderator” |
|---|---|---|
| How to recognize them | Official Roblox Admin icon or badge | A role label set inside the experience or community; no Roblox badge implied |
| Who sets their powers | Roblox | The experience owner or creator, through custom roles and permissions |
| Where a rule dispute goes | Roblox Report Abuse for Terms or Community Standards concerns | Appeal to the experience creator for custom rule disputes |
| Where a platform-wide violation goes | Roblox Report Abuse, naming the specific person, chat, experience or content | Roblox Report Abuse, naming the specific person, chat, experience or content |
| Permitted to request a password | No; Roblox says its administrators will never ask for one | No; a password request is a reason to report the account |
What creators can and cannot do with custom rules
Roblox’s Custom Experience Rules support page states: “Creators can make custom rules that govern their experiences and the actions of users within those experiences.” That authority has three limits:

- The rules must be clearly accessible to players.
- They may not conflict with Roblox’s Terms of Use or Community Standards.
- They must be applied fairly. Roblox Creator Hub says creators should not enforce rules arbitrarily or target users without basis.
A creator can therefore ban a player under a posted rule even if the player finds the ban harsh. A creator cannot use a custom rule to permit conduct that Roblox’s platform standards prohibit, and a rule that is never posted is harder to justify when it is enforced.

These are applications of Roblox’s fairness guidance and its platform-wide prohibited conduct, not a separate checklist. Whether a specific incident breaks a rule depends on the evidence, the context and the experience’s published rules.

- Which rule was cited? If none was given, that gap is itself relevant evidence.
- Was the rule posted where players could reasonably see it?
- Was the conduct part of normal enforcement of that rule, or does it look like threats, harassment or targeting that Roblox’s standards prohibit?
If the answers point to a custom rule that was posted and applied as written, the route is an appeal to the creator. If they point to conduct that would break Roblox’s own standards, the route is a report to Roblox.
What to do, step by step
- Save evidence. Keep screenshots or a recording of the conduct, the ban or warning notice, the rule cited and any relevant chat. This is practical documentation advice, not a Roblox-prescribed requirement.
- Appeal custom-rule disputes to the creator. If the dispute is about an experience rule, contact the experience creator directly. Roblox says it does not handle appeals for violations of custom experience rules.
- Report platform violations with specifics. If the conduct appears to break Roblox’s Terms or Community Standards, use Report Abuse and name the specific person, chat, experience or other content. Roblox advises reporting specific material because a profile-only report may not show moderators what happened.
- Use the in-experience option. Inside an experience, open the menu and choose its Report Abuse option. Roblox says this option remains available in experience controls.
- Report impersonation and password requests. If someone claims to work for Roblox but lacks the official badge, or asks for your password, report the account.
What a ban can and cannot establish
Being banned from an experience by a creator-defined moderator is governed by that experience’s rules, and Roblox does not hear appeals on those custom rules. Roblox also does not guarantee that a report will reverse a creator’s decision. A Report Abuse submission is most useful when it concerns conduct that breaks Roblox-wide standards, such as harassment or threats, because that is the category Roblox moderates directly.

The clearest way to frame a complaint is to identify which level it sits on, which role the person holds, and whether you are disputing a single decision or describing a pattern of arbitrary or targeted conduct. Those distinctions determine whether you should appeal to the creator or report to Roblox.
