The filename alone does not prove that a copy is genuine: verify its location, Canon digital signature, printer context, and security status before deciding what to do.

Windows can start the process when a Canon printer is installed, when a print job is being rendered, or when the Print Spooler reloads its driver components. It may therefore appear briefly or remain present while the printer software is loaded even if you have not just clicked Print.
Is cpc10d.exe safe?

Why is cpc10d.exe running in Task Manager?

1. Record the error and installation details
Before changing anything, write down the exact error text, the full path shown by Open file location, the printer’s model name, your Windows edition and build, and whether the file has a Canon signature. Note whether the problem occurs only for one document, every document, or every printer. This information prevents you from installing a driver for the wrong model and gives a technician something specific to diagnose.

2. Clear every stuck print job
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 11, or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners on Windows 10.
- Select the affected Canon printer.
- Choose Open print queue (the wording may appear as Open queue).
- Cancel each pending document, including jobs shown as paused or deleting.
- Wait for the queue to become empty, then try a small test page.
Microsoft identifies stuck queues as a common printer problem. If a job will not cancel, leave the queue window open and continue with the Print Spooler restart below.
3. Restart the Print Spooler service
- Press Win+R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Find Print Spooler in the list.
- Right-click it and select Restart. If it is stopped, choose Start.
- Open its Properties, set Startup type to Automatic, and select Apply.
- Test the printer again.
The Print Spooler manages print jobs in Windows 11 and loads the relevant printer-driver components. Restarting it clears a service hang without deleting the installed driver.
4. Install the current driver through Windows Update
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install available printer or optional driver updates.
- Restart Windows if prompted, then print a test page.
Microsoft recommends Windows Update as the first method for obtaining printer drivers. If it offers no suitable package, continue to Canon’s official support page for the exact printer model. Do not select a merely similar model: PageComposer components and driver files can differ between model families and Windows architectures.
5. Download the exact Canon package when Windows Update has no match
- Read the printer’s model label or the name shown in Printers & scanners.
- On Canon’s support site, search that exact model and select your Windows edition and system architecture.
- Download the current printer driver or full software package supplied for that model.
- Close the print queue and other printer utilities, run the installer, and follow its prompts.
- Restart Windows and print a test page.
If the installer reports that the printer is already present, do not keep stacking packages. Remove the obsolete entry and driver as described next, then install one correct package cleanly.
6. Remove duplicate or obsolete Canon drivers

7. Reset the spooler queue files when jobs remain stuck
Use this step when the queue keeps repopulating or the spooler stops immediately after a restart. It requires an administrator account and removes pending print jobs, so save any document you still need to print.
- Open Services with
services.msc, right-click Print Spooler, and choose Stop. - In File Explorer, enter
%WINDIR%System32spoolPRINTERSin the address bar. Approve administrator access if Windows asks. - Delete the files inside that folder, not the folder itself.
- Return to Services, start Print Spooler, and confirm its startup type is Automatic.
- Reopen the printer queue and send a one-page test job.
If Windows will not let you clear the folder, verify that the spooler is stopped and that no print-management utility is still open. If the service stops again, proceed to driver removal rather than repeatedly deleting queue files.
8. Reinstall the printer connection
When the driver is correct but the printer still fails, remove the affected printer from Windows, disconnect it if it is USB, restart the computer, and add it again from Settings > Printers & scanners > Add device. For a network printer, confirm that the printer is on the same network and use the manufacturer’s documented address or discovery method. A cable, port, network, or printer hardware fault should be considered only when other printers or a clean driver installation work normally.
9. Scan before isolating or deleting an abnormal executable
If your copy is outside the spool-driver tree, lacks the expected Canon signature, or has an unexplained parent process, preserve the path and file details, run Microsoft Defender or another trusted scan, and follow its quarantine instructions. Do not assume that deleting cpc10d.exe will repair a spooler failure: the printer may still have a broken driver package, a stuck queue, or a damaged service configuration.
What if Windows says cpc10d.exe is missing or cannot be found?
A “missing” message commonly means that a Canon driver installation still references a file that was removed, quarantined, or damaged. Do not download a standalone replacement. If a security product quarantined the file, review its detection details before restoring anything. Can I delete cpc10d.exe?
Do not manually delete it while the Canon PageComposer component or associated printer driver is installed. The spooler may fail to load the driver, and printing can stop. The supported objective is to remove the Canon printer or software through Windows, then install the correct replacement driver if you still need the printer.
If you no longer use any Canon printer that depends on the package, uninstall the Canon printer software and remove its driver through Windows.
