cyclonispasswordmanager.exe is the main Windows program file for Cyclonis Password Manager. A copy installed with the password manager from Cyclonis’ official distribution is consistent with a legitimate component, but the filename alone cannot prove that an arbitrary copy is safe. Check where the file is stored, inspect its publisher, and scan it before deciding whether to keep or remove it. cyclonispasswordmanager.exe is the primary Windows executable that starts Cyclonis Password Manager. Historical version records place it in a Cyclonis Limited program folder alongside cyclonispasswordmanagerupdater.exe. The desktop application works with Cyclonis browser extensions; those extensions require the desktop application to be installed.

Cyclonis’ downloads page lists Windows desktop version 2.4.2.133 and states support for Windows 7 and newer. Treat that number as the version shown on that page, not as proof that it is the newest build available today. Installation paths can differ by version, whether the program was installed for all users, and choices made during setup.

Is cyclonispasswordmanager.exe a virus or is it safe?
It can be legitimate when it belongs to an installation you intentionally made, but a familiar filename is not authentication. Judge the specific file using its source, location, publisher information and a security scan together.

If you installed Cyclonis Password Manager from its official downloads page, the executable is expected. Microsoft advises downloading software only from official websites or the Microsoft Store to reduce the risk of unwanted software. Be cautious if the file appeared after a bundled installer, an unsolicited download, an email attachment or a peer-to-peer package.
2. Check the location and publisher
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Find Cyclonis Password Manager or the process named
cyclonispasswordmanager.exe. - Right-click it and choose Open file location.
- In File Explorer, right-click the executable, select Properties, and review the General, Details and, when present, Digital Signatures tabs.
A directory under a Cyclonis Limited or Cyclonis Password Manager folder is consistent with the historical installation record. A copy running from %TEMP%, a browser-download directory or an unrelated Windows system folder deserves additional investigation. Do not treat a company name shown in file properties as conclusive by itself; compare it with the installation source and scan results.
3. Scan an unexpected copy
For a file you did not expect, or one flagged by security software, open Windows Security, choose Virus & threat protection, and run a scan. You can also right-click the file in File Explorer and select the Windows Security scan option when available. If a threat is detected, follow Windows Security’s quarantine or removal instructions before attempting to launch the program.

No current SHA-256 hash, certificate thumbprint, prevalence statistic or independent malware-analysis verdict is established for every copy of this filename. That absence does not prove the file is malicious or harmless; it means the individual file must be verified on its own evidence.

Launch failures usually come from an incomplete installation, damaged Windows install records, missing legacy Windows prerequisites, a browser-extension problem or a security product blocking an unexpected copy. Work through the least destructive checks first and preserve your vault before uninstalling anything.
Check whether Windows is supported and fully updated
- The Cyclonis downloads page lists Windows 7 or newer for the desktop application.
- On Windows 7 SP1, Cyclonis says update KB3033929 is required.
- Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 require update KB2919355 according to Cyclonis’ FAQ.
- The same FAQ lists Windows 10 as requiring no additional service pack.
- Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. A supported Cyclonis build may still run, but an unsupported operating system receives no ongoing Microsoft security fixes, so include the operating-system status in your risk assessment.
Install pending Windows updates, restart, and try the application again. On an older release, obtain prerequisite updates through Microsoft’s update channels rather than an unverified download site.
Restart and test the desktop app
- Save work in other programs and restart Windows.
- After signing in, launch Cyclonis Password Manager from the Start menu rather than a shortcut that may point to a removed version folder.
- If Task Manager shows a stuck Cyclonis process, select it and choose End task, then try once more after the restart.
If the program opens after a restart but later stops responding, note what action preceded the failure—starting the app, unlocking the vault, updating, or opening a browser extension. That distinction determines which repair path is safest.

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Cyclonis Password Manager, select the three-dot menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, wait for Windows to finish, and test the application.
Repair is intended to correct program files while preserving the installation. If your Windows edition does not show Advanced options or Repair for this desktop program, use the Control Panel uninstaller or continue to the installation-record troubleshooter instead of deleting the executable manually.
Repair damaged installation records
Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter can address corrupt registry keys and incomplete install, uninstall or update records. Use it when setup repeatedly rolls back, Windows says the program is already installed, or uninstall fails because an older version cannot be found. Select the option that matches the problem, choose Cyclonis Password Manager from the detected list when offered, and allow the tool to repair the record. Restart Windows and test the official installer again only after the record repair completes.
Reinstall from a trusted source
If files are missing or the installation is damaged, download the installer again from Cyclonis’ official downloads page. Do not substitute a third-party “DLL fixer,” repackaged installer or random mirror. Before removing a working installation, export an encrypted vault as described below; reinstalling without a backup can leave you unable to recover data if the master password or local vault is unavailable.
Why is the Cyclonis browser extension not working?
The browser extensions depend on the desktop application, so an extension can appear broken when the desktop executable is not running or the installation is incomplete.

- Confirm that Cyclonis Password Manager opens normally on the desktop.
- Enter the correct master password and check whether Caps Lock is enabled; Cyclonis specifically lists both checks for sign-in problems.
- Update the browser to its current available version.
- Close and reopen the browser. If that does not help, restart Windows.
- Test the extension again only after the desktop app is running.
If the extension still fails while the desktop app works, record the browser name and version, disable other extensions temporarily, and reinstall the Cyclonis extension from the browser’s official extension store. Avoid installing an extension package from an unofficial download page.

What should I do if security software flags cyclonispasswordmanager.exe?
Do not assume the alert is either a false positive or proof of malware. First separate the computer from sensitive work if you are actively using the password manager, then identify the exact file and let Windows Security or another trusted antivirus product complete its scan.
- Note the full path shown by the alert.
- Open the file’s Properties and record the publisher and version details.
- Run a Windows Security scan and follow its quarantine or removal instructions.
- If the file is unexpected, remove the associated application through Settings > Apps > Installed apps after the threat has been handled, rather than deleting random files from the Windows directory.
- Change important passwords from a separate, trusted device if you believe an unknown program had access to an unlocked vault.
Keep the alert name, detection time and path for support. A scan result attached to one file does not establish that every copy of cyclonispasswordmanager.exe is malicious, and a clean scan does not authenticate an installer obtained from an untrusted source.
Can I delete cyclonispasswordmanager.exe?
Do not delete the executable directly while Cyclonis Password Manager is installed. Manual deletion can leave broken shortcuts, services or uninstall records and may remove the program without addressing a suspicious copy’s source. If your goal is to remove Cyclonis, back up the vault first and use Windows’ normal uninstall route.
Uninstall while preserving the vault
- Open Cyclonis Password Manager and export an encrypted vault before uninstalling. Cyclonis says this export includes usernames, passwords, notes, profile information, IDs and payment information and remains protected by the master password.
- Store the encrypted export in a location you control and verify that you can locate it. Keep the master password; Cyclonis states that, by design, neither you nor anyone else can decrypt or access the vault without it.
- If you export to CSV for migration, remember that Cyclonis describes CSV as plain text. Import it into the destination manager, then securely delete every CSV copy from the computer, recycle bin and any temporary folder.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select Cyclonis Password Manager and choose Uninstall. On older Windows versions, use Control Panel > Programs and Features and the Cyclonis uninstaller.
- Restart Windows if prompted, then check that the application and its browser extension are gone.
Uninstalling does not automatically erase the encrypted vault. Cyclonis says the vault remains on local storage or the cloud provider you selected unless you manually delete it. Delete that stored vault only after confirming that your export works; manual deletion is irreversible. If you no longer know the master password, uninstalling cannot restore access.

What information should I collect before asking for help?
- The Windows edition and build, including whether the machine is Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- The Cyclonis version shown in the executable’s Properties or the app’s About screen.
- The complete file path and publisher shown in Properties.
- The exact error text, when it appears, and whether the failure affects the desktop app, updater or browser extension.
- Whether Windows Security or another antivirus quarantined the file.
- Whether you have a recent encrypted-vault export and the correct master password.
Do not post your master password, exported CSV contents, recovery information or a full vault file in a support forum. Screenshots should hide usernames, email addresses, license details and any saved credentials.

Can I migrate passwords with a CSV file?
Cyclonis supports CSV export, but the exported file is plain text. Complete the import into the new manager, confirm the records, and securely erase the CSV and any duplicate copies because anyone who opens it can read the credentials.
