Emilia’s main strength in This War of Mine is her mood resilience. Her named trait, Talented Lawyer, makes her harder to push into depression and lets her recover from both good and bad moods faster. She is not a standout hauler, fighter, or guard. Her listed inventory and combat and guarding ratings are average at best, so her value lies in keeping the group stable rather than in producing loot or defending the shelter.
What Talented Lawyer does
Talented Lawyer is the trait that defines Emilia. The community-maintained Fandom skills reference describes it as making her resistant to depression and quicker to recover from positive and negative moods. Resistance is not immunity. The same character profile says she can still become sad and suffer the effects of a bad mood, so the trait slows the slide rather than preventing it.

In practice, this matters most when your group is under sustained strain: long nights of scavenging, repeated losses, or a shelter that is running short on supplies. A survivor who recovers faster from a bad mood spends less time in the states that lead to arguments, refusals, or reduced effectiveness. Because the benefit is about recovery speed, it is most noticeable across a run rather than in a single day.
Her baseline stats
The same community profile lists the following values. These are game reference figures, not measurements from independent testing, and they may change with patches.
#1 Best Overall
- Inventory size: 10 slots. The profile describes her small backpack as a limitation for scavenging.
- Combat proficiency: D.
- Guarding proficiency: D. The profile rates her guarding performance as poor.
- Running speed: medium.
- Other listed trait: coffee addiction. This article does not quantify its effect.
Taken together, these values mean Emilia does not bring a scavenging or defensive specialty. A character with a larger backpack or a stronger guard rating will usually cover those tasks more efficiently.
Morally costly choices
The profile describes Emilia as relatively unconcerned by many theft and murder outcomes. This can make her a practical choice for clearing dangerous places or for crimes the group has already decided to commit, because she is less likely to be derailed by the moral cost. This is a personality tendency described in the profile, not blanket immunity to consequences.
Rank #2
Two limits apply. She can still become sad after a crime, and when she is in a bad mood she may argue or fight with other survivors. The outcome also depends on the scenario and the rest of the group. Sending her on a theft or a risky raid is reasonable when her mood is stable and the rest of the group is steady; it is a poor choice when she is already upset or when her presence might provoke conflict among survivors who are reacting badly to the same act.

Where to use her
Use Emilia in the following roles, in roughly this order of priority:
Rank #3
- Morale anchor. Keep her in the shelter during high-stress stretches to help the group recover from negative events.
- Situational dangerous task. Assign her to a dangerous place or a morally costly action when her mood is stable and the team can cover her weaknesses.
- Supporting scavenger. Use her on shorter or lower-stakes runs where a 10-slot inventory will not limit the group.
Avoid making her your primary hauler or your main guard. Her 10-slot backpack and D guarding rating mean other survivors will be more reliable in those jobs.
How to compare her with other survivors
If you are choosing between survivors, four questions make the comparison clearer:
Rank #4
- How well does the character resist and recover from mood changes?
- How much can they carry while scavenging?
- How proficient are they in combat and guarding?
- How do they react to morally difficult choices?
Emilia scores on the first and fourth questions. She is weaker on the second and third. Other survivors have different trait profiles, so the best choice depends on which of these gaps your current group can cover.
Sources and limits of this guidance
Character traits and ratings in this article come from community-maintained Fandom references, which are not official developer guides. Steam’s store listing, published by 11 bit studios, describes the game’s general loop of daytime shelter upkeep and crafting and trading, with scavenging at night, but it does not describe individual character traits. Because the values are community-reported, check the in-game character screen after any patch if a figure matters to your decision.
Best Value
No official developer statement about Emilia’s abilities has been published, so the descriptions above should be read as community consensus rather than design intent.
