eq.exe is not a unique Windows system file. The same filename is used by unrelated programs, including the Java-based Execute Query application and an EverQuest/Project 1999 launcher. Check the file’s identity
- Right-click
eq.exein File Explorer and select Properties. - On the General tab, record the complete Location and file size. Expand the window if the path is truncated.
- Open Details and note Product name, Company, File description, and File version. Blank fields or a product name that does not match anything you installed are warning signs, not automatic proof of malware.
- Open Digital Signatures, if present. Select the signature, choose Details, and confirm that Windows reports a valid signature and that the signer matches the application you installed. Do not install several unrelated Java versions merely to make the message disappear. Record which runtime the application documentation calls for, remove a broken installation through Windows’ normal uninstall process, and then install a clean compatible runtime. Afterward, test Execute Query from its own folder before changing desktop shortcuts.
2. Repair or reinstall Execute Query
- Back up any Execute Query project files or configuration you need.
- Uninstall the existing Execute Query installation through Settings > Apps > Installed apps, if the uninstaller is available.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the application again from its project distribution or another source you trust.
- Test the newly installed
eq.exefrom its own program folder before recreating desktop shortcuts.
A clean reinstall restores the launcher and related files together. Launch from the game folder
- Open File Explorer and browse to the folder that contains the EverQuest installation and its launcher files.
- Run the supplied launcher or
Launch Titanium.batdirectly from that folder. - If the game starts, close it and create a shortcut to the batch file rather than moving the batch file itself to the desktop.
Create a correctly configured shortcut
- Right-click
Launch Titanium.batin the EverQuest folder and choose Show more options > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut), or create a shortcut manually. - Right-click the new shortcut, choose Properties, and open the Shortcut tab.
- Confirm that Target points to the batch file in the EverQuest directory.
- Set Start in to the EverQuest folder, without adding the batch filename to that field.
- Select Apply, then launch the game from the shortcut.
Do not move the batch file to the desktop: doing so can break relative paths to game resources and cause Windows to search the wrong directory. If the file truly is absent from the game folder, use the game’s official repair or reinstall process instead of copying an executable from another player’s installation.
If launching directly from the folder works but the shortcut does not, the executable itself is probably present and the shortcut configuration is the defect. If neither method works, inspect whether antivirus software quarantined a game file and use the game provider’s repair process.
