maine-win64-shipping.exe is the Windows game executable for Grounded. Steam’s depot manifest places it at GroundedMaineBinariesWin64Maine-Win64-Shipping.exe and lists a file size of 103.24 MiB. A copy in that directory is probably the genuine game binary, but a filename alone cannot prove that a file is safe. What does the executable do?
When you start Grounded, the launcher hands control to this binary. It loads the game’s code and supporting assets, communicates with the graphics and audio drivers, and connects to the Microsoft, Steam or Epic services required by your edition. If Windows cannot start the executable, the game may return to the launcher, crash to desktop, or display an access-violation or fatal-error report.
Why does the name appear in error reports?
Windows names the process that failed, so the filename can appear even when the underlying problem is elsewhere. A runtime library, graphics driver, damaged asset, overlay or modified configuration may fail during startup and cause Windows to report the game executable. Seeing Maine-Win64-Shipping.exe in a dialog does not, by itself, identify the cause or establish that the executable is malicious.

Corrupted or incomplete game files
An interrupted update, disk error or security quarantine can remove or alter the executable and its dependencies. The launcher may then close immediately or report that the game failed to start. File verification is preferable to manually replacing one file because it checks the installation against the platform’s records and can restore several damaged items together.

Steam lists outdated Windows, graphics drivers and non-essential background software among common launch causes. 1. Verify Grounded’s files
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Grounded and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files (or Local Files, depending on the Steam client).

- For a 64-bit Grounded installation on 64-bit Windows, run the current
vc_redist.x64.exeinstaller. - Choose Repair when the installer offers it, or install the package if it is absent.
- Restart Windows, then try Grounded again.
If the installer itself fails, remove an incomplete Visual C++ installation through Settings > Apps > Installed apps, restart, and run the supported installer again. Do not copy VCRUNTIME140_1.dll into the game folder: that can create version conflicts and leaves the underlying runtime installation broken. The x64 package is the relevant choice for the 64-bit game; installing an unrelated DLL does not substitute for repairing the runtime.
3. Update Windows and the graphics driver
- Open Settings > Windows Update and install pending updates. Restart when Windows requests it.
- Install the latest driver offered for your graphics hardware by its manufacturer or through the supported Windows update channel.
- Restart once more before testing the game.
Grounded’s store listing specifies Windows 10 64-bit as the minimum operating system. A system below that requirement is not a supported baseline for troubleshooting this executable. Keep the operating-system and driver update separate from other changes where possible, so you can tell which action altered the symptom.

4. Remove conflicts temporarily
Close or disable non-essential software for one test launch:
- Steam, Discord or graphics overlays that inject an in-game display;
- mods and altered configuration files;
- overclocking, frame-tuning and hardware-monitoring utilities;
- recording, RGB-control and other software that hooks into games.
Do not uninstall these programs immediately. A clean test tells you whether one of them is involved. Re-enable them one at a time after Grounded launches normally. If the crash returns only when a particular overlay or mod is active, contact that software’s maker or remove the modification rather than replacing the official executable.
5. Reinstall only when verification cannot recover the installation
If Steam verification cannot complete or the game still crashes after the runtime, Windows and conflict checks, uninstall Grounded from Steam and install it again. Keep the installer and the game on a drive with sufficient free space, and allow Steam to finish all updates before launching. A reinstall is a last resort because it takes longer and may not address a driver or overlay problem; it should follow, not replace, the less disruptive checks above.
How do I repair the Epic Games Store version?
Epic Games Store provides a file-repair command rather than Steam’s wording.

If the DLL message remains, repair the Microsoft Visual C++ x64 runtime and restart Windows. Then update Windows and the graphics driver and test with overlays, mods and other non-essential software disabled. Do not copy files from a Steam installation into the Epic directory; let Epic restore the files belonging to its own package.
What is the Microsoft Store repair path?
Obsidian’s support guidance for the Microsoft Store edition describes a complete uninstall and reinstall as the available repair route. Back up your saves before removing the game, then reinstall it from the same Microsoft account and allow all updates to finish before launching.
The Microsoft Store edition does not use Steam’s Verify Integrity of Game Files command. If reinstalling does not resolve the error, record the exact message and contact Grounded support rather than downloading an executable or DLL from another site. Keep evidence of the edition you use, because support steps and file locations differ between Microsoft Store, Steam and Epic packages.

What should I do if security software quarantines the file?
Do not restore or launch it immediately. Record the detection name, keep the file quarantined, verify the installation through your launcher, and submit the detection and platform details to Grounded support or your security vendor.
Does reinstalling the Microsoft Store edition preserve my saves?
Obsidian advises backing up saves before the complete uninstall/reinstall route. Make that backup before removing the game, then reinstall through the same Microsoft account and confirm your save is present before deleting the backup.
Is a copy in Downloads automatically malware?
