That makes memorph developer workflow software. It is not part of Windows, it is not a hardware driver, and it is not a registry cleaner or general system-repair utility. Is memorph safe to install on Windows?
There is enough positive evidence for a careful installation, but not enough to promise absolute safety. Option 1: install with npm
- Install a current Node.js distribution that includes npm, if it is not already present.
- Open PowerShell or Command Prompt and run
npm install -g memorph. - Close that terminal window and open a new one so the global npm executable directory is re-read.
- Run
memorph --helpormemorph listto confirm that Windows can locate the command.
This route uses the npm package manager and is convenient when Node.js is already part of your development setup.
Option 2: install with uv
- Install the
uvtool using its documented Windows installation method. - Run
uv tool install memorph. - Open a fresh terminal, then test with
memorph --help.
The uv route keeps the tool installation under uv’s management and avoids manually choosing a global pip environment.
Option 3: install with pip
- Check the interpreter with
python --versionorpy --version. The package requires Python 3.10 or newer. - Create and activate a fresh virtual environment if you want to isolate memorph from other Python packages. For example, run

A virtual environment is an operational best practice rather than a maintainer-tested requirement. It prevents unrelated packages from changing the interpreter used for memorph.
How do I verify a successful installation?
Use memorph --help to check that the executable starts. Then run memorph list; an empty or populated session list is still a useful result because it proves that the CLI can start and read its session store. If Windows says the command is unknown, follow the PATH diagnosis below instead of repeatedly installing over the same copy.

Why does Windows say “memorph is not recognized”?
This message means the shell cannot find a matching executable through PATH. It does not by itself show that memorph failed to install.
- Confirm that the install command completed. Re-run the command for the manager you selected and look for an error before the prompt returned.
- Start a new shell. Global npm, uv and Python executable directories may be added or changed after the original terminal was opened.
- Ask Windows which executable it can see. In Command Prompt run
where memorph. In PowerShell runGet-Command memorph. No result means the current PATH does not include the installation directory. - Inspect the package manager’s executable directory. npm global binaries, uv tool shims and Python Scripts directories can be different. Find the directory reported by your manager and add that directory to the user PATH, then open another terminal.
- Avoid mixed installations. If more than one manager installed memorph, remove the stale copy or put the intended executable directory first in PATH. Otherwise Windows may launch an older version while you troubleshoot a newer one.
- Test directly only as a diagnostic. If you locate
memorph.exe, run it by its full path once. A successful direct launch confirms a PATH problem; a failure there points to architecture, missing dependencies or a blocked file.
Do not add a random folder to PATH. The directory must contain the executable or the manager’s shim that invokes it, and every PATH change requires a new shell to take effect.

How do I fix Python-version or pip errors?
The PyPI package requires Python 3.10 or newer. An older interpreter can produce an installation refusal, dependency-resolution error or a command that points to the wrong Python installation.
- Run
python --versionandpy --version. Windows can have several Python interpreters, so check both commands. - If the reported version is below 3.10, install a current 64-bit Python release from the official Python distribution channel, then open a new terminal.
- Use the interpreter explicitly:
py -m pip install memorph. This ties pip to the Python launcher you just checked instead of a different pip on PATH. - If dependency state is messy, create a new environment with
py -m venv .venv, activate it, update pip inside that environment and retry the install. - After installation, run
where memorphandpython -m pip show memorphto make sure the executable and package belong to the same environment.
If pip reports that no compatible distribution exists even with Python 3.10 or newer, check the machine architecture and the package version being selected. The native Windows artifact described by the project is x64, not ARM64.

Could architecture or a desktop installer be the reason memorph will not launch?
Architecture mismatch
On an ARM64 Windows computer, the dispatcher may not find a matching native package because the manifest lists Windows x64 MSVC and does not list ARM64. Reinstalling the same package repeatedly will not create an ARM64 build. Confirm the system type first and look at the release notes for a newly published compatible artifact before trying workarounds.
Desktop installer availability
The repository contains a Windows NSIS desktop target, but the project documentation says the currently built desktop package was a macOS DMG and that broader desktop support would be added gradually. Treat Windows desktop installer availability as release-dependent. Unless a release page explicitly provides a matching Windows installer, use the documented CLI/package route instead of downloading an old or unofficial installer.
How do I list, switch and migrate sessions?
First establish that the CLI works, then identify the exact source session and provider. The command semantics in the project documentation separate discovery from switching, which helps prevent a valid session from appearing to be lost.
List the source sessions
Run memorph list. Record the session ID, title, directory and provider shown for the session you want to move. Search by directory, title or provider when the list is large.

Switch to an existing session
Use memorph switch with the provider and session ID required by the command’s help output. Select the provider that actually owns the session, such as Claude, Codex or OpenCode; a correct ID under the wrong provider can produce no visible result.
Export and import when a direct switch is not enough
The CLI also documents memorph export and memorph import. Use memorph --help, memorph export --help and memorph import --help to see the arguments for your installed version rather than copying syntax from a different release. Check the target agent, workspace directory and file permissions before importing.
Rename or remove carefully
Renaming improves searchability without changing the provider or session identity. Removing a session is destructive to your local session catalog, so verify the ID and export anything you may need before using the removal command.
Why does memorph run but a session does not appear?
A running CLI with a missing session usually indicates selection or location, not a broken executable.

- Confirm the workspace or directory associated with the session. Searching from a different project location can make the expected entry hard to find.

- Check read and write permissions on the source and destination locations. A restricted directory can allow listing while preventing an import from completing.
- After an import or switch, run
memorph listagain and search by title, directory and provider rather than relying on a default view.
What should I do if Defender or SmartScreen warns about memorph?
Pause execution and verify the exact file. A warning can reflect low reputation for an uncommon developer tool, a mismatched download or a genuinely suspicious copy.
- Cancel the launch and note the file path and filename.
- Obtain the package again from the official repository or PyPI rather than a third-party mirror.
- Compare the file’s SHA-256 value with the published hash for the same release file.
- Check the 0.1.32 Sigstore provenance when that is the version you downloaded, making sure the attestation corresponds to the same artifact.
- Run a Microsoft Defender scan and review the detection details. Do not add an exclusion simply to make the warning disappear.
- Only allow the file after the source, hash and provenance agree. If they do not, delete it and obtain a clean copy.

The native Windows target is x64/AMD64 for the package dispatcher regardless of which manager you use. A desktop installer is a separate, release-dependent path and should not be treated as equivalent to the documented package installation.
