mouclasssyswclsqm.exe has no verified public identity. Searches found no authoritative Microsoft record, vendor documentation, exact-match reputation result, or confirmed hash for that precise filename. The name appears to combine mouclass.sys, a Windows mouse-class driver name, with wclsqm.dll, a DLL filename mentioned in third-party troubleshooting. That resemblance is only a naming clue, not proof that the executable is a Windows file or that it is malware.
Treat the file as untrusted until you check its complete path, digital signature, hash, parent process, startup persistence, and behavior. Do not download a replacement DLL or delete a genuine mouse driver on the basis of a filename alone. The workflow below separates possible malware from a damaged application or Windows installation.

What is mouclasssyswclsqm.exe?
No reliable source identifies mouclasssyswclsqm.exe as a legitimate Windows component. The exact quoted filename produced no public result that establishes a publisher, purpose, prevalence, or safe hash. A name that looks technical or Microsoft-like is not authentication.
The string seems to join two other names. mouclass.sys is associated with Windows mouse input, while wclsqm.dll appears in public DLL inventories and troubleshooting discussions. An attacker, an installer, or a damaged program could create a similarly constructed name. Without the full path and file metadata, it is impossible to tell whether you are seeing a typo, an application-specific helper, a renamed file, or an unwanted executable.

What is mouclass.sys?
ReviverSoft describes mouclass.sys as a Microsoft Windows mouse-class driver and gives the usual location as C:WindowsSystem32Driversmouclass.sys. Removing or disabling a genuine copy can stop mouse input. File.info warns that malware can use the same filename, so the name and icon cannot prove legitimacy.
A GridinSoft ThreatInfo record lists one sample detected as Rootkit.Alureon, with Microsoft publisher metadata, MD5 35ac8fd90e70f2e54cb4bfb21b4e1bf1, and an analysis dated 2026-10-11. That verdict applies only to that hash. It does not mean every file named mouclass.sys, or the unrelated-looking mouclasssyswclsqm.exe, is infected.

TechYorker describes wclsqm.dll as a Windows Class Library filename found in public inventories, while noting that a filename alone cannot authenticate a copy or prove that it belongs on every Windows installation. A load error can result from a missing dependency, an incompatible or corrupted binary, or an unexpected loader path. The safe first move is to identify the application requesting the DLL, then repair Windows or reinstall that application from its official installer.

Is mouclasssyswclsqm.exe safe?
Its safety is unresolved, not confirmed. Until verification shows an expected location, a valid signature, and behavior consistent with the program that installed it, do not run it, whitelist it, or assume that a security warning is a false positive.
| Evidence | What it can tell you | What it cannot prove |
|---|---|---|
| Complete file path | Whether the file sits in a normal Windows or application directory, or in a user-writable temporary or startup location | That a file is safe merely because its directory name looks familiar |
| Digital signature | The signer named in the file’s signature and whether Windows reports the signature as valid | That a signed file is harmless in every context, or that an unsigned file is automatically malware |
| Cryptographic hash | Whether this exact binary matches a reputation record or a security product’s detection | That a different copy with the same filename has the same contents |
| Parent process and persistence | Which program launched it and whether a Run key, scheduled task, service, or dropped executable keeps it starting | The full scope of a compromise without a complete investigation |
| Security-scan result | The detection name, hash, and other indicators that support can investigate | That an unresolved filename should be labelled as a particular malware family |
Microsoft documents malware that drops executable copies and creates persistence entries. Microsoft also describes Moudoor as a backdoor family that can steal sensitive data, permit unauthorized control, and download or execute files. Those descriptions explain why persistence and behavior matter; they are not evidence that this filename is Moudoor.
How do I verify the file before removing it?
Collect evidence first. A deletion made before you record the path, hash, and detection can destroy information needed for recovery or incident response.

- Open the location. In Task Manager, right-click the process and choose Open file location. If the name came from a security alert, use the alert’s location. Record the complete path, drive letter, filename, and whether the file is currently running.
- Inspect properties. Right-click the file, choose Properties, and review Digital Signatures, signer, creation and modification times, file description, product name, and version. A Microsoft-looking icon or wording is not enough; the signature must be present and valid for the file you examined.
- Calculate a hash. In PowerShell, run
Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 "C:fullpathmouclasssyswclsqm.exe", replacing the path with the recorded one. Preserve the resulting SHA-256 value with the alert details. Compare it with a reputable reputation service or with the hash shown by your security product, while considering the privacy risk before uploading a sensitive file to a public service. - Identify what launched it. Note the parent process in Task Manager or your security product. Check Settings > Apps > Startup, Task Scheduler, and the Services console for entries that point to the same path. Microsoft specifically documents Run-key persistence, dropped executables, and unauthorized control as investigation clues.
- Record network activity. If the process is making connections, preserve the destination, time, and security-alert details rather than interacting with the process. A connection by itself does not establish maliciousness, but it is useful evidence for support.
- Scan the system. Run a full Microsoft Defender scan or another reputable security product. Keep the exact detection name, affected path, and hash. Do not rename the file and do not add an exclusion while its identity is unresolved.
What should I do if compromise is suspected?
Containment takes priority over troubleshooting when there are signs of data theft, unauthorized control, repeated persistence, or a confirmed malicious detection.
- Disconnect the device. Microsoft’s suspicious-file guidance says to immediately disconnect an infected device from all networks, including wired, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, to halt data theft. Unplug Ethernet and disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Do not use the machine for online banking or password changes while it may be controlled.
- Preserve evidence. Keep the alert, file path, SHA-256 hash, parent process, startup entry, and timestamps. Avoid repeatedly launching or deleting the file, because those actions can change evidence.
- Run security scans as directed. Use a full scan and, when your security product offers it, an offline or pre-boot scan. Follow the product’s quarantine or removal instructions and retain the detection name for support.
- Repair altered Windows files. After containment, open an elevated Command Prompt and run
sfc /scannow. If Windows reports component-store problems, use the supported DISM repair command for your edition, then run SFC again. A known-good backup or System Restore can restore changed settings when the restore point predates the incident. - Change credentials safely. From a separate, known-clean device, change passwords for accounts used on the affected computer and enable multifactor authentication where available. Prioritize email, work, financial, and administrator accounts.
- Escalate when appropriate. A managed or work computer should be isolated and handed to the organization’s security team. Escalate to incident-response or security support if detections return, persistence reappears, sensitive data may have been accessed, or you cannot establish what launched the file.
How do I remove mouclasssyswclsqm.exe?
Removal depends on what verification shows. There is no safe universal command to delete an unidentified executable.
If a security product confirms malware
Use the product’s quarantine or removal action after disconnecting the computer and preserving the detection details. Reboot only when the product requests it, then scan again. Check for the same path in startup entries, scheduled tasks, and services; removing only the visible copy may leave persistence behind. If the system remains unstable or detections return, restore from a known-good backup or use Windows recovery rather than repeatedly deleting files.

If it belongs to a legitimate application
Do not delete the executable manually. Uninstall or repair the owning application through Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on older Windows), then reinstall it from the publisher’s official installer. Verify the replacement file’s path and signature before allowing it to run.
If no owner can be established
Keep the file isolated or quarantined by your security product and seek support with the path, signature details, hash, parent process, and alert text. A filename with no public identity is not enough evidence for either a clean verdict or a safe manual deletion.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do I fix a wclsqm.dll or mouclasssyswclsqm.exe error?
Use the scope of the failure to choose a repair path. One application failing points toward that application; several applications or Windows startup failing points toward system files, dependencies, or compromise.

Only one application displays the error
- Write down the complete error message and the program name.
- Check which process requested
wclsqm.dllin the alert or application log. - Repair the application from Settings > Apps > Installed apps > [application] > Advanced options > Repair when that option exists.
- If repair does not work, uninstall and reinstall the application from its official source. Do not download a standalone DLL from a random DLL website.
- Restart and test the application before changing unrelated drivers or deleting files from Windows folders.
Several programs fail or Windows itself is affected
- Run
sfc /scannowfrom an elevated Command Prompt and let it complete. - If SFC reports that it could not repair files, use the supported DISM component-store repair for the installed Windows edition, then run SFC again.
- Use System Restore if a restore point exists from before the errors and you understand which applications and settings will be rolled back.
- Run a full security scan, because widespread failures combined with an unknown executable can indicate tampering rather than a simple missing DLL.
- If repair tools fail or Windows cannot start normally, use Windows recovery support or a repair installation. Back up important user data first when the system is stable enough to do so.
Can I delete mouclass.sys because an alert mentions it?
No. A genuine mouclass.sys is part of Windows mouse input, and removing or disabling it can stop the mouse from working. First compare the complete path, signature, and hash with the detection details. If the file is the expected driver in C:WindowsSystem32Driversmouclass.sys, repair Windows or follow the security product’s instructions rather than deleting it. If a different file merely uses that name, handle it as an unidentified executable and investigate its owner.
Which repair path fits my situation?
Choose the least destructive path that matches the evidence. Malware containment and application repair are different jobs, and treating one as the other can either leave an attacker in place or damage Windows.
| Situation | First priority | Data impact | When to escalate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Confirmed malicious detection or active suspicious behavior | Disconnect networks, preserve indicators, scan, and quarantine | Quarantine changes the affected file; recovery may roll back settings | Repeated detections, possible data theft, or a managed device |
| One application reports a DLL load failure | Identify the caller, repair, or reinstall that application | Application repair or reinstall can reset its settings | The official installer cannot restore the dependency |
| Several applications or Windows fail | SFC, DISM where appropriate, System Restore, and security scanning | System Restore and recovery can remove recent applications or settings | Repair tools cannot complete or Windows will not boot |
| Mouse stops working after a driver alert | Verify whether the expected Windows driver was altered; use Windows repair | Driver repair can temporarily affect input devices | The driver hash is detected or changes return after repair |
What mistakes should I avoid?
- Do not trust the name. Technical words, Microsoft references, and familiar icons can be copied.
- Do not download a replacement DLL first. A random copy may be incompatible, tampered with, or unrelated to the application that requested it.
- Do not delete a system driver without verification. A genuine mouse-class driver is required for normal mouse operation.
- Do not confuse one malware sample with every similarly named file. The Rootkit.Alureon result cited above is tied to one specific MD5 hash.
- Do not change passwords on a possibly controlled computer. Use a separate clean device after containment.
- Do not suppress alerts before collecting evidence. Exclusions can hide persistence and make support harder.
- Do not assume a successful reboot means the issue is resolved. Persistence, damaged system files, or a missing application dependency may remain.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I upload mouclasssyswclsqm.exe to a public scanner?
Only after considering confidentiality and organizational policy. A public submission can expose proprietary code, personal data, or evidence from a business system; your security product’s local detection details may be safer to share with support.
What information should I give technical support?
Send the exact alert wording, complete path, SHA-256 hash, signer status, parent process, startup or scheduled-task entry, and the time the problem began. Include whether the computer was disconnected and which scans or repairs have already completed.
Can a Windows update create this filename?
There is no authoritative record tying this exact filename to a Windows update. Verify the installer or update process that created it instead of assuming that a recent update makes the executable legitimate.
Why did the error return after reinstalling the application?
A returning error can indicate an unresolved Windows component problem, a missing dependency outside the application, or persistence that recreated the file. Recheck the caller and startup entries, run system-file and security checks, and preserve the new hash for comparison.
