ninjarmmagent.exe is the Windows executable for the NinjaOne (formerly NinjaRMM) endpoint-management agent. On an authorized installation, it lets an organization monitor and manage the computer, apply policies and patches, run scripts, and report status. The normal program location is under C:Program Files (x86)<Name of your MSI installer>, while logs, policy data, scripts and JSON output are normally stored in C:ProgramDataNinjaRMMAgent.
The filename alone does not prove that a copy is safe. Confirm its path, Windows digital signature and publisher, and whether your employer, school or managed-service provider actually uses NinjaOne. Is ninjarmmagent.exe safe?
It is normally safe when it was installed by an organization that is authorized to manage the computer and the executable is signed by the expected publisher. Treat it as untrusted until the path, signature, management context and behavior agree.
Check the executable path
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Find the NinjaOne or NinjaRMMAgent process, right-click it and choose Open file location.
- Compare the folder with
C:Program Files (x86)<Name of your MSI installer>. A copy in a user profile, a temporary folder or a randomly named directory needs investigation.

Check the Windows signature and publisher
- Right-click the executable and select Properties.
- Open Digital Signatures and inspect the signer shown by Windows.
- Use Details to confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid, then compare the publisher with the NinjaOne installation you were authorized to receive.
There is no single published hash or certificate thumbprint that applies to every agent version, so a fixed hash cannot be used as a universal test.
Check who manages the computer
Ask your employer, school, IT department or managed-service provider whether the device is enrolled in NinjaOne. If nobody authorized the installation, disconnect the computer from sensitive networks and have a security or systems administrator investigate before stopping services or deleting files. Do not rely on the filename alone.
Check network behavior
The agent normally reports to NinjaOne services over outbound TCP port 443. The organization’s firewall, DNS policy and URL allow-list therefore affect whether the service can connect. Traffic that does not match the organization’s documented NinjaOne endpoints, or a file whose signer and location do not match, warrants investigation.
Why is NinjaRMMAgent using CPU or network bandwidth?
Some CPU, disk and network activity is expected because the agent evaluates management policies, handles patching, runs authorized scripts and reports status. The available documentation does not establish a normal percentage or a failure-rate benchmark, so a number by itself cannot distinguish a problem from routine work.

When activity is probably a connectivity problem
If the device appears offline in the management console, first check the service status, recent agent logs and outbound TCP 443 access. A blocked firewall rule, DNS failure or incomplete URL allow-list can make the agent retry communication and leave it apparently busy.
When activity points to a proxy issue
On a proxy-controlled network, an incorrect host, port or credential can prevent reporting. Review the organization’s documented proxy configuration, correct it using the supported method, restart the service and remove stale settings if the device was moved to a direct connection.
When to escalate
Escalate to the managing administrator when high activity continues after connectivity and proxy settings are correct, when logs show repeated errors, or when the process is outside the expected installation path. Do not kill the process repeatedly or replace it with an untrusted download; the management team should redeploy the current package if the installation is damaged.
How do I fix a NinjaRMMAgent service that will not start or shows the device offline?

- Review recent files in
C:ProgramDataNinjaRMMAgent. Look for timestamps and messages that coincide with the outage; preserve the relevant logs before clearing or reinstalling anything. - Confirm that outbound TCP 443 is permitted and that the organization’s required NinjaOne URLs are allowed through the firewall, DNS filter or web gateway.

How do I fix “Uninstalling the program is disabled”?
NinjaOne can prevent local Windows uninstallation. When that control is active, Windows may display “Uninstalling the program is disabled,” and changing the policy can take about 10 minutes to reach the endpoint.
- Contact the organization or managed-service provider that owns the NinjaOne account and confirm that removal is authorized.
- Have an administrator open the NinjaOne console and go to Administration > General > Settings > Agent installer.
- Disable the organization’s uninstall-prevention setting through the authorized workflow.
- Allow time for the policy change to reach the device, then retry the normal Windows uninstall or the vendor’s approved removal procedure.
If the computer is still managed or support is required, do not bypass this control merely because the entry is inconvenient. The setting exists to prevent an endpoint from disappearing from the management console.
What should I do when Add/Remove Programs fails?
Use the agent’s own uninstaller from an elevated command prompt when the normal Windows entry is damaged. Replace the folder placeholder with the actual directory shown in the service properties or Task Manager.

Check for leftovers
After the uninstaller finishes, inspect the installation directory and C:ProgramDataNinjaRMMAgent for remaining files. Also confirm in Services that NinjaRMMAgent is gone or stopped and that the device has been deauthorized in the NinjaOne console when appropriate.
