odin3-v3.10.6.exe is an old Windows build of Samsung’s Odin Downloader, a service utility used to send compatible firmware images to Galaxy phones and tablets. It is not a normal Windows component, and the filename alone does not establish that a copy is genuine or safe. Is odin3-v3.10.6.exe safe?
Do not decide from the filename, icon, publisher text or the fact that the program opens. Samsung has not maintained a public consumer download page for Odin; copies available online are hosted by third parties. A copy can therefore be genuine, modified, bundled with unwanted software or simply mislabeled.
ThreatInfo recorded two different files named Odin3-v3.10.6.exe as Trojan.Gen on August 23, 2021. The records are file-specific, not proof that every Odin build is malicious:

A generic detection can be a false positive, but it is still a reason to stop and verify the exact file. Do not weaken SmartScreen, disable antivirus protection or add an exception merely because Odin is needed for a repair. If the source is unknown or a current scan detects the file, delete it and obtain a known-good package instead.
How can I verify an Odin ZIP before running it?
Verification is safest while the original archive is still intact. Keep the ZIP and executable together until you have recorded enough information to reproduce your decision.
- Record provenance. Write down the complete download address, the archive’s file size, the date downloaded and whether Windows shows a digital signature. A forum post or filename is not provenance by itself.
- Extract to a temporary folder. Do not run an installer bundled with the archive. A small ZIP containing the executable and the support files it needs is less risky than a password-protected archive, a crack, or a “driver fix” bundle.
- Calculate SHA-256 in PowerShell. Open PowerShell, change to the folder containing the executable, and run:

Compare the resulting hash with a checksum published by a source you trust. The two MD5 values recorded by ThreatInfo demonstrate why a filename match is not enough. - Scan both layers. Scan the ZIP before extraction and the extracted executable with Microsoft Defender or another current antivirus engine. A clean result is evidence about that scan and that file; it is not a guarantee that every copy with the same name is safe.
- Inspect the Windows attachment mark. If the file came from another computer, Windows may label it as an Internet download. Microsoft Support advises unblocking only files from trusted sources. In File Explorer, right-click the file, choose Properties, inspect the General tab and use Unblock only after the source, hash and scan checks are satisfactory.
- Check the signature without trusting it blindly. In the file’s Properties dialog, look for a Digital Signatures tab. An absent or unverifiable signature is a reason for additional scrutiny; a displayed publisher name can also be forged or attached to a repacked file.
- Replace doubtful files. If the archive is password-protected, contains unsolicited installers, triggers a detection or came from an untraceable source, do not try to “clean” it by disabling protections. Delete it and locate a package whose provenance and checksum can be checked.
What should I check before troubleshooting Odin?
Separate a Windows launch problem from a phone-connection problem. The following checks reduce the chance of turning a reversible setup issue into a failed flash.
- Confirm the exact Galaxy model number, not just the product family. Regional variants can require different firmware.
- Confirm the firmware’s bootloader generation and region requirements before selecting BL, AP, CP or CSC files.
- Back up photos, messages, authentication data and any other files that are not already synchronized. Some CSC choices and failed repairs can result in data loss.
- Use a direct USB connection, not a hub, and close other phone-management or synchronization programs that might hold the port.
- Keep Windows security protections enabled. Installing an official driver or replacing a cable is reversible; flashing firmware or disabling a security policy is not a routine first step.
Why is my phone not detected in Odin or why is there no ID:COM?
No ID:COM usually means Windows has not established the correct USB connection, the phone is not in the required download mode, or another component is interfering. Work through these checks in order.

1. Install Samsung’s official Windows USB driver
Samsung’s developer page lists Samsung Android USB Driver for Windows version 1.9.5.0, dated May 6, 2026. Install that official package, restart Windows if requested, then reconnect the phone. Avoid driver bundles that also install unrelated utilities.
2. Re-enter the model-specific download mode
The key combination and confirmation screen vary by Galaxy model. Follow the procedure for that exact model and verify that the phone is displaying its download-mode screen before starting Odin. A normal lock screen, recovery screen or powered-off phone will not produce a usable ID:COM connection.
3. Change the physical connection
Samsung support identifies a bad cable, a bad USB port, and missing Smart Switch or Windows Media Player components as possible causes of recognition failures. Try a known-good Samsung-compatible data cable, a different port and, on a desktop, a rear motherboard port rather than a front-panel port. Connect directly without a USB hub.
4. Inspect Device Manager
Open Device Manager and look for an unknown device or a Samsung USB device with a warning icon while the phone is connected. If a stale or failed entry is present, remove it only when you understand which device you are changing; then disconnect, restart if necessary, reinstall the official driver and reconnect.

If Windows repeatedly connects and disconnects the device, the fault may be the cable, phone socket or USB controller rather than Odin. Test the same cable and port with another known-good data device, and test the phone with another known-good computer if available. Stop before flashing if the connection is unstable.
How do I fix a driver-blocked or Code Integrity error?
Windows can block kernel drivers that do not meet its signing requirements. Do not disable driver protections to make an unverified Odin package run.

- Go to Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > CodeIntegrity > Operational.
- Look for events recorded when the Samsung device was connected or when the driver failed to load.
- Note the driver filename and publisher, then obtain a current signed version from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and reconnect the phone after the replacement driver is installed.
If Code Integrity reports a different third-party driver, remove or update that driver rather than assuming Odin itself is the cause. A blocked driver and a malicious executable are separate problems and require separate verification.
What should I do when Windows says “Windows protected your PC”?
A SmartScreen warning for an unknown publisher means Windows cannot establish sufficient reputation or provenance; it is not an instruction to click Run anyway. Cancel the launch and repeat the source, hash and antivirus checks.

When the file is confirmed as trusted, right-click it, choose Properties, review the General tab and use the Unblock control if Windows has marked it as downloaded from another computer. Microsoft’s guidance is to unblock only trusted files. If the warning remains, use a replacement package rather than weakening SmartScreen or antivirus settings.
Why does Odin start but the firmware flash fail?
A launch proves only that Windows can execute the program; it does not prove that the selected firmware is compatible. Stop after a failure and verify the variables below instead of repeatedly retrying random files.
Verify the device identity
Read the model number from the phone’s download-mode screen or its documentation. Do not substitute a visually similar Galaxy model or a carrier variant.
Verify bootloader generation and region
Firmware packages carry model, region and bootloader-generation constraints. A package with an older bootloader may be rejected, while an incompatible package can create a boot failure. Use the build information shown for the device and select a package intended for that exact combination.

Use the intended Odin slots
BL, AP, CP and CSC files are not interchangeable. PIT and repartition-related options can alter the device’s partition layout and carry substantially greater risk. Do not select repartition options unless the model-specific service instructions explicitly require them.
Check Samsung’s Auto Blocker
Samsung’s Auto Blocker can block USB commands or unofficial software updates on supported devices. If it is active, follow Samsung’s device-specific guidance and understand the security trade-off before changing it. Do not turn it off simply to bypass an unexplained failure.
Stop when the connection is unstable
A loose cable, damaged port or USB hub can interrupt a transfer. Replace the cable, change the port and reinstall the official driver before attempting another flash. Repeated attempts with a wrong package or unreliable connection can make recovery harder.
