olrsubmission.exe is an executable associated with CyberLink’s OLReg MFC Application, commonly installed with PowerDirector, CyberLink Media Suite, or YouCam. It is not a core Windows file. A copy in a normal CyberLink folder with a valid CyberLink signature can be legitimate, but the filename alone cannot establish safety. Check the complete path, parent product, digital signature, version, SHA-256 hash, and a current security scan before you run, delete, or replace it. The repair is usually to repair or reinstall the CyberLink application that owns the file, not to download a loose copy of the EXE.

What is olrsubmission.exe?

olrsubmission.exe is recorded as an OLReg MFC Application component developed by CyberLink. File records associate it with CyberLink Media Suite, PowerDirector, and YouCam installations. The internal name is reported as OLReg, and the original filename is reported as OLReg.EXE. It is a Win32 executable, not a standard Windows component such as a system service or a file required by the Windows shell.

One database record describes version 9.5.0.0402, a size of about 317 kB, and a modification date of 2020-01-17. Those values describe a recorded sample; an installed copy can have a different version, size, or date after an update. A commonly reported location is:

C:Program FilesCyberLinkPowerDirectorOLRSubmissionOLRSubmission.exe

The folder and the application that installed the file matter more than the spelling of the filename. A copy in a CyberLink program directory is consistent with the known software relationship. A copy in C:Users<name>AppDataLocalTemp, a downloads folder, a recycle-bin subfolder, or another user-writable location deserves investigation because those locations do not match the recorded installation pattern.

Is olrsubmission.exe safe?

Safety is conditional on the specific copy on your computer. A CyberLink digital signature and an expected installation path support legitimacy, but neither the filename nor the publisher field by itself proves that the file has not been replaced or modified.

Check Evidence that supports a legitimate copy Warning sign
Parent software PowerDirector, Media Suite, YouCam, or another CyberLink product is installed and the file is inside that product’s folder. No CyberLink software is installed, or the file is unrelated to the folder in which it appears.
Full path A protected path below C:Program FilesCyberLink or the product’s documented installation directory. Temporary, downloads, desktop, roaming-profile, or otherwise user-writable location.
Signature Windows reports a valid signature from CyberLink on the file’s Digital Signatures tab. No signature, an invalid certificate, an unexpected signer, or a certificate that cannot be built to a trusted root.
Identity Product name OLReg Application, internal name OLReg, and an original filename of OLReg.EXE are consistent with the file records. Metadata is blank, badly misspelled, or describes an unrelated product.
Hash and scan The SHA-256 hash matches a trusted record for the same product and version, and current security software reports no detection. The hash is unknown or associated with a threat, or a current scan detects the file.

A FreeFixer page reports that 43 antivirus programs detected nothing for its sampled OLRSubmission.exe; that is a FreeFixer/VirusTotal report accessed in 2026, and the publication year of the sample is not stated. It applies only to that exact sample and the time of the scan. A separate ThreatInfo record labels one CyberLink-signed hash as a “General Threat.” The conflicting records are why a publisher name alone is not enough: verify the hash and provenance of your own file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to inspect the file in Windows

  1. Open File Explorer, right-click OLRSubmission.exe, and choose Properties.
  2. On General, copy the full location shown under Location. On Details, record Product name, File description, Original filename, Product version, and Copyright.
  3. Open Digital Signatures, select the signer, choose Details, and confirm that Windows says the digital signature is valid. Open View Certificate to check the certificate subject, issuer, and validity dates.
  4. In an elevated PowerShell window, calculate the file’s hash. Replace the path with the one you copied:
Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 'C:Program FilesCyberLinkPowerDirectorOLRSubmissionOLRSubmission.exe'

Record the resulting hash exactly. Compare it only with a trusted record for the same CyberLink product and version; a hash from a different release is not a useful match.

Can I delete olrsubmission.exe?

Do not delete it simply because the name looks unfamiliar. If PowerDirector, Media Suite, or YouCam still uses the file, manual deletion can make that application fail or leave an incomplete installation. If a security product identifies the file as malicious, follow the product’s quarantine or removal action rather than copying a replacement from a file-download site.

Remove a known orphan safely

  1. In Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. In Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features. On older systems, use Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  2. Find the CyberLink product whose folder contains the file. Export or back up projects and custom presets before changing the installation.
  3. Use the product’s own uninstaller. Restart Windows and check whether the folder remains.
  4. If the product has been removed and the remaining file is in its old folder, scan that file first. You can rename it to OLRSubmission.exe.old, restart, and monitor for a few days before deleting the renamed copy. Renaming provides a recovery path if another installed component still needs it.

Never replace a missing file by downloading an isolated EXE. CyberLink installers normally deploy the matching files and registry entries together; a file from another version can cause further errors or destabilize the application.

Why am I getting an OLRSubmission.exe application error?

Messages such as “OLRSubmission.exe has encountered a problem,” “OLReg MFC Application has stopped working,” initialization failures, missing-file errors, and “OLRSubmission.exe is not a valid Win32 application” do not identify one cause. They can follow a damaged or incomplete CyberLink installation, an update that replaced only part of the product, a deleted or quarantined file, a version mismatch, a conflict with another program, or malware tampering.

Damaged or incomplete CyberLink installation

An interrupted installer, disk error, failed update, or partial uninstall can leave the executable present but leave its supporting libraries or registry data missing. If the error began immediately after installing or updating PowerDirector, Media Suite, or YouCam, treat the parent installation as the primary suspect.

Wrong file or version

A copied executable from another computer or an older product release may start and then fail when it loads a different set of DLLs. The “not a valid Win32 application” message can also indicate a truncated download, a non-Windows file renamed with an .exe extension, or corruption on disk.

Security software or malware interference

Security software can quarantine a file, block a child process, or leave an incomplete restore. Conversely, malware can replace a legitimate file or inject into a trusted process. Check the security product’s protection history and scan the exact file before restoring or launching it.

Program and profile conflicts

Background utilities, overlays, add-ins, damaged user profiles, and other startup programs can make a CyberLink component crash even when the file itself is genuine. Reproducing the problem after a clean restart helps distinguish an application defect from a conflict.

How do I fix olrsubmission.exe errors?

Work through the checks in order. Stop when the error is resolved, but keep the path, version, hash, and exact message if you need to contact support.

1. Identify the owning CyberLink product

  1. Right-click the error’s file, choose Open file location if that option is available, and copy the complete path.
  2. Match the folder with the installed product shown in Settings > Apps > Installed apps or Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  3. If no CyberLink product is installed, do not assume the file is legitimate. Preserve the path and continue with the scan and signature checks below.

2. Scan before attempting a repair

Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options and run a Full scan. For a faster first check, right-click the file in File Explorer and choose the Microsoft Defender scan command if it is available. Review Protection history for quarantine, blocked-process, or remediation events.

If the result is inconclusive, submit the file through Microsoft’s security-analysis or sample-submission channel. Do not upload confidential project files or restore a quarantined executable merely because one scanner reports no detection.

3. Repair or reinstall the parent application

Use the CyberLink installer or support channel for the exact product and edition you own. If the installed-program entry offers Modify, Repair, or Change, run that option first. Otherwise uninstall the affected CyberLink product, restart Windows, and install it again from the official installer. Select the same language and edition where possible, and apply the product’s updates after installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not copy OLRSubmission.exe from another PC, a DLL/EXE archive, or a random download page. The bundled installer supplies the matching executable, libraries, services, and registration information.

4. Check Windows and disk health when other programs are failing

If only the CyberLink program fails, focus on its repair. If several applications report corrupted files, freeze, or refuse to start, update Windows and check the system drive for errors. You can run Windows’ built-in system-file checker for Windows components from an elevated Command Prompt:

sfc /scannow

SFC does not contain CyberLink’s executable and will not replace a damaged third-party file. Use it only to investigate broader Windows corruption, then repair the CyberLink installation separately. Make sure the system drive has free space and that the drive is not reporting hardware errors.

5. Test for a background conflict

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager and close nonessential overlays, capture tools, tuning utilities, and recently installed background programs.
  2. Restart Windows and reproduce the error before opening unrelated software.
  3. If the crash disappears, re-enable programs one at a time to identify the conflict. Update or remove the conflicting program rather than deleting the CyberLink executable.

6. Apply compatibility settings only when appropriate

For an older CyberLink release that worked on an earlier Windows version, right-click its main shortcut, choose Properties > Compatibility, and use Run compatibility troubleshooter. Avoid forcing compatibility mode on every component; it can create new permission or rendering problems. Test one setting at a time and record what changed.

7. Investigate the “not a valid Win32 application” branch

  • Confirm that the file is actually an executable and not a text, archive, or partial download renamed with .exe.
  • Check its size against the installed product’s records; a zero-byte or unusually small file points to an incomplete installation.
  • Verify the signature and hash again after copying or restoring the file.
  • Run the CyberLink repair or reinstall process instead of trying to register or convert the file manually.

8. Treat Outlook or Office failures as a separate troubleshooting path

OLRSubmission.exe is not an Outlook component. If the same incident also produces Outlook-not-responding or Office failures, Microsoft recommends installing updates, starting classic Outlook with outlook.exe /safe, disabling COM add-ins one at a time, creating a new Outlook profile when necessary, repairing data files with scanpst.exe, and repairing Office. These steps address Outlook or Office conflicts; they do not prove that OLRSubmission.exe belongs to Outlook.

Microsoft lists outdated software, another process, add-ins, oversized mailboxes, redirected AppData, damaged data files, antivirus conflicts, profile corruption, and other program conflicts as possible contributors to Outlook-not-responding errors. Use that branch only when Outlook or Office has its own symptoms.

9. Collect evidence before escalating

Save the full path, CyberLink product and version, file properties, signer and certificate details, SHA-256 hash, exact error text, Windows edition and build, and the security-scan result. Include the time the problem started and whether it followed an install, update, deletion, quarantine event, or malware incident. This information lets CyberLink or Microsoft distinguish a bad installation from a suspicious file without asking you to send an unknown executable.

How can I compare a legitimate copy with a suspicious one?

Use all five comparisons together; no single field is decisive.

What should I do if the file is suspicious?

  1. Disconnect the computer from the network if you observe active malicious behavior, credential theft, unexplained encryption, or repeated security alerts.
  2. Do not launch the file again and do not upload it to an unknown analysis site.
  3. Use your installed security product to quarantine it, or submit it through Microsoft’s official analysis channel. Keep the detection name and timestamp.
  4. Change important passwords from a known-clean device if you have evidence of compromise, and follow your organization’s incident-response policy on a managed PC.
  5. After cleanup, reinstall the affected CyberLink product from its official source and apply Windows and application updates.

If the file is merely in an unexpected location but scans clean, preserve it for analysis instead of deleting it immediately. Its path, creation time, parent process, and hash can explain how it arrived on the computer.

Does the error mean Windows itself is broken?

Usually, no. OLRSubmission.exe belongs to CyberLink’s OLReg component, so a failure limited to PowerDirector, Media Suite, or YouCam generally points to that installation, its dependencies, or a software conflict. Broader Windows corruption becomes more plausible when unrelated applications also fail, system files are missing, updates repeatedly roll back, or the disk reports errors. Separate those cases before applying system-wide repairs.

What is the safest repair decision?

Keep a file that is in the expected CyberLink folder, has a valid CyberLink signature, matches the correct product version, and passes a current scan; repair the parent installation if it crashes. Isolate and investigate a copy with an unexpected path, missing signature, mismatched hash, or security detection. In either case, avoid loose-download replacements, because the executable is only one part of the installed application.

As an optional shortcut after you have checked the file and parent application, Outbyte PC Repair can look for more than 100 common Windows issues, clean temporary and cache files, review selected privacy and vulnerability settings, and keep an app-crash log. It complements antivirus software rather than replacing it; results vary and no tool repairs every crash. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, with a free trial by category for at least two days before a subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does olrsubmission.exe run automatically when Windows starts?

It is normally part of a CyberLink installation rather than a Windows startup requirement. To check, open Task Manager, select Startup apps, and inspect CyberLink entries; also review the CyberLink product’s own settings before disabling anything.

Will deleting olrsubmission.exe improve game performance or frame rate?

There is no established performance benefit from removing this single component. Deleting it can instead break a CyberLink application, so remove the owning program through its uninstaller if you no longer use it.

Can Microsoft Defender repair a missing OLRSubmission.exe file?

Defender can quarantine or remove a detected file, but it does not recreate CyberLink’s complete installation. If the file is missing, use the CyberLink repair or reinstall process for the exact product and edition.

What information should I send CyberLink support about the crash?

Provide the product name and version, Windows edition and build, complete file path, exact error text, event time, signer details, SHA-256 hash, and whether the issue followed an update or security quarantine. Screenshots of the Properties tabs and the installer or protection-history message can help without sending the executable itself.
