- Close the payroll program normally and see whether the process exits.

1. Match the path to software you installed
Compare the path from Task Manager with the installation directory of Paie GX, LGR Paie or Charlemagne Paie. The documented Paie GX and LGR Paie examples are under C:Program Files (x86) in product-specific folders. A different path can still be legitimate after a custom installation, but you should be able to explain who installed it and why.

- Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Select the signature and choose Details to check whether Windows reports that it is valid.
- Compare the signer’s name with the payroll product and installer you obtained.

4. Scan the exact file

How do I scan for a suspicious paie.exe file?
