start10srv.exe (also shown as Start10Srv.exe) is the service program installed by Stardock Start10, a utility that changes the Windows Start menu. It is not a Windows system file. The file is normally legitimate when Start10 was intentionally installed, the executable is inside the Stardock Start10 program folder, and Windows shows a valid Stardock digital signature. Check the file path
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Find the Start10 service or process. Right-click it and choose Open file location. If it is not running, press Win+R, enter
services.msc, locate Stardock Start10 (Start10), open Properties, and note the executable path shown by the service. - Compare the path with the Stardock Start10 directory. A different path is a warning sign, not proof of malware by itself.
Validate the digital signature
- In File Explorer, right-click the executable and choose Properties.
- Open Digital Signatures. Select the signer and choose Details.

Windows 11 compatibility hold
Microsoft documented a Windows 11 safeguard hold for some devices with Start10 installed in KB5007126 (a 2021 support article). The supported remedy was to uninstall Start10 or install a compatible build before upgrading. A hold is a compatibility control, not evidence that start10srv.exe is malware.

What should Steam users do?
Steam editions have a different repair path. Stardock support says to run sassteam.exe from the Start10 installation directory. If that does not repair the service, uninstall and reinstall the game-like application through Steam itself.

Do not delete it merely because it is unfamiliar or because the service stopped. Manual deletion can break Start10 while leaving its service registration and other files behind. If you no longer want Start10, uninstall it through Windows Settings or Programs and Features, then reboot.
