In Classic NES Tetris, Tetris rate (TRT) is the percentage of your cleared lines that came from four-line Tetris clears. Calculate it as (lines cleared by Tetrises ÷ total lines cleared) × 100. If 40 of your 100 cleared lines came from Tetrises, your TRT is 40%.
How is Tetris rate calculated?
Count the lines cleared by Tetrises, divide that number by all lines cleared, then multiply by 100. Count four lines for every Tetris—not one for each Tetris event. The TAUS project defines TRT as “the percentage of lines cleared that were tetrises.”

For example, if you clear 10 Tetrises, those account for 40 lines. If you also clear 60 lines through singles, doubles, or triples, you have cleared 100 lines total: 40 ÷ 100 × 100 = 40% TRT.
What does TRT tell you?
TRT shows how your cleared lines are divided between Tetrises and other line clears. Some stats displays show both an overall rate and a running rate across successive line-clear events, so you can watch how your Tetris production changes during a game. The NESTrisStatsUI documentation describes this display for Classic NES Tetris.

TRT is one statistic, not a complete score or skill rating. TAUS tracks efficiency (EFF) separately: it describes EFF as score per lines while ignoring the level multiplier. Its repository lists clear values of 40 for a single, 50 for a double, 100 for a triple, and 300 for a Tetris. Two games can therefore have the same TRT but different efficiency and final scores.
Is there a good Tetris rate?
The sources defining TRT do not establish a universal target percentage. A meaningful comparison depends on the game version, starting level, rules, and what a player is trying to achieve. Treat a TRT figure as a description of line-clear distribution, rather than a standalone judgment of how well someone played.

Does Tetris rate work the same in every Tetris game?
The detailed stats documentation concerns Classic NES Tetris. Its stat display and conventions should not be assumed to match every other Tetris game. The documentation also distinguishes the original game from modern Tetris titles discussed there: Classic NES Tetris does not use the bag randomization described for those modern games.
TAUS lists other related project-specific statistics: BRN (burn) is lines cleared since the last Tetris; DHT (drought) is pieces since the last line; and TRNS (transition score) is score achieved when leaving the starting level. These labels are not established as standard displays across all Tetris versions.
