There is no single best armor set in Calamity: the right pick depends on your class, progression stage, and whether you want more damage, defense, or a balance. For late-game builds, Auric Tesla is a strong candidate, but Demonshade and Gem Tech also appear among the listed endgame options. The relevant class guide says it was last updated for version 2.1.2 and is not updated for the current mod version, so treat its picks as a starting point and check recommendations for your installed version.
How to choose the best armor for your character
Calamity adds 31 armor sets: eight available before Hardmode, 12 in Hardmode, and 11 after Moon Lord, according to the official armor guide. With that many options across a long progression, “best” only makes sense when you specify your class and where you are in the game.

Compare a set against the needs of your build and the fights ahead:
- Class fit: Many sets have class-specific helmets. Choose the headpiece that matches your class rather than judging the set by a different class’s bonuses.
- Progression: A powerful set is only useful once you can obtain it. Check what bosses or milestones you have cleared and what comes next.
- Offense and defense: The armor progression guide separates offensive, defensive, and overall recommendations by class and stage. The value of defense depends on which enemies you expect to tank; later in progression, offensive bonuses can become more important.
- Sustain and set effects: Consider healing, stealth, revives, and other effects alongside damage and defense. A higher position in progression does not automatically make one set better for every player.
Late-game and endgame options
Auric Tesla: a strong class-specific candidate
Auric Tesla is a craftable post-Moon Lord armor set with a separate headpiece for each class. The post-Moon Lord class setups guide lists it before the Exo Mechs and Supreme Witch, Calamitas, making it a named option for class-specific late-game builds. Its placement and class headpieces make it a useful starting point, not a universal winner.

Demonshade and Gem Tech: alternatives, not automatic upgrades
The same class setups guide lists Demonshade and Gem Tech among endgame options. Demonshade comes after Auric Tesla in progression, but the official wiki’s post-Moon Lord data indicates it lacks some of Auric Tesla’s lifesteal, stealth, and revive benefits. Later availability therefore does not establish that Demonshade is superior; compare the bonuses with your class and preferred risk level.

The official armor progression guide was last updated for version 2.0.1.004. The post-Moon Lord class setups guide reports version 2.1.2 as its last update and warns that it is not updated for the current mod version. Because of those version qualifications, use the listed sets to orient your choice, then verify the current guide entries for your installed version and class.
