The quickest route to a pantheon is to get your Faith total to the prompt threshold as early as your game allows, and to use every early Faith source your civilization, leader, policies and map offer. On Standard speed the commonly cited threshold is 25 Faith. There is no guaranteed fastest turn, because your starting bonuses, leader ability, policy choices, discoveries, nearby religious city-states and game settings all change when that Faith arrives.
How the pantheon prompt works
The Civilization VI 25th Anniversary Online Manual says that once you accumulate enough Faith, you will be prompted to found a pantheon, which it describes as “a precursor to the full-blown Religions founded later.” The prompt is not a choice you make in advance. It appears when your Faith reaches the threshold, and only then do you select a belief from the pantheon options. Open the Religion panel to see how much Faith remains in your current game.
The threshold: 25 Faith on Standard speed
The 25 Faith figure comes from the Civilization Wiki (Fandom), a community-maintained reference. The accessed page does not state a year, and the official manual confirms the prompt mechanic without printing a number. Treat 25 as the Standard-speed value, and read the Religion panel for the real figure if you play on another speed or with altered settings.
| Figure | Value | Qualification | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pantheon prompt | Appears once enough Faith is accumulated | No numeric threshold printed in the manual | Civilization VI 25th Anniversary Online Manual, Religion section |
| Pantheon threshold | 25 Faith | Standard speed only; year not stated on the accessed page | Civilization Wiki (Fandom) |
| Initiation Rites | 50 Faith per Barbarian Outpost cleared | Works only after the pantheon is selected; year not stated on the accessed page | Civilopedia.net |
| Religious Settlements | One Settler when selected | Belief effect as described by Civilopedia.net | Civilopedia.net |
Where early Faith comes from
The official manual lists the categories of Faith sources that matter early. It does not rank them by how many turns they save, so the fastest path depends on which of these your game actually offers.

- EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before.
- ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization's progress through history.
- DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game.
- COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units.
Civilization and leader abilities
Some civilization and leader abilities generate Faith. These are the first thing to check, because they cost nothing to use and are already active when the game starts.
Social policies
Certain social policies add Faith. Compare the policy options you can adopt now with the Faith they add, and weigh that against the other effects of each policy.

- The package includes the Sid Meier’s Civilization VI game, six DLC packs*, the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions, and the full New Frontier Pass content pack.
- Save vs buying DLC packs a la carte. Individual DLC and Expansions may be sold separately. If you already own any Civilization VI standalone content, do not buy this product or you will be double-charged for content.
Religious city-states
Religious city-states can provide Faith through your relationship with them. Whether one is nearby, and whether you can reach it, depends on the map.
Tribal Villages
Clearing Tribal Villages can reward Faith. Their availability depends on the map and on how far your early units can reach them.
Rank #3
Natural Wonders
Natural Wonders are listed among the early Faith sources. Like villages, they depend on what is on your map.
Holy Sites and religious buildings
The manual describes Holy Sites and other religious buildings as natural ways to increase Faith. It does not say that building a Holy Site is always the fastest first move. A Holy Site costs production and placement, so build one only when its timing and buildings fit your wider opening rather than as a reflex.
Rank #4
- The path to victory is the one you determine.
- See the marvels of your empire spread across the map.
- Unlock boosts that speed your civilization's progress through history.
Step-by-step route to the pantheon
- Open the Religion panel and note how much Faith remains before the pantheon prompt.
- List every Faith source you can use right now: your civilization or leader ability, the social policy options open to you, religious city-state relationships, Tribal Villages within reach, and Natural Wonders on your map.
- Prioritise the source that closes the gap soonest, since the manual does not rank sources by speed.
- Consider a Holy Site only if its location and the buildings it requires fit your current plan.
- When the prompt appears, choose a pantheon for its payoff on your map (see below).
Choosing the pantheon once you reach the threshold
The choice of pantheon does not make you reach the threshold faster. It determines what you gain after you have it. The manual notes that the right pantheon depends on your short- and long-term goals for your civilization.
Initiation Rites
Initiation Rites awards 50 Faith for each Barbarian Outpost cleared, according to Civilopedia.net. This is a strong return on Faith if outposts are close enough to clear early. It is a belief you select after reaching the threshold, so it does not generate the Faith needed to select it.

- Build Your Greatest Empire on Nintendo Switch
- This bundle is intended for people new to Civilization VI and contains Civilization VI, six add-on content packs as well as the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions.
Religious Settlements
Religious Settlements gives you a Settler when it is selected, according to Civilopedia.net. It suits a plan built around early expansion.
Terrain and improvement beliefs
Other pantheon beliefs reward particular terrain or improvements. Their value depends on your start. Check the belief’s description in the Civilopedia before you commit, because the effect you need depends on the land you have claimed.
Settings and version differences
- Game speed: the 25 Faith figure applies to Standard speed. Other speeds can change the threshold, so use the Religion panel as the reference.
- Expansions and updates: wiki pages include base-game and expansion-era belief descriptions that may not match your version. Confirm the belief text in the in-game Civilopedia.
- Enabled modes and rules: the accessed sources do not cover every setting, so a game with changed rules may use a different threshold or different Faith sources.
Because starts, settings and versions vary, a single turn number would be misleading. Use the Religion panel as your guide and apply the steps above from the first turns of the game.
