TQCacheCleaner.exe is not a standard Windows component. Public executable metadata associates the 24 kB file with older Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Premiere Pro packages, with a 2019 modification date and Adobe listed as the company and copyright owner. That association makes an Adobe-signed copy in the Adobe installation that launched it plausible, but the filename alone cannot prove that a copy is safe. Verify its complete path, digital signature, hash and relationship to your Adobe software before running, deleting or replacing it. If Premiere still opens, clear its Media Cache from the app. If it will not launch, remove the contents of the configured cache folders, then repair the Adobe installation when necessary. A security alert, an unsigned file or an unexpected location should be treated as a possible impostor rather than as a routine cache problem.

What is TQCacheCleaner.exe?

TQCacheCleaner.exe is a legacy Adobe-associated Win32 executable reported in public file metadata. The listing identifies a file of approximately 24 kB, a 2019 modification timestamp, and Adobe as the company and copyright owner. Older Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Premiere Pro-related packages are associated with the name.

Adobe’s current help documentation explains how Premiere manages Media Cache and how to repair Creative Cloud installations, but the pages reviewed do not document TQCacheCleaner.exe by name. It is therefore more accurate to call it a legacy helper reported by file metadata than a currently documented Windows service or a required Windows component.

Cache-cleaning helpers remove temporary indexes, previews and other generated data. They are not the same thing as your project files or original camera media. Deleting a cache can require Premiere to rebuild data later, but it should not delete source footage when you use the documented cache controls.

Is TQCacheCleaner.exe safe?

Safety depends on the individual file, not on the spelling of the filename. An Adobe-signed copy in an expected Adobe program directory is consistent with a legitimate installation; an unsigned copy in Temp, Public, an unfamiliar AppData folder or a recently created startup location is suspicious. Even a correctly named file can be replaced or copied by unwanted software.

Compare an expected Adobe file with a suspicious copy

Check Expected Adobe-associated copy Suspicious impostor
Path and ownership Inside the Adobe installation that is actually installed, such as the Premiere or Acrobat program tree Temp, Public, a random AppData directory, a download folder or another location unrelated to Adobe
Signer Adobe digital signature validates in the file’s Properties dialog No signature, an invalid signature or a signer that is not Adobe
Hash Matches a trusted copy from the same Adobe installation or installer Does not match, or there is no trusted reference for comparison
Version and date Fits the age and version of the installed Adobe package A newly modified file, an unexplained version or a timestamp that conflicts with the installation
Execution context Appears only when the related Adobe application is working Starts at Windows logon, through an unexplained scheduled task or without Adobe running
Security verdict Defender and other scanners do not flag it Microsoft Defender or another reputable scanner detects it

How to verify the file in Windows

  1. Locate the process. Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc. On the Details tab, find TQCacheCleaner.exe, right-click it and choose Open file location. If it is not running, search only the Adobe installation folders first; avoid launching a copy from a download or temporary folder.
  2. Record its properties. Right-click the file, select Properties, and note the full path, file version, product name and company. Open Digital Signatures, select the signature and choose Details. A valid signature should identify Adobe and state that it is valid; an absent or invalid signature is a reason to stop and investigate.
  3. Calculate a SHA-256 hash. In PowerShell, run Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 "C:pathtoTQCacheCleaner.exe", replacing the path with the exact location. Compare the result with a trusted file from the same Adobe installer or a known-good machine; a matching filename or size is not enough.
  4. Confirm the owner application. Check whether Premiere Pro, Acrobat or Creative Cloud is installed and whether the process appears only when that product performs a cache or maintenance operation. Review Settings > Apps > Startup, Task Manager’s Startup apps tab and Task Scheduler for unexplained entries that launch the executable.
  5. Check recent activity. A copy that appeared after an unsolicited download, a cracked-software installer or an email attachment deserves more suspicion than one installed at the same time as Adobe. Do not run an unknown copy merely to see what it does.

What to do when security software flags it

Let the security alert take priority over the filename. Disconnect from sensitive online activity, quarantine the detected copy through your security product, update Microsoft Defender’s definitions and run a full scan. Microsoft explains that Defender can remove detected threats and that a full scan can help remove remnants. Do not restore the file from quarantine until its origin and signature are established.

Never download a replacement TQCacheCleaner.exe from a random EXE or DLL site. A replacement with the right name can contain different code, carry unwanted software or be incompatible with your Adobe build. Reinstall or repair Adobe from its official installer instead.

What errors can TQCacheCleaner.exe cause?

Third-party file references report several message patterns: “TQCacheCleaner.exe – Bad Image,” “TQCacheCleaner.exe Application Error,” a missing-file or not-valid-Win32 message, failed initialization, and “The file TQCacheCleaner.exe is missing or corrupt.” These are reported patterns, not an Adobe-published error catalog.

Typical underlying causes include a file that was deleted or moved, damaged installation data, an outdated or conflicting Adobe component, an interrupted update, incorrect permissions, or malware altering the executable. The same message can therefore arise from a harmless cache problem or from a suspicious replacement; verify the file before choosing a repair.

How do I fix TQCacheCleaner.exe errors when Premiere opens?

Use Premiere’s own Media Cache controls first. This is the most reversible repair because Premiere recreates cache data when a project needs it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Save your work and close projects you do not need open. To clear everything, close all projects before continuing.
  2. In Premiere on Windows, choose Edit > Preferences > Media Cache.
  3. Select Delete. Choose whether to remove unused cache files or all cache files, then confirm.
  4. Restart Premiere and open a project. The first launch or playback may take longer while previews, indexes or conforming data are rebuilt.

Adobe states that “Deleted cache files are recreated automatically whenever source media requires them.” Its current Media Cache guidance also describes automatic management, including a 90-day age setting and a 10% volume-size threshold; those settings describe cache management, not the identity or safety of TQCacheCleaner.exe. See Adobe’s Media Cache management instructions for the current controls.

Check the cache location before deleting anything

The Media Cache page shows separate locations for Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database. If the drive is nearly full or the location points to a disconnected drive, choose a healthy volume and allow Premiere to rebuild the data. Adobe recommends a fast SSD or NVMe drive, preferably dedicated to Media Cache, when you are choosing storage for demanding projects; faster storage does not verify an executable or remove malware.

How do I fix the error when Premiere will not launch?

When the application cannot open, delete only the contents of the configured cache folders rather than deleting the TQCacheCleaner.exe program file.

  1. Exit Premiere and end any remaining Adobe media or Premiere processes in Task Manager.
  2. Open File Explorer and navigate to the configured Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database folders. Adobe’s default Windows location is C:Users<username>AppDataRoamingAdobeCommon; use your custom location if you changed it.
  3. Delete the contents of those two cache folders. Keep the folders themselves if other Adobe applications use them, and skip any file Windows says is in use until all Adobe processes are closed.
  4. Empty the Recycle Bin after confirming that you removed cache contents, not project files, source media or the Adobe program directory.
  5. Launch Premiere and reopen a project. Cache data should be rebuilt automatically, so expect an initial wait and potentially increased disk activity.

If the folders are absent, search Premiere’s preferences file or the last known Media Cache location rather than deleting unrelated Adobe directories. A missing cache folder by itself does not prove that TQCacheCleaner.exe is malware.

What should I do if the Adobe installation is damaged?

Repair ordinary application problems before using an aggressive cleanup utility. Sign out and back in to Creative Cloud if licensing or update components are involved, restart Windows, and use the Creative Cloud desktop app’s repair, uninstall or reinstall options when available for your edition. Preserve project files, custom presets, plug-ins, fonts and export settings before uninstalling.

When to use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool

Adobe describes its official Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool as “a utility for experienced users to clean up corrupted installations.” Reserve it for a damaged or conflicting installation after normal repair or uninstall attempts fail. Download it only from Adobe, back up relevant folders first, run the Windows executable as administrator, follow the product-selection prompts carefully and reinstall the affected Adobe software afterward.

The Cleaner Tool can remove installation components beyond the cache, so it is less reversible than deleting cache contents. Do not use it to erase a suspicious standalone copy before preserving evidence for a security investigation, and do not substitute a third-party cleaner or registry utility.

Should I delete TQCacheCleaner.exe?

Do not delete it solely because the name is unfamiliar or because a website lists it. First establish the path, signer, hash and Adobe ownership. If those checks show an Adobe-signed file in the correct installation and Premiere or Acrobat is functioning, leave the program file in place and clear cache through Adobe’s controls instead.

Deletion is reasonable only after a repair or uninstall has removed the owning Adobe application, or after security software has quarantined a confirmed malicious copy. If Windows reports that the file is in use, stop the related Adobe processes and use the product’s uninstall or repair process rather than forcing deletion. A missing legitimate file is normally repaired by reinstalling Adobe, never by downloading a similarly named EXE.

How do the repair choices differ?

Repair choice Use it when What changes Reversibility
Premiere’s Media Cache Delete command Premiere opens and the symptom points to cache data Removes selected unused or all cache files; Premiere recreates needed data Highest; source media and projects remain
Manual cache-folder cleanup Premiere cannot launch but the cache location is known Removes contents of Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database folders High; cache is regenerated, but verify the folders before deleting
Adobe repair, uninstall or reinstall Files, updates or dependencies are damaged Replaces application components and may affect preferences, plug-ins or sign-in state Moderate; back up settings and projects first
Official Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool Experienced users face a corrupted installation after ordinary repair fails Cleans selected Creative Cloud installation components before reinstalling Lowest; use backups and follow Adobe’s prompts exactly

How can I confirm the repair worked?

  • Restart Windows and verify that no unexplained TQCacheCleaner.exe startup entry returns.
  • Open Premiere or Acrobat from its normal shortcut, create or open a small test project or document, and watch Task Manager for the process path.
  • Recheck the file’s Properties and Digital Signatures if the executable reappears.
  • Confirm that the Media Cache location is on an available drive with sufficient free space.
  • Run another full security scan if the original copy was flagged, and keep the quarantine record until the investigation is complete.
  • Only after a successful test should you restore custom presets, plug-ins or third-party extensions one at a time; a conflicting extension can recreate application errors.

What mistakes make these errors worse?

  • Trusting the filename: malware can use a familiar Adobe name.
  • Deleting the program instead of the cache: remove cache contents through Premiere or its documented folders, not the Adobe executable directory.
  • Using a DLL or EXE download site: this can introduce an incompatible or unsafe replacement.
  • Running registry cleaners: they can remove entries needed by Adobe without repairing the underlying file.
  • Skipping backups before a deep cleanup: the Cleaner Tool and reinstall process can affect preferences, plug-ins and sign-in state.
  • Ignoring storage problems: a full or disconnected cache drive can cause repeated failures after a successful reinstall.

As an optional shortcut after you have checked the file and completed the appropriate manual steps, Outbyte PC Repair can address many common Windows issues, adjust settings, clean temporary and cache files, check for missing updates and potentially unwanted applications, and provide an app-crash log. It complements antivirus software rather than replacing it; it runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7, offers a free trial by category for at least two days, and results vary, so it cannot repair every crash.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does TQCacheCleaner.exe belong to Windows itself?

No. The available metadata associates the name with older Adobe packages, not with a core Windows component. A Windows installation can function without an Adobe cache helper, although removing a file from an active Adobe installation may create a separate application problem.

Is the 24 kB size enough to prove that my copy is genuine?

No. File size and a 2019 timestamp are metadata clues, not authentication. Compare the complete path, Adobe signature and SHA-256 hash with a trusted installation before deciding what the file is.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does the cache come back after I delete it?

Premiere rebuilds cache files whenever a project needs indexes, previews or other generated data. Seeing new cache files after cleanup is expected and does not by itself indicate that the executable returned or that the cleanup failed.

Can I recover a deleted cache file from the Recycle Bin?

You usually do not need to restore cache contents; Premiere can recreate them. If you accidentally deleted project media or presets, stop using the drive and restore those files from a known backup instead of downloading a replacement executable.
