tradingview-desktop.exe is the executable or process label associated with TradingView Desktop on Windows. The name alone does not prove that a file is genuine or safe. A legitimate installation should come from tradingview.com or an official app store, match the expected TradingView application, and pass a careful path, signature, reputation and malware check. TradingView currently distributes the Windows app as TradingView.appinstaller through Windows App Installer. If the app will not install, crashes, or shows runtime errors, the most reliable order is to verify the package, meet the current Windows requirements, update the app and Windows components, clear the app cache, isolate indicators and check for security-software or network interference.
What is tradingview-desktop.exe?

TradingView does not present tradingview-desktop.exe as a universally documented standalone installer filename. You may nevertheless see that name as an executable or process after installation. Treat it as an identification clue, not as proof of authenticity.
Windows can display a process name independently of how the application was installed. The useful evidence is the file’s actual location, publisher information, digital signature, download source, Windows reputation result and behavior when it runs.

Is tradingview-desktop.exe safe?
A copy obtained from tradingview.com or an official app store is the expected safe distribution route. TradingView’s security guidance says: “Download our mobile and desktop apps only from this website and official app stores.” A filename by itself cannot establish that a file is legitimate.
TradingView warns that fake, cracked or so-called developer versions can carry malware or remote-access tools. This is not a theoretical concern. On December 23, 2022, Zscaler ThreatLabz documented a look-alike tradingview.business site that distributed a backdoored installer. Its analysis identified SmokeLoader and ArkeiStealer; the sample was named TradingVlev_x32_x64bit.exe and dropped Scintilla.DLL and bot.exe as part of an information-stealing chain.
TradingView’s April 28, 2025 scam alert also described fake YouTube channels that directed people to PowerShell commands. Those commands installed remote-access trojans and targeted wallet credentials. A download offered through a look-alike domain, unsolicited message, “cracked” software page, beta invitation or PowerShell instruction should therefore be treated as suspicious even if its filename looks plausible.
How can I check whether the file is genuine?
Use several independent checks. No single result, including a digital signature, settles the question on its own.
- Locate the running file. Open Task Manager, find the TradingView process, right-click it and choose Open file location. An unexpected path in a user Downloads folder or a temporary directory is a reason to investigate further, not automatic proof of malware. Record the complete path before closing anything.
- Inspect Properties. Right-click the executable, choose Properties, and open Digital Signatures. Check that Windows reports the signature as valid and that the signer is consistent with the official TradingView distribution. A valid signature is useful evidence but not a guarantee: Zscaler documented a malicious sample signed by AVG Technologies USA, LLC.
- Confirm the source. Compare the installer’s origin with TradingView’s official website or an official app store. Do not rely on a search-ad result, a shortened link, a file-sharing mirror, a forum attachment or a command copied from a video description.
- Scan the file and its installation directory. Use Microsoft Defender to scan the executable and the directory that contains it. Microsoft’s SmartScreen checks downloaded applications against reputation and malware lists and can warn when a file is unknown or potentially unsafe.
- Review behavior. A normal TradingView launch should show the TradingView interface. Unexpected PowerShell windows, unknown child processes, persistence mechanisms, unexplained outbound connections or prompts to disable security controls are warning signs. Stop using the file while you investigate.
If the source, path, signature and scan results do not agree, do not assume the most reassuring item is correct. Remove the questionable installer, obtain a fresh package through an official channel and scan again before opening it.

What Windows versions and hardware does TradingView Desktop require?
TradingView’s current requirements list Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer, Windows App Installer, and a 64-bit Intel or AMD processor. ARM processors are not supported. IPv6 is not currently supported, so a network that prioritizes IPv6 can produce connectivity problems even when other applications work normally.
- Operating system: Windows 10 22H2 or later, or Windows 11 22H2 or later.
- Processor: 64-bit Intel or AMD.
- Installer component: Windows App Installer.
- Processor architecture not supported: ARM.
- Networking limitation: IPv6 is not currently supported.
To check your Windows edition and build, press Windows key + R, enter winver, and press Enter. Install pending Windows updates before troubleshooting the TradingView package; an outdated servicing stack or App Installer can prevent an otherwise valid package from opening.
How do I install TradingView Desktop when Windows will not open the package?
The official Windows package is TradingView.appinstaller. Download it only from TradingView’s official download page or an official app store, then use the branch below that matches the message on your screen.
“How do you want to open this file?”
This message usually means Windows cannot associate the .appinstaller file with Windows App Installer. First update Windows and restart. If the message remains, install or update App Installer through the Microsoft Store, then open the TradingView package again. Do not solve the association problem by downloading a random executable with a similar name.
“Windows cannot install package” during an upgrade
Uninstall the existing TradingView Desktop installation, restart Windows and install the newest package. TradingView specifically documents an incompatibility between its old beta.12 and beta.13 builds; leaving the older beta in place can make the upgrade fail. Removing the old app before installing the current build avoids that package-state conflict.

How do I fix TradingView Desktop crashes and runtime errors?
TradingView’s ordered crash procedure is designed to separate an outdated app, damaged local data, a resource-heavy indicator, security software interference and a Windows or driver problem. Work through the steps in sequence so that each change has a clear result.
- Update TradingView Desktop. Open the app and check Settings → About for the installed version. TradingView’s release notes list version 3.4.1 — TradingView, 2026, released September 8, 2026, as a hotfix for a crash when opening PDF earnings reports. Version 3.4.0 — TradingView, 2026, released August 27, 2026, updated Electron to version 41. Because release numbers change, use the in-app About page and the current release-notes page rather than treating either version as a permanent target.
- Clear the application cache. In TradingView Desktop open Settings → Service → Clear cache. Restart the application after the cache is cleared. This is the supported first response to corrupted or stale local service data.
- Disable indicators temporarily. Remove or disable all custom and third-party indicators, then reopen the affected chart. Re-enable indicators one at a time. If the crash returns after a particular indicator is restored, that indicator is the likely resource-heavy trigger; keep it disabled and contact its author or replace it.
- Check security and network-monitoring software. Antivirus, firewall, VPN and network-monitoring tools can interfere with desktop application updates or network connections. Review their blocked-app and quarantine logs, and test with the relevant TradingView component allowed according to the security product’s normal procedure. Do not leave protection disabled as a permanent fix.
- Reduce competing resource use. Close other applications that consume unusually high CPU or memory, especially browsers with many tabs, video tools, virtual machines and other charting or analytics programs. Reopen TradingView with only the applications needed for the test.
- Update Windows and device drivers. Install current Windows updates and the latest drivers supplied for your hardware. Driver or operating-system faults can appear as freezes, rendering failures or unexplained application exits even when the TradingView package is intact.
- Compare with the browser version. Sign in through TradingView’s web platform and reproduce the same chart, symbol or report action. If the browser works while Desktop fails, the problem is more likely local to the app package, cache, indicators, graphics path or desktop-specific integration. If both fail, investigate the account, network, data feed or chart configuration rather than reinstalling repeatedly.
How can I tell a legitimate installation from a suspicious one?
Use the following comparison while investigating a process or installer. The table describes evidence to weigh together, not a single automatic verdict.
| Check | Expected legitimate installation | Suspicious indication |
|---|---|---|
| Download source | TradingView’s official website or an official app store | Look-alike domain, cracked-download page, unsolicited message, forum attachment or PowerShell offer |
| Package | TradingView.appinstaller handled by Windows App Installer |
Unrelated installer name, archive, script or executable presented as a special developer or beta build |
| Signature | Windows reports a valid signature consistent with the official distribution | Missing, invalid or unexpected signer; even a valid signature must be checked against source and behavior |
| Windows reputation | No unexplained SmartScreen or Defender warning | SmartScreen warning, malware detection or a request to bypass protection |
| Runtime behavior | Normal TradingView interface and expected desktop features | PowerShell requests, unknown child processes, persistence, unexplained outbound connections or credential prompts |
What should I do if I already ran a suspicious copy?
Stop interacting with the file and isolate the computer from the network if you suspect a remote-access tool or information stealer. Run a full Microsoft Defender scan, including the installation directory and any downloaded installers. Do not enter trading, email or wallet credentials on the affected machine until the scan and investigation are complete.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I uninstall TradingView Desktop without deleting my charts or account?
Uninstalling the Windows application removes the local app, not your TradingView account. Sign in through the browser first to confirm that your layouts and watchlists are synchronized, then remove TradingView from Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps and reinstall the official package if needed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan I keep using TradingView in a browser while Desktop is broken?
Yes. The browser version is a useful continuity option and a diagnostic comparison. Reproduce the same symbol, chart and report action there; a browser-only success points toward a desktop installation, cache, indicator or graphics issue rather than automatically proving an account problem.
Why might a TradingView update fail even when the downloaded file looks normal?
Windows App Installer, an older beta package or a pending Windows servicing update can block an otherwise valid package. Checking the exact error code and the installed Windows/App Installer versions is more useful than repeatedly downloading the same file.
Does an official-looking filename prove that a process is safe?
No. Malware can use familiar names, and a malicious file can even carry a valid signature from an unrelated signer. Source, path, signature, Defender results and runtime behavior need to agree before you trust the process.
