tsclient.exe is not one universal Windows component. The same filename appears in different products, including Parallels Client and Axway B2Bi Client, while Microsoft’s built-in Remote Desktop Connection program is named mstsc.exe. Because of that, the filename alone cannot prove that a file is legitimate or malicious. Identify its full folder path, publisher or digital signature, the application that installed it, and the exact error before choosing a fix. If the message concerns an RDP connection, check the destination, network, firewall and credentials; those steps do not automatically apply to Parallels, Axway or other software using the same name.
What is tsclient.exe?
tsclient.exe is an executable name used by more than one Windows application. Parallels documents TSClient.exe in instructions for collecting crash dumps from Parallels Client. Axway documents tsclient.exe as part of its B2Bi Client. These are separate products, so a file with this name cannot be identified from the filename alone.

The distinction matters when an error appears. A crash in Parallels Client needs Parallels-specific support; a B2Bi Client failure belongs to Axway’s product; an RDP connection problem may instead concern Microsoft’s Remote Desktop workflow. Treating every tsclient.exe as the same program can lead you to change the wrong settings or delete a file another application needs.

Is tsclient.exe a standard Windows file?
No. The Microsoft documentation for the built-in Remote Desktop Connection client identifies mstsc.exe. That is a different filename from tsclient.exe. A program can still launch a remote session or handle an RDP file without being Microsoft’s built-in client, so seeing a remote-desktop reference does not establish which vendor supplied the executable.

Do not use the name as a deletion rule. First determine the application and location. A legitimate third-party client may stop working if its executable is removed, while an unexpected copy deserves a closer safety review rather than an assumption that it is a Windows component.
Is tsclient.exe safe?
The filename by itself cannot answer that question. Safety depends on the file’s folder, the application that installed it, its publisher and signature, and what the program is trying to open or connect to. The documented Parallels and Axway uses show that legitimate files with this name exist, but they do not prove that every copy is genuine.
1. Find the exact file path
- When the process is running, open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - On the Details tab, locate
tsclient.exe(orTSClient.exe), right-click it and choose Open file location. If the process is not listed, use Windows Search for the filename and note every matching path. - Record the complete folder path. A path inside a known Parallels or Axway installation is meaningful only when that product is installed and expected on the computer; a copy in an unrelated or temporary-looking folder needs additional checking.
Do not infer legitimacy from a familiar-looking folder name alone. Use the path together with the installed application’s entry and the file’s signer.
2. Identify the installing application
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on older Windows) and look for Parallels Client, Axway B2Bi Client or another program associated with the path. Check the program’s publisher and installation date. If no expected application accounts for the file, keep investigating instead of deleting it immediately; the same name can be reused by unrelated software.

3. Check the publisher and digital signature
- Right-click the executable, choose Properties, and open the Digital Signatures tab when it is present.
- Select a signature and choose Details to see the signer and whether Windows reports that the signature is valid.
- Compare the signer with the vendor of the application you identified. A missing or unexpected signer is a reason to pause and verify the software source.
A digital signature confirms the identity of the entity that signed the file and detects changes made after signing. It does not guarantee that the file or the signer is safe. Microsoft states this distinction in its RDP-file security guidance, so treat a valid signature as evidence about origin and integrity, not as a complete safety verdict.
4. Treat unexpected RDP files cautiously
If the executable appeared after you opened an .rdp file or received a remote-session prompt, verify the remote address and whether you expected the file. Microsoft warns that an unsigned RDP file can come from anyone. Review which local resources the connection requests and leave redirections you do not need disabled.

When the error names Parallels Client
Confirm that the path belongs to the installed Parallels Client and capture the complete crash message, including any faulting module or code shown by Windows. Use Parallels’ support procedure for that product’s crash dump rather than applying an RDP network checklist. The available documentation establishes the filename association, but it does not provide a single repair that works for every Parallels crash.
If the application was recently updated, repaired or reinstalled, record that change for support. Do not replace the executable with a copy from another computer: even files with identical names can belong to different product versions.

When the error names Axway B2Bi Client
Verify that the executable is inside the B2Bi Client installation and note the B2Bi component or workflow that was active. Follow Axway’s product-specific support process with the error text and path. An RDP connectivity procedure cannot repair a B2Bi application failure simply because both situations may display a similar filename.
When the message is an RDP connection failure
Use the following sequence only when the wording concerns connecting to a remote Windows PC, not when it describes a local application crash.

- Check the remote PC name. Re-enter it exactly as provided by the administrator. A misspelled or outdated name can prevent a connection before authentication begins.
- Try the IP address when appropriate. If name resolution may be failing, use the remote computer’s current IP address instead of its host name. An IP address will not help if the computer’s address changes or is not reachable, so treat this as a diagnostic comparison.
- Confirm network access. Make sure the client is on the expected local network or approved remote-access path and that the remote PC is powered on and reachable. If other network services are unavailable, resolve that broader connectivity problem first.
- Check firewall access. A firewall on the client, remote PC or intervening network can block Remote Desktop. Verify that the organisation’s policy permits Remote Desktop traffic; do not disable security controls indiscriminately.
- Recheck credentials for access-denied errors. Enter the username in the format required by the remote environment and confirm the password. If the password was changed recently, remove stale saved credentials and sign in with the current one according to your organisation’s instructions.
These checks address a destination, network, firewall or authentication failure. They will not repair a damaged Parallels or Axway executable, and a successful name-resolution test does not prove that the remote account is authorised.
When the message is “access denied”
Separate authentication from connectivity. If the remote computer cannot be reached, begin with the name, IP, network and firewall checks. If it is reached but rejects the session, verify the username, current password and permission to use Remote Desktop. A password change can leave an old saved credential in use, so remove or update that saved entry through the credential-management path your Windows edition provides.
When the message is a local crash or missing-file error
Do not assume that an RDP fix applies. Reconfirm the path and owning application, then use that vendor’s repair, update or reinstall instructions. If the program was removed but the executable remains, uninstall it through Settings > Apps > Installed apps rather than deleting random files from the folder. What should I avoid when troubleshooting tsclient.exe?
- Do not delete by filename alone. Parallels and Axway both document legitimate uses of the name.
- Do not substitute
mstsc.exefor a third-party client without a reason. Only if you intentionally want Microsoft’s built-in Remote Desktop Connection client. Switching clients does not repair a Parallels or Axway application and may remove features or settings required by that software.
Why can two tsclient.exe files appear on one PC?
Different products can legitimately use the same filename, and an old installation can leave a copy after an application change. Compare each file’s path, signer and associated installed program instead of treating duplicate names as proof of infection.
