txbugreport.exe is not a unique Windows component. Tencent-distributed programs have used that filename, but at least one 2025 sandbox submission with the same name was labeled “Malicious activity.” A Tencent signature or a familiar filename therefore cannot prove that your copy is safe. Identify the exact file by its full path, SHA-256 hash, Authenticode signature, product metadata, and scan results before repairing or deleting anything.

A copy in a Tencent, WeChat, or QQ Browser directory with a valid signature and clean Defender result may be a legitimate diagnostic component. A copy in Downloads, a temporary folder, Startup, or an unrelated directory—or one with an invalid signature or a security detection—should be quarantined and investigated.

What is txbugreport.exe?

txbugreport.exe is a Windows executable name associated with more than one Tencent product. There is no Tencent-published functional specification or universal error-code list that applies to every file carrying the name. The executable may be installed with a Tencent desktop application, a WeChat plug-in, or QQ Browser, and different releases can have different sizes, versions, and behavior.

ThreatInfo records illustrate that variation. A 2026 record lists a 537 KB file signed by Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Company Limited under WeChat plug-in paths such as %appdata%tencentwechatxpluginpluginsthumbplayer4073, wechatocr7079, and wechatutility8091. An older record, first seen in 2021 and analyzed in 2022, lists a 294 KB Tencent-signed file commonly under %programfiles%tencent. Those records are identification clues, not a clean-safety certification.

An ANY.RUN submission analyzed on July 22, 2025, had PE32+ Windows GUI metadata showing CompanyName “Tencent,” ProductName “QQ浏览器 (QQ Browser),” file version 10.6.0.3, and a 2025 Tencent copyright notice. Its 60-second sandbox run was labeled “Malicious activity,” with an untrusted certificate and an application crash reported. The service also warns that user actions can distort a report and that it does not guarantee maliciousness or safety. Treat that sample as evidence that the filename is reused, not as proof that every Tencent installation is malicious.

Is txbugreport.exe safe?

Safety is conditional on the exact copy. A valid Tencent signature supports publisher identity, but a signature alone does not prove that a bundled, replaced, or abused file is safe. Use all of the following evidence together.

Finding How to interpret it Recommended response
Expected Tencent, WeChat, or QQ Browser directory; signature resolves to Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Company Limited; metadata matches an installed product; Defender is clean Potentially legitimate component Repair the parent application if it crashes; do not delete the executable blindly
Temporary, Downloads, Startup, or unrelated directory; no Tencent application installed; absent, invalid, or mismatched signature Suspicious copy Do not run it; record its hash and quarantine after scanning
Defender or another reputable scanner detects it; certificate is untrusted; behavior matches a malicious-analysis sample Treat as malicious until investigated Quarantine first, preserve evidence, and scan offline if the warning persists

Microsoft defines malware as “malicious software” and recommends trusted download sources, current antivirus protection, a full Microsoft Defender scan, and Microsoft Defender Offline for persistent unwanted software. Disconnect sensitive accounts or networks while examining a strongly suspicious file, especially if it starts automatically or makes unexpected network connections.

How do I identify my exact txbugreport.exe file?

Do this before replacing, deleting, or approving the file. The goal is to distinguish a legitimate Tencent component from a file that merely borrowed the name.

  1. Capture the error and path. Copy the complete message, then open Task Manager if the process is running, right-click txbugreport.exe, choose Open file location, and copy the full path. If Windows reports the error at startup, note the time and the program that launches it.
  2. Inspect version and publisher fields. In File Explorer, right-click the file, select Properties, and review Digital Signatures and Details. Record the signer, signature status, CompanyName, ProductName, File version, and Original filename. A QQ Browser version 10.6.0.3, for example, describes the submitted sample only; it is not a universal version for all copies.
  3. Calculate a SHA-256 hash. In PowerShell, run Get-FileHash -LiteralPath "C:fullpathtxbugreport.exe" -Algorithm SHA256. Replace the path with your own, and save the result before quarantine or deletion. File size, PE architecture, and hash are more useful than the filename when two reports conflict.
  4. Check the parent application. In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, look for Tencent software, WeChat, QQ Browser, or another product that owns the directory. If no related application exists, increase the suspicion level. Do not infer ownership solely from a folder name; verify the executable’s properties and the application’s install location.
  5. Review launch points. In Task Manager’s Startup apps tab and in Settings > Apps > Startup, look for an entry pointing to the file. An unexpected startup entry, scheduled task, service, or repeated recreation after deletion warrants a malware investigation rather than a simple reinstall.

Why does txbugreport.exe keep crashing?

Crashes can result from a damaged Tencent installation, incompatible updates, missing Windows components, a blocked or quarantined dependency, or a malicious replacement. Because no source provides a universal TxBugReport.exe error map, use the path, parent application, Event Viewer details, and scan results to choose the branch.

The Tencent application is damaged or only recently updated

A partial update, interrupted uninstall, or corrupted plug-in can leave the executable unable to load a DLL or configuration file. A crash that began immediately after updating WeChat, QQ Browser, or another Tencent product points first to repairing or reinstalling that parent program.

Windows system files or servicing components are corrupt

Unexpected application failures accompanied by other Windows errors can indicate component-store or protected-file corruption. DISM and System File Checker repair Windows itself; they do not certify a third-party executable as safe.

The file is blocked, replaced, or malicious

An invalid certificate, an unexpected location, persistence after removal, security detections, or unusual child processes and network activity are warning signs. In this case, repeated launches may be a symptom of compromise rather than a normal application bug.

How do I fix txbugreport.exe errors on Windows?

Follow this order so that you preserve evidence and avoid restoring a dangerous file.

1. Preserve identity and evidence

Write down the exact error text, full path, file size, signer, product/version fields, and SHA-256 hash. Take a screenshot of the Digital Signatures tab and note whether the certificate is valid at the time of inspection. Compare hashes and metadata with public records only as reference points; a matching filename or approximate size does not establish that two files are the same.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Update Defender and run a full scan

  1. Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection updates and select Check for updates.
  2. Return to Virus & threat protection, choose Scan options, select Full scan, and start it. A full scan can take substantially longer than a quick scan.
  3. If the file is unexpected, the warning returns, or the process starts again after removal, select Microsoft Defender Offline scan. Save open work first; Windows restarts and scans before the normal desktop loads.

Follow the detection’s quarantine or removal recommendation. Do not add an exclusion merely to stop the error. If you suspect account or network exposure, disconnect sensitive systems while you investigate and change credentials from a known-clean device.

3. Repair or reinstall the owning Tencent application

  1. Restart Windows once to clear a locked process and complete any pending update.
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the Tencent product associated with the path, open its menu, and choose Advanced options.
  3. Use Repair when available. This attempts to replace damaged program files while retaining application data.
  4. If Repair does not resolve the crash, use Reset only after confirming what data the product stores locally; Reset can remove settings or cached data.
  5. When those options are unavailable or fail, uninstall the parent application, restart, and reinstall it from the publisher’s trusted source. Do not download a replacement TxBugReport.exe from a file-sharing site.

If Defender identifies the executable, quarantine it before reinstalling. Reinstalling over a detected file can restore the same problem.

4. Repair Windows components

When logs suggest system corruption, open Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin). Run the commands in this order and wait for each to finish:

  1. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  2. sfc /scannow

Restart after both commands complete, then test the Tencent application again. DISM repairs the Windows component store; SFC checks and repairs protected system files. Neither command proves that txbugreport.exe itself is genuine, nor will either repair a malicious third-party binary.

5. Check application and system logs

Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application and inspect entries at the crash time. Note the faulting application, faulting module, exception code, and path. A module in the Tencent directory suggests an application dependency; a Windows system module may support the DISM/SFC branch; an unknown module in a temporary directory is a reason to stop troubleshooting and scan.

6. Escalate when compromise or severe corruption remains

Back up important personal files before recovery, but do not back up the suspicious executable or unknown installers. If Defender Offline continues to find malware, the file recreates itself, or Windows remains unstable after app repair and component repair, use Windows installation media to reinstall Windows. Microsoft describes reinstalling from installation media as a recovery option when malware is suspected or less disruptive methods fail. Verify the Windows edition, license, and a trusted media source before proceeding.

7. Report a suspected false positive or sample

If a clean, expected Tencent file is repeatedly detected, preserve its hash, signature details, and detection name. Microsoft’s Security Intelligence submission portal accepts suspicious files and possible false positives. Submit the original sample only through the official process and follow its packaging instructions.

Can I delete txbugreport.exe?

Do not delete it solely because the name looks unfamiliar or because an error dialog mentions it. Removing a legitimate component can break the parent Tencent application and may cause it to recreate the file. First record the path and hash, identify the parent program, scan the file, and then uninstall or reinstall that parent application from a trusted source.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Direct deletion is reasonable only after a reputable scanner has quarantined or cleared the file and you have confirmed that no legitimate application depends on it. If Windows refuses deletion because the file is running, do not use random “unlocker” utilities; stop the owning application, reboot, and let Defender quarantine it. Persistence after deletion is a stronger compromise indicator and calls for an offline scan.

What should I compare when two txbugreport.exe copies or diagnoses conflict?

Compare the binaries and their context, not just their names.

Evidence Questions to ask
Hash and build Are the SHA-256 values identical? Do file size, PE32/PE32+ architecture, and version match?
Publisher trust Is the Authenticode signer Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Company Limited, is the certificate valid, and does the chain verify?
Location and parent Is the file in an expected Tencent, WeChat, or QQ Browser directory, and is that product actually installed?
Behavior Does it only crash with its parent app, or does it persist, launch at startup, create unusual processes, or make unexpected network connections?
Remediation cost Can app Repair or a clean reinstall solve the problem, or is Windows recovery media justified by unresolved corruption or suspected compromise?

A 537 KB Tencent-signed WeChat-plug-in record from 2026 and a 294 KB record analyzed in 2022 are different evidence points. Neither should be substituted for the hash and metadata of your local file.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tencent officially document what txbugreport.exe does?

No Tencent-authored functional specification for every file with this name is established here. Product metadata and installation paths can identify an associated application, but they do not provide a guaranteed feature list or explain every crash dialog.

Why can a digitally signed file still be dangerous?

A valid signature indicates who signed the binary and whether it was altered after signing; it does not prove that the signed program is appropriate for your computer or that a bundled component behaves safely. A signed file in an unexpected location, paired with persistence or security detections, still requires investigation.

Will reinstalling Windows always remove the problem?

A clean reinstall can remove persistent malware and severe system corruption, but it is disruptive and may not address a compromised backup or a later reinstallation of the same unsafe software. Back up only personal data you trust, create installation media from an official source, and scan restored files before opening them.

What information should I give support?

Provide the exact error text, Windows edition and build, parent Tencent product and version, full path, file size, SHA-256 hash, signature status, Defender detection name, and the times of crashes. Including Event Viewer’s faulting module and exception code helps support distinguish an application dependency from Windows corruption or a security incident.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can txbugreport.exe be a false positive in Microsoft Defender?

Yes. A legitimate Tencent component can be misclassified, particularly when its behavior resembles a diagnostic or updater process. Preserve the hash and signature, confirm the parent application, and submit the sample through Microsoft’s official Security Intelligence process rather than creating a Defender exclusion.

Should I end txbugreport.exe in Task Manager?

Ending the process is generally a temporary diagnostic action, not a repair. If the file is suspicious, disconnect sensitive systems and let Defender quarantine it; if it belongs to a legitimate Tencent app, ending it may simply make that app lose a feature or restart the process.

Where are Tencent-related copies commonly found?

Records have shown copies under %programfiles%tencent and under WeChat plug-in directories such as xpluginpluginsthumbplayer, wechatocr, and wechatutility. These paths are clues only; verify the signature, hash, and installed parent product.

What if the error appears only when Windows starts?

Check Task Manager’s Startup apps and Settings’ Startup page for the exact path, then inspect scheduled tasks and the parent Tencent installation. Disable the entry only after recording its details and scanning the file; repeated recreation after disablement points toward a damaged installer or persistence that needs deeper investigation.
