umamusume.exe is the Windows game executable associated with the DMM GAMES installation of Umamusume: Pretty Derby. It can be a legitimate game file, but its name alone cannot authenticate the copy on your PC: a filename is not a malware scan, digital-signature check, or published hash. Is umamusume.exe safe?
The qualified answer is: it may be safe when it belongs to an installation you obtained through the official DMM GAMES or Steam distribution, but the filename alone cannot prove that. The available support material does not publish a hash or a definitive safety verdict for an individual copy on a reader’s PC. Treat an unexpected copy as something to investigate rather than as automatically genuine or automatically malware.
Check the edition before judging the file
- Open the launcher you actually use. If the title is managed through Steam, use the Steam edition’s support path; if it is managed through DMM GAME PLAYER, use the DMM guidance.

What are the Steam PC system requirements?
Steam lists the following minimum configuration for its PC edition. These are listing details for Steam, not an independent benchmark and not a specification that automatically applies to every DMM build.

For DMM, use the requirements published for the DMM edition in Cygames’ FAQ rather than copying the Steam table. If your Windows version or hardware does not meet the requirements for the edition you installed, an executable error may be a symptom of an unsupported environment rather than a damaged file.
How do I fix umamusume.exe errors on Windows?
Work from the least destructive checks to the edition-specific repair tools. Keep the exact error text, the launcher you used, and the file path you found; those details prevent a Steam fix from being applied to a DMM installation or vice versa.
1. Identify when and where the error occurs
Note whether the message appears when launching the game, after the title screen, during a data download, or while connecting to the service. Record whether Windows names umamusume.exe, another component, or a missing file. A launch failure before the title screen calls for different evidence than a data-repair failure after the game has started.

2. Check the requirements for that edition
For Steam, compare Windows 11, the listed Core i3-4360 or AMD A8-7650K class processor, 8 GB of RAM, GTX 750 Ti or Radeon R7 250X class graphics, DirectX 11, and 11 GB of free storage with your PC. The Steam page recommends an SSD. For DMM, open the corresponding Cygames requirements in the official FAQ; Cygames states that operation outside published requirements is not guaranteed.
Check free space on the drive that contains the game, not only the system drive. If the game needs to repair or bulk-download data, a nearly full drive can prevent the operation from completing even when the executable itself is present.
3. Restart the game and Windows
Close the game and its launcher, then restart Windows and try the same official shortcut again. Cygames includes restarting among its troubleshooting advice for supported environments. A restart clears a one-time stuck process or pending system state without changing the installation, so it is a safer first action than deleting files.
4. Close other applications when resources are tight
Cygames suggests closing other apps when resource load may contribute to a problem. Save work, exit demanding games, browsers with many tabs, recording software, and other programs you do not need for the test, then launch the game again. If the error disappears only after other programs close, note that pattern for support instead of assuming that umamusume.exe was corrupted.
5. Use the in-game data-repair and bulk-download process when it applies
For applicable game-client problems, Cygames’ FAQ describes using the title-screen menu’s data repair function and then performing a bulk download. Start the game through the correct edition’s launcher, open the title-screen menu, select the repair option, and let it finish. Follow the subsequent bulk-download prompt and keep the launcher open until the transfer completes.

This procedure is for problems covered by the Cygames instructions; it is not a reason to download an umamusume.exe file from a third-party site. If the title screen never appears, skip this step and continue with the requirements, restart, security, and support checks.
6. Check region and VPN conditions
Cygames says the Japanese service is intended for Japan and cautions that access from overseas or through a VPN may not work normally or be supported. If you are outside Japan or using a VPN, include that fact in your diagnosis. You may test the official connection under the service’s supported conditions, but do not interpret a region-related connection failure as proof that the executable is unsafe.
Region and edition matter together: a Steam technical issue, a DMM launcher issue, and a connection problem on the Japanese service can produce different symptoms while displaying the same process name. Record your country or region, whether a VPN is enabled, and which launcher starts the game before contacting support.

7. Handle security software without creating a blanket exclusion
Do not turn off antivirus protection for every reader as a general fix, and do not assume that allowing the executable will make it safe. A SOURCENEXT article dated August 4, 2023 describes a product-specific exclusion procedure in its Super Security product for a DMM GAME PLAYER launch issue and uses C:Users<username>Umamusumeumamusume.exe as an example location. That article concerns one security product and one troubleshooting context; it does not establish that excluding the game is safe for all security products or all installations.
If your security product has quarantined or blocked the file, read its alert and follow that product’s documented recovery process. 8. Recheck the shortcut and installation ownership
Use the launcher that installed the game and inspect the shortcut’s target rather than opening a similarly named file elsewhere. If multiple copies exist, record each location and which launcher opens it. Keep the copy associated with the official installation as the one you test; avoid renaming, deleting, or replacing executables while you are still collecting evidence.
If a repair or download operation changes the file location, update your notes and recheck the shortcut. A path change can result from a user-selected library or a second installation, so it must be interpreted alongside the edition and launcher rather than judged by the filename alone.

9. Escalate with complete details
When the steps above do not resolve the error, use the support channel for the edition you actually installed. The Japanese Cygames FAQ covers DMM and Steam references, and the English Cygames support portal provides the English route. For Steam-specific technical issues, submit the details through Steam Support.
Include the exact Windows version, edition, launcher, error wording, whether the title screen appears, the file path, your region, VPN status, and which steps you completed. This gives support enough context to distinguish an unsupported requirement, a data problem, a launcher mismatch, a security-product block, and a service-access issue.
