uplayinstaller 1.exe cannot be identified as safe from its filename alone. Ubisoft has distributed legitimate Uplay installer files named uplayinstaller.exe, including signed builds from Ubisoft Entertainment Sweden AB, but a similarly named sample has also been detected as malware. The exact numeral-suffixed file uplayinstaller 1.exe was not separately catalogued in the available records. Treat it as untrusted until you verify its folder, digital signature, SHA-256 hash, download source and scan results. Do not run an unexpected copy. If a legitimate Ubisoft game or launcher is failing, verify the game files, repair Ubisoft Anti-Cheat, reinstall Ubisoft Connect when necessary, and use Windows’ built-in app recovery and security tools.
What is uplayinstaller 1.exe?
uplayinstaller 1.exe is an executable filename that suggests a Uplay installer, but the name by itself proves neither ownership nor safety. The documented Ubisoft files are named uplayinstaller.exe without the added “ 1”. Windows and browsers sometimes append a number when a second download has the same name, so the suffix may simply indicate a duplicate download; it is not a Ubisoft authenticity mark.

Uplay was Ubisoft’s earlier PC client. Ubisoft now describes Ubisoft Connect as its free desktop service, accessible through the desktop app and games and requiring a Ubisoft account. An old installer can therefore be left in a Downloads folder even after the current client has been installed. It can also be a renamed, incomplete or malicious file that only imitates the expected name.
Which uplayinstaller files have been recorded as legitimate or suspicious?
Security verdicts apply to a particular file hash, not to every file with the same name. The following records show why a filename-only decision is unsafe.

| Recorded sample | Publisher or signature | Reported result | What the record identifies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uplay 5.1, version 5.1.0.3929 | Ubisoft Entertainment Sweden AB; Ubisoft signature | 0/68 detections in a 2026 herdProtect record | NSIS installer named uplayinstaller.exe |
| Uplay 15.0, version 15.0.0.4615 | Ubisoft sample record | 0/68 detections in a 2026 herdProtect record | Version-specific result; it does not certify another hash |
| Uplay 4.4 | Signed by Ubisoft Entertainment Sweden AB | 1/68 detection in a 2026 herdProtect record | The database describes the alert as probably a false positive |
| Different sample, recorded May 29, 2023 | Not established as an authentic Ubisoft build | Detected as Virus.Grenam by ThreatInfo/GridinSoft | The record advises checking the hash and location and performing a full scan |
These are sample-specific findings. A clean 0/68 result for one hash does not make a different copy safe, and a single detection should not be dismissed merely because another version was clean.
Is uplayinstaller 1.exe safe to run?
Run it only when all of the available evidence matches an expected Ubisoft download. An unexpected location, invalid signature, mismatched hash or malware detection is a reason to stop and investigate rather than click through the installer.

- Expected source: you intentionally downloaded a Ubisoft installer or a game installer from Ubisoft’s official distribution channel.
- Risky source: the file arrived as an email attachment, a pop-up download, a cracked-game bundle, an unofficial mirror or a random temporary folder.
- Context: a copy in your Downloads folder after an intentional installation is easier to explain than one that appears in a system directory or launches at startup without your action.
Inspect the digital signature
- Right-click the file in File Explorer and choose Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab. Confirm that the signer is an expected Ubisoft entity and that Windows reports the signature as valid.
- Select the signature, choose Details, and check the signing certificate status. A missing, invalid or unrelated signer lowers confidence.
A Ubisoft-looking name in the filename is not a substitute for a valid signature. Some legitimate older files may have certificate details that differ by release, so compare the exact version and hash when a trusted record exists.
Record and compare the SHA-256 hash
In File Explorer, use Properties to note the full path and file size. You can calculate a SHA-256 value with the built-in command below, replacing the example path with the file’s actual path:
certutil -hashfile "C:fullpathuplayinstaller 1.exe" SHA256

Compare the resulting hash with a trusted Ubisoft-provided value or a malware-database record for the same version. If the version, path or hash does not match, do not run the file simply because a different Uplay sample was reported clean.

- Right-click the file and choose the Windows Security scan option when it is available.
- Open Windows Security and run a Full scan. In Windows 11, the path is Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Full scan. Windows 10 presents the same controls under Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security.
- If security software quarantines the file, preserve the detection name, hash and path. Do not restore it just because the filename contains “Uplay” or “Ubisoft”.
What should I do if the file is suspicious?
Do not launch an unexpected copy. Disconnecting from the internet can limit further activity while you investigate, but the essential steps are to keep the detection information, scan the system and obtain a known-good installer from Ubisoft’s official download page.
- Close the browser, game launcher and any installer window that opened unexpectedly.
- Record the file path, SHA-256 hash, digital-signature status and the security product’s detection name.
- Run a full Windows Security scan. If threats are found, let the security product clean or quarantine them before removing the Ubisoft application.
- Remove the suspect installer only after preserving the evidence you may need for a support request. If the file is in quarantine, leave it there unless a trusted, hash-specific analysis proves it is a false positive.
- Download Ubisoft Connect or the required game installer again from Ubisoft’s official page, not from a loose-DLL site or an unofficial mirror.
Microsoft’s guidance is to clean suspected threats before removing the app. A clean result for the replacement download still does not retroactively prove that the original uplayinstaller 1.exe was safe.
Can I delete uplayinstaller 1.exe?
Usually, deleting an installer is safe after you have confirmed that Ubisoft Connect and the game are installed and no repair or update is using that file. Deleting the installer does not uninstall the game; it removes only that downloaded executable. Do not delete it yet if an installation is incomplete, the launcher is asking for the same file, or you still need its hash for a malware investigation.
- Known-good leftover in Downloads: keep it only if you expect to reinstall from that exact verified copy; otherwise remove it after the installation works.
- Unknown file in a temporary or random directory: do not open it. Scan and quarantine it, and retain the path and hash for comparison.
- File requested repeatedly: deleting it alone may not stop the prompt. Repair or reinstall the launcher and investigate what process is requesting it.
How do I fix uplayinstaller 1.exe errors in a legitimate Ubisoft installation?
An installer filename can appear in a wider launcher or game problem. Ubisoft says its games use dependency files required to run on Windows and that missing or corrupted dependencies can cause crashes or performance issues. Work through the least destructive repair first, and stop if the file fails the safety checks above.

1. Identify the failing component
- If only one game crashes, start with that game’s file verification.
- If Ubisoft Anti-Cheat reports an error, use its repair utility in the game’s folder.
- If Ubisoft Connect itself will not install, update or open, repair or reinstall the desktop app.
- If Windows reports malware, quarantine and clean the threat before attempting software repair.
Write down the exact error text and whether it began after an update, a partial uninstall or a security quarantine. This prevents replacing a healthy installer when the damaged component is elsewhere.
2. Verify the game files in its launcher
- Open the launcher that owns the installation: Steam, Epic Games Launcher or Ubisoft Connect.
- Open the game’s library entry and choose its file-verification or file-integrity option.
- Allow the launcher to reacquire missing or corrupted dependencies, then restart the launcher and test the game.
The exact label differs by launcher. Verification is preferable to downloading a replacement DLL from an unofficial site because it restores files from the distribution channel that owns the game.
3. Repair Ubisoft Anti-Cheat
- Open the game’s installation folder in File Explorer.
- Open the
Sentinelsubfolder. - Right-click
UbisoftAntiCheatInstaller.exeand choose Run as administrator. - Select Repair. If the installation is missing or the repair does not work, run the utility again and select Install to reinstall it.
- Restart the computer and launch the game from its normal launcher.
Do not substitute a similarly named executable downloaded from elsewhere. The Anti-Cheat utility should come from the game’s own installation and should be checked for a valid signer when Windows presents one.
4. Reinstall Ubisoft Connect when the desktop app is damaged
Use Ubisoft’s official download endpoint to obtain a fresh Ubisoft Connect installer. Close the launcher first, uninstall the damaged desktop app through Windows, restart, and then install the verified replacement. Reinstalling the app is appropriate when the client cannot update or repeatedly requests an installer; it should not be the first response to an unverified file that may be malicious.

5. Use Windows 11’s built-in app recovery
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected desktop app, select its menu, choose Advanced options, and try Repair.
- Test the app. If Repair does not resolve the problem, return to the same page and choose Reset, understanding that reset can remove the app’s local data and sign-in state.
- If recovery fails, use Uninstall, restart Windows, and install a fresh copy from Ubisoft.
Microsoft documents these options for incomplete or corrupted desktop-app data. Back up settings or note account details before a reset or uninstall.

6. Use Microsoft’s Windows 10 install-and-uninstall troubleshooter
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025, but Microsoft still documents its Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter for systems where a program cannot be installed, updated or removed. It targets issues such as corrupted registry keys, incomplete uninstall data and blocked installation or removal. Use it when the Ubisoft client is stuck in an install loop or Windows refuses to remove the old entry, then obtain the replacement installer from Ubisoft.
7. Repair the trigger behind repeated pop-ups
If uplayinstaller 1.exe keeps appearing, first note the path shown by the prompt and whether the request occurs at sign-in, when a particular game starts or at random. A leftover installer, an interrupted update or a damaged launcher can all produce repeated requests; an unexpected path or security detection requires malware handling instead.
- Cancel the prompt without running the file and scan the named path.
- Close Steam, Epic Games Launcher and Ubisoft Connect, then restart Windows.
- Open the affected launcher and use its update, verify or repair function instead of launching the file directly.
- If the prompt continues, uninstall the damaged Ubisoft Connect installation, restart, and install the verified official build.
- Run a full Windows Security scan if the prompt appears without any game or launcher activity.
What should I never do when fixing this error?
- Do not download a loose replacement DLL or a “fixed” executable from an unofficial DLL website.
- Do not whitelist the file solely because its name includes Ubisoft or Uplay.
- Do not infer safety from one scanner result, a different file version or a clean result for another hash.
- Do not restore a quarantined copy until its exact hash and provenance have been checked.
- Do not delete evidence of a suspected infection before recording the path, hash and detection name.
How can I decide whether to keep repairing or reinstall everything?
| What you observe | Best next action |
|---|---|
| Valid Ubisoft signature, expected source and matching hash; one game fails | Verify that game’s files, then repair its Anti-Cheat component if applicable. |
| Launcher fails to open or repeatedly asks for an installer | Use Windows app Repair or Reset where available, then reinstall Ubisoft Connect from Ubisoft. |
| Invalid signature, random path or unexpected download | Do not run it; record the hash, scan Windows and obtain a fresh official installer. |
| Security product reports malware | Keep the item quarantined, clean the system and investigate the exact detection before reinstalling. |
| Only an old installer remains after a successful installation | After verifying the installed app works, delete the leftover installer rather than treating it as a game file. |

Does a clean antivirus scan prove that this exact file is safe?
No. A scan is one signal, while the file’s exact hash, path, signature and provenance identify the copy you actually have. A previously clean sample can differ from a newly downloaded file even when both use the same filename.
Why is there a “1” after the installer name?
Windows or a browser may add a number when another download already has the same name. That convention explains the suffix but does not verify the publisher, because a malicious file can be given the same name manually.
Will deleting the installer remove my Ubisoft game?
No, deleting a downloaded installer normally removes only that setup file. Removing the installed game or launcher requires an uninstall action in Windows or the relevant game launcher.
