One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFor a first playthrough of the four principal Batman: Arkham games, play them in release order: Arkham Asylum → Arkham City → Arkham Origins → Arkham Knight. If you would rather follow the story’s in-universe chronology, start with the prequel, Arkham Origins. These are recommended ways to play, not mandatory rules.
Which order is best for a first playthrough?
Choose release order: Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, Batman: Arkham Origins, then Batman: Arkham Knight. It preserves the games’ release sequence and leaves Arkham Knight—which Warner Bros. described as Rocksteady’s conclusion to the series begun with Asylum and City—until last.

This is an editorial recommendation rather than an official required sequence. Arkham Origins was released after City, but its story takes place earlier.
What is the story chronology?
- Batman: Arkham Origins
- Batman: Arkham Asylum
- Batman: Arkham City
- Batman: Arkham Knight
DC describes Arkham Origins as an original prequel storyline set several years before Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Putting it first gives you the in-universe sequence for these four principal games. The order after Origins follows the progression from Asylum to City and then Rocksteady’s stated conclusion, Knight.

- Batman: Arkham Collection brings you the definitive versions of Rocksteady's Arkham Trilogy games, including all post-launch content, in one complete collection.
- Experience two of the most critically acclaimed titles of the last generation - Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, with fully remastered and updated visuals.

What if you only want to play Rocksteady’s trilogy?
Play Arkham Asylum → Arkham City → Arkham Knight. Warner Bros. groups these three Rocksteady games in the Batman: Arkham Trilogy collection. Arkham Origins is a separate prequel developed by WB Games Montréal, rather than one of those three trilogy entries.
Do the collections include all four games?
No. Check the contents of the collection for your platform before choosing it:

- Batman: Arkham Trilogy (Nintendo Switch): includes Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Knight, and previously released DLC. It does not list Arkham Origins, so you would need to obtain that game separately to play all four principal titles. See the official collection page for the package details.
- Batman: Return to Arkham: includes comprehensive versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, along with previously released additional DLC. It is a two-game collection, not the full four-game sequence. See Warner Bros.’ Return to Arkham support page.
Collections and platform editions differ; verify the version available for your console and whether it includes the game you still need. The listed collections do not establish a complete set of all four titles on every platform.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does this order cover every Arkham-related game?
No. The sequence here answers the common question about the four principal games and distinguishes Rocksteady’s three-game core from the Origins prequel. It is not a definitive chronology of every spin-off, later connected game, or DLC episode; those require checking each title’s continuity and intended scope.
