Cronos: Lazarus is a paid prequel expansion for Cronos: The New Dawn, not a standalone game and not part of the existing Deluxe Edition. It is announced at a $9.99 reference price for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on December 3, 2026; the Switch 2 version is scheduled for Q1 2027. You need the base game on the same platform and storefront to play it. If you are new to Cronos, the Standard Edition is enough—the Deluxe Edition adds resources and digital extras, not the expansion.

What is included in Cronos: Lazarus?
Lazarus is a story expansion set before The New Dawn. It puts players in the role of the Pathfinder, the Collective agent who becomes the Warden, and follows a forbidden mission to revive someone using lost Essence. The Collective must not discover what happened.

The main announced additions are:
- A Pathfinder origin story: the campaign explores the events leading to the character’s transformation into the Warden.
- The Tracker: a Collective envoy sent to hunt the Pathfinder.
- Teleportation: a rapid repositioning ability intended to help the Pathfinder move through combat.
- Decoy: distracts enemies and briefly makes the Pathfinder invisible.
- The Gladius: a melee weapon described by Bandai Namco Europe as faster and deadlier than the base game’s dagger.
The expansion remains third-person survival horror, but its announced emphasis is a faster, more aggressive style of fighting. That is a meaningful shift for players who prefer the base game’s more methodical survival-horror pace. It does not change the base game: buying Lazarus adds a separate campaign rather than replacing or altering the original story.

Bloober Team and PixelAnt Games are co-developing the expansion; Bloober Team SA is the publisher. Unreal Engine is listed as the engine. The Steam page describes the content as requiring the base game on Steam, and rates it for frequent violence or gore.
Is Cronos: Lazarus standalone, or do you need the base game?
Lazarus is DLC, not a standalone sequel. You must own Cronos: The New Dawn on the same platform and, for PC, the same storefront.
That means a Steam copy of the base game is required for the Steam DLC; an Epic Games Store or GOG copy does not satisfy that dependency. The same principle applies across console ecosystems: a base-game license on one platform does not grant access to the DLC on another. A physical PS5 disc or Switch 2 game card can serve as the base-game license for that console, but it does not include the digital expansion.
If you do not own the base game, budget for both purchases. For example, Steam’s US Standard Edition is listed at $59.99, or $29.99 during the Halloween offer through November 2, 2026. Add the announced $9.99 reference price for Lazarus and the current promotional route totals about $39.98 before tax, subject to live store pricing. The expansion is not yet available for purchase as of October 29, 2026, so its final checkout price and regional pricing should be confirmed when the store listing opens.
Does the Deluxe Edition include Lazarus?
No. The Deluxe Edition and its upgrade are separate from Cronos: Lazarus. Existing Deluxe owners still need to buy the expansion if they want its Pathfinder story campaign.

The current Xbox Deluxe Bonus listing specifies the base game, one Core Resource, eight pistol ammo, three shotgun ammo, two small health packs, 1,500 Energy, two unique armor skins, and a digital artbook and soundtrack. Matching contents are reported in edition guides from Deltia’s Gaming, Prima Games and GameWith. The Deluxe content is a mix of starting resources and cosmetic or digital extras; it does not add the prequel campaign, its Tracker antagonist, or the Gladius combat kit.
Steam lists the Deluxe Edition Upgrade as a separate $14.99 DLC row and Cronos: Lazarus as another add-on. For someone who already owns Standard, Deluxe is therefore optional: choose the upgrade for its listed extras, not as a way to prepay for the expansion. The Deluxe Edition also advertised 48-hour early access before the September 2025 base-game launch, but that limited launch window has passed.
Which edition should you buy?
Choose based on whether you own the base game and whether you value the Deluxe extras. There is no announced bundle that combines Deluxe with Lazarus, so paying for Deluxe does not remove the DLC purchase.
If you already own Standard
Buy Lazarus when it becomes available on your platform if you want the new campaign. Skip the Deluxe upgrade unless the armor skins, artbook, soundtrack or listed resources are worth its separate price to you. The expansion does not require a Deluxe save or edition.
If you already own Deluxe
You already have the base game and the Deluxe extras, but not the prequel expansion. Purchase Lazarus separately on the same platform or storefront as your base-game license.

If you are new to the series
Standard is the straightforward entry point. On Steam in the United States, the October 2026 Halloween sale reduces the base game from $59.99 to $29.99 through November 2; Bloober Team and Bandai Namco also announced 50% discounts on PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Nintendo eShop, with dates and duration varying by platform. The sale is a limited offer, not the normal price. If the $9.99 DLC reference price holds at release, the Steam US promotional combination would be about $39.98 before tax, versus $69.98 using Steam’s Standard list price plus the DLC reference price.
If you want physical media
Physical copies of the base game exist for PS5 and Switch 2, but Lazarus remains a digital add-on that requires the corresponding base-game license. A physical copy of The New Dawn alone does not contain the prequel campaign. Historical preorder bonuses—ammo, a health pack, Energy, an armor skin and, for physical preorders, a sticker set—were launch-window extras and should not be treated as current contents.
When does Cronos: Lazarus come out, and on which platforms?
The announced release date is December 3, 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Bloober Team and Bandai Namco give Switch 2 a Q1 2027 window, with no specific day announced.

Do not use the base game’s release date or the old “Coming Fall 2026” banner on the official Lazarus page as the expansion’s date. Bloober Team and Bandai Namco announced the December date on October 28, 2026; the Switch 2 window is later and less specific.
How much does Cronos: Lazarus cost?
Bloober Team and Bandai Namco Europe announced a $9.99 reference price for Lazarus. The Polish press release gives a 34,99 zł price. As of October 29, 2026, Steam had not published EUR, GBP or JPY prices, and its listing said the content was not yet available; regional checkout prices may therefore differ or remain unconfirmed until sale begins.

The most economical published Steam route for a new player during the sale is Standard at $29.99 followed by the expansion at its announced $9.99 reference price. That arithmetic is an estimate, not a guaranteed combined checkout total: the DLC is not yet purchasable, taxes are excluded, and only the base-game discount has an announced sale end date.
What PC requirements and storage does the DLC list?
The Steam listing gives these minimum Windows specifications for Lazarus. They match the base game’s listed Windows minimum, and the page lists 30 GB for the expansion; keep additional space available for the base game itself.

Steam prints the processor string as “i5-8400F / i5-8600K”; gaming-st.com cautions that the i5-8400F entry may be a SKU typo. Treat the displayed text as the store’s published minimum rather than a parts-buying recommendation. No Mac or Linux requirement for Lazarus is confirmed by the available Steam listing.

The advertised difference is a change in combat rhythm, not a change of genre. The base campaign emphasizes methodical survival and its merge-and-burn loop, while Lazarus is presented as more aggressive and mobile, with teleportation, decoy and the Gladius.
That toolkit suggests a different tactical emphasis: repositioning and drawing enemy attention rather than relying only on careful spacing and the base game’s dagger. It is not evidence that the expansion removes survival-horror pressure or becomes an action game. Wccftech’s Francesco De Meo, reporting from a Gamescom 2026 hands-on, said Decoy and Teleportation are designed to be used together, with cooldowns decreasing when either is used. That is a reported preview detail, not a complete account of how every encounter or ability works in the finished release.

If you want only the slower, precision-oriented base-game loop, no edition upgrade is necessary. If the Warden’s backstory and a faster combat approach are the draw, the DLC is the relevant purchase; Deluxe contents do not provide those story or gameplay additions.

What has not been announced?
Several details are still unconfirmed as of October 29, 2026, so they should not factor into a purchase as though they were established:
- No official campaign length in hours or map count.
- No complete enemy or boss list.
- No Season Pass, Complete Edition bundling Lazarus, collector’s box or figurine SKU listed by Bloober Team, Bandai Namco or Steam.
- No physical disc or cartridge for the expansion; it is announced as DLC.
- No exact Switch 2 release day within Q1 2027.
- No confirmed Mac or Linux version for the expansion.
- No complete public breakdown of all 15 Steam-supported languages in the listing available at the time.
The free Photo Mode update and Halloween Pumpkin Head skin announced for the base game in late October 2026 are separate base-game updates, not Lazarus contents.
How to decide before checkout
- Check your base-game license. Identify whether you own Cronos: The New Dawn on Steam, Epic, GOG, PS5, Xbox or Switch 2. The DLC must match that platform or storefront.
- Choose the edition for the base game, not for the DLC. Standard provides the game. Deluxe adds its listed resources and digital extras, but neither Deluxe nor its upgrade includes Lazarus.
- Check the date for your platform. PC, PS5 and Xbox are announced for December 3, 2026; Switch 2 is scheduled for Q1 2027.
- Verify live regional pricing and availability. The $9.99 amount is an announced reference price, while the Steam expansion listing was not yet purchasable on October 29. The base-game Halloween offer ends November 2 on Steam, with dates varying on other platforms.
- Decide whether the expansion’s combat shift appeals to you. It is the Pathfinder origin story with a faster, more aggressive toolkit; buy it for that added campaign rather than expecting a Deluxe cosmetic bundle.
