Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass
The Microsoft Store version is the natural fit for players using the Xbox PC app and PC Game Pass. Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog specifically says the Xbox PC app is required for its Advanced Shader Delivery guidance. Install or update that app before troubleshooting shader compilation or launch problems on the Microsoft Store build.
Steam
Steam is an official PC storefront for E-Day. Steam users should manage the game through Steam’s download and update system and use the current Steam product page for the final requirements. Cloud gaming is tied to Game Pass Ultimate in the cited Xbox launch coverage. A cloud session streams the game instead of running its rendering workload locally, so local PC specifications and graphics-driver features do not determine image rendering in the same way. Your practical constraints are a supported region, an active Ultimate subscription, a compatible device, and a stable connection with enough bandwidth and low enough latency for action gameplay.

PC graphics features and what they require
Unreal Engine 5
Xbox Wire describes E-Day as rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. That engine choice provides the technical foundation for the game’s lighting, geometry, streaming, and platform scaling, but it does not by itself guarantee a particular frame rate or visual preset on your PC. Actual results depend on the final requirements, driver version, resolution, quality settings, and whether ray tracing or upscaling is enabled.

The Xbox/NVIDIA announcement identifies NVIDIA as the exclusive PC partner and says the game launches with DLSS 4.5, ray tracing, and performance-optimization work. DLSS options are relevant to compatible NVIDIA hardware; ray tracing increases rendering workload and should be treated as an optional quality feature unless your system comfortably meets the current recommended specification. The announcement does not provide universal frame-rate figures, so avoid translating the feature list into a guaranteed performance level.
Advanced Shader Delivery
Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog says, “Gears of War: E-Day will be the first game to support ASD across the expanded Windows device ecosystem.” The announcement covers Windows 11 devices powered by AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm. It specifies graphics-driver version 2026.08.3 or higher and installation of the Xbox PC app.
Advanced Shader Delivery is intended to make precompiled shader data available across a wider range of Windows hardware. In a normal PC workflow, shaders may compile during launch or while you play, causing pauses or stutter. ASD changes how that shader data is delivered, but it does not remove the need for a compatible driver or guarantee identical behavior on every storefront.
Driver and app checklist
- Update Windows 11 before installing the game if your device has pending system updates.
- Install a graphics driver at version 2026.08.3 or newer, as specified by Microsoft’s ASD guidance.
- Install or update the Xbox PC app, which the same guidance names as a requirement.

- Install E-Day on an SSD. The official beta FAQ recommends SSD storage for the PC build.

PC requirements: what is confirmed and what can change
The official beta FAQ supplies minimum and recommended PC specifications and recommends current graphics drivers plus SSD installation. When a store page and an older beta FAQ disagree, prefer the current store listing for the build you are actually installing. A requirement is also not a performance promise: minimum hardware generally describes launchability at a lower target, while recommended hardware is the safer starting point for higher settings.
How to install and verify the update
Before downloading
- Close the game completely rather than leaving it suspended.
- Ensure the console or PC has enough free storage for the patch and temporary installation files.
- Use a wired connection or a strong wireless connection if possible, particularly for a large PC update.
- On PC, confirm that the game is installed on an SSD and that the graphics driver meets the ASD guidance.
Xbox Series X|S

Ranked Versus is missing
First confirm that the update completed on the platform you are actually using. A suspended console game, an offline Steam client, or a stale cloud session can continue running an older build. Fully quit the game, restart the storefront or console, and check the update queue again. If Ranked Versus remains absent, note the platform and build information when reporting the issue; the October report does not provide a separate mode-unlock requirement.

Handheld performance problems
The October update includes handheld hardware in its broad compatibility and optimization scope, but no device-specific settings or frame-rate targets are stated. Install the latest system and graphics updates supplied for your handheld, use the SSD installation recommended by the beta guidance, and test on both battery and plugged-in power because handheld power profiles can change performance.
