Do not connect a wallet, sign a transaction or message, download a file, run code, scan an unfamiliar QR code, or enter a password, Discord token, private key, or recovery phrase. Report the post in Discord, tell the server moderators, and then choose the response that matches what—if anything—you did.
Seeing a suspicious post is not proof that your device, Discord account, or wallet is infected. The risk changes substantially if you entered credentials, granted a wallet permission, signed a transaction, or disclosed a recovery phrase.

First response: stop the interaction and preserve a safe path
- Leave the post alone. Do not test the URL in a browser, paste it into a wallet, or scan a QR code it displays.
- Do not download “security” software, run commands, paste code into a terminal or browser console, or contact a support account promoted by the page.
- Never provide a Discord password or token, wallet private key, recovery phrase, authentication code, or seed phrase.
- Report the message inside Discord and notify a moderator. Avoid reposting the live URL where another member could click it.
- Use the service’s official app or a web address you enter yourself for any password change, wallet review, or support request.
Discord’s safety guidance specifically warns about suspicious links, unknown downloads and code, and sharing authorization tokens. Its advice is available in Protecting Against Scams on Discord.

How to report the Discord message
Use Discord’s in-app report controls rather than replying to the scammer. The exact menu can vary by platform and app version, but Discord’s Safety Library describes the message-reporting flow and moderator contact options.

- Desktop or web: open the message’s context menu (usually by right-clicking), choose Report Message, and select the category that best describes the post, such as phishing, fraud, or another deceptive practice.
- Mobile: press and hold the message, choose Report Message, and select the closest category.
- Give moderators a way to find it: copy the message link or record the server, channel, poster, and approximate time. Send that information privately to a trusted moderator instead of broadcasting the URL.
- Do not investigate by engaging: do not reply, click a profile link, accept a direct-message “support” offer, or move the conversation to another service.
Moderators can remove the post, ban the account or bot, and check whether the sender is recognized. A suspicious message does not by itself show that the entire server or every member account has been compromised.
Verify whether an “official” alert is genuine
A post may impersonate Discord, a wallet, an exchange, a game, or an airdrop campaign. Verify identity through the company’s official app or help center—not through the suspicious message.
Discord states: “Discord will never ask you for your password or account token.” Its Discord Official Messages guidance says genuine Discord messages use an OFFICIAL badge and in-app indicators. A badge or familiar-looking name is still not a reason to follow an external crypto link; open Discord’s own settings or help center independently.

Shortened URLs, urgent countdowns, claims that you must “verify” to avoid a ban, and requests to connect a wallet are warning signs. A convincing domain name is not proof of legitimacy, particularly when the message asks for an irreversible blockchain action.
If you only saw the message
Do not click it. Report the post, alert a moderator, and leave the link untouched. You do not need to run a scanner or change every password merely because the message appeared in a channel. Keep any evidence needed for a report, but do not copy the live URL into other channels or social posts.
If you clicked but entered nothing
Close the page and stop following its instructions. Do not install a file, approve a browser extension, run code, connect a wallet, sign a message, or enter credentials after the click.

A click alone does not establish that your Discord account or wallet was compromised. The evidence available here does not support diagnosing an infection from a click by itself. Escalate to one of the higher-risk branches if a file downloaded, software was installed, credentials were entered, a wallet was connected, an approval was signed, or a transaction was authorized.
If a file downloaded
Do not open it or run it. Keep the filename and download time for your own records, then use the security and support tools appropriate to your operating system and the official service involved. Do not accept a “cleanup” download or remote-access offer from the same page or from an unsolicited account.
If you entered a Discord password, token, or other account details
- Open Discord directly through the installed app or by entering its known address yourself.
- Change the password immediately and enable two-factor authentication in Discord’s official security settings. Do not use a password that is shared with another service.
- If the same password was reused elsewhere, change it on each affected service through its official site or app.
- Review account activity and connected applications using Discord’s own security controls. Remove anything you do not recognize.
- Report the original message and the sending account. Discord’s scam guidance directs users to report suspicious links and scam or phishing bots through its safety process.
Ignore new direct messages promising to “recover,” “protect,” or “verify” the account. An attacker who knows you clicked may use that event to make a second approach look credible.

If you connected a wallet
A wallet connection is not automatically a token theft. MetaMask explains in Why am I being asked to connect my wallet to a dapp? that a connection lets a decentralized application see the public address and public blockchain information. It does not, by itself, grant permission to move tokens.
- Stop interacting with the site and do not sign another message or transaction.
- Open the wallet’s official interface—not a link supplied by the Discord post—and review connected sites.
- Disconnect the suspicious site.
- Check separately whether you signed a token approval or transaction. Disconnection only ends the site connection; it does not cancel permissions already granted.
MetaMask’s explanation of approvals, What is a token approval?, notes that an approval can let a decentralized application move a specified token. If you find an unwanted approval, use the wallet’s official approval-management or revoke function. The separate How to disconnect a wallet from a dapp guidance explains why disconnecting alone is insufficient.
If you signed a transaction or message
Determine exactly what was signed. A harmless-looking message can be different from a token approval, and a transaction can transfer assets or change a contract permission. Use the wallet’s official activity view or a reputable block explorer reached independently—not a block-explorer link supplied by the suspicious page.

- Record the transaction hash, destination address, token, amount, network, and time.
- Review pending and completed activity in the wallet.
- If an approval is malicious, revoke it through official wallet tools.
- If funds moved, contact the wallet or exchange through its official support route and preserve the records for a report.
Blockchain transactions are generally irreversible. MetaMask’s I’ve been hacked or scammed guidance says it cannot reverse transactions or restore missing funds. Do not pay a stranger who promises guaranteed recovery.

Treat the wallet and every account derived from that phrase as compromised. A phrase is not a password that can safely be changed while the same wallet remains in use.
- Stop using the exposed wallet and never share the phrase again, including with someone claiming to be wallet support.
- Using a separate browser profile or another device, create a brand-new wallet and record its new recovery material offline.
- If it is safe to do so, move remaining assets to the new wallet. Check addresses and network carefully before confirming.
- Stop using all accounts derived from the exposed phrase. Follow the wallet provider’s official instructions because interfaces and asset-transfer steps vary.
- Preserve transaction identifiers and report any loss through the provider’s official support channel and the appropriate authorities.
MetaMask’s compromised-wallet guidance states that ongoing risk can remain and that it cannot recover missing funds. Never publish a recovery phrase, private key, password, or authentication code as evidence.

Reporting a loss or escalating outside Discord
For US residents, the Federal Trade Commission accepts cryptocurrency-fraud and suspicious-activity reports at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If money was lost, also use the affected wallet or exchange’s official support route and the relevant local authority in your jurisdiction.
Keep the Discord message link, screenshots, server and channel names, sender information, wallet addresses, network, transaction IDs, and timestamps. Do not include secrets in those materials. A moderator may need the original message link to remove related posts or identify additional victims.
Discord’s Deceptive Practices Policy Explainer is dated August 29, 2025 and identifies financial scams and phishing as prohibited deceptive practices. Reporting controls and policy wording can change, so use the live in-app labels when submitting a report.
