You must approach and interact with every piece: a polar bear, a hanging plant, a wall lantern, potion bottles, and a pedestal. Looking at an item or walking past it is not enough; the quest advances only when all five interaction prompts have been activated.
What the objective is actually asking you to do
The Rescue Mission objective is an inspection task, not a collection task. Nothing has to be picked up, placed in your inventory, or carried to another room. Each green decoration remains in the lair, and the game records progress when you stand close enough for its interaction prompt to appear and then use the displayed interact command.

All five required objects are on the first floor. If you have gone upstairs, searched a different wing, or left the Mirror Lair, return to the first-floor room before checking your count. The objects can look different from one another: some are bright neon green, while others are darker and easier to overlook against the lair’s walls and furniture.

Use the permanent landmarks in the room rather than trying to spot five identical glowing objects. The following table gives the exact search points.

The table describes the five-object set for this objective. If you find a similar decoration elsewhere in the lair but it is not one of these five positions, it is not part of the required count.
A reliable route through the room
A fixed route prevents you from circling randomly and makes it easier to identify which interaction you have missed. Start at the entrance to the first floor and work around the room in one direction.

- Check the left couch. Walk to the couch in the left corner, close to the stairs that lead toward Oogie Boogie’s wheel. Move around the front and side of the couch until the prompt appears on the green animal sitting there. Activate it before moving on.
- Sweep the left stairwell. From the couch, inspect the staircase itself and the narrow space beside and behind it. The hanging plant is tucked into this area, so it may be hidden when you approach from the open floor.
- Follow the left wall. Continue toward the Snake and Spider Stew counter. Look up at the wall or supporting pillar near the red and purple skeletons. The lantern is mounted rather than sitting on the floor, so change your camera angle if the prompt does not show immediately.
- Cross your view toward the lava pit. Move to the counter behind the large central lava pit. The cash register is the useful reference point; inspect the potion bottles on that counter and trigger their prompt.
- Finish in the right corner. Walk to the corner with a couch and crafting station. Search the floor-level area around that furniture for the pedestal, then interact with it.
After each activation, pause long enough for the game to register the interaction. If you are unsure whether one counted, leave the object and approach it again; a prompt that reappears can be activated once more without changing the route.

The quest uses proximity plus an explicit interaction. Stand close to the decoration, adjust your position until the on-screen interaction prompt appears, and press the button or key shown by your platform. A camera view that merely places the object in the center of the screen does not complete the step.

- Close the distance. If there is no prompt, walk directly toward the object. Decorative geometry, couches, counters, and stairs can leave you a little too far away even when the item looks within reach.
- Change your angle. Circle the couch, stairwell, wall, or counter. The interaction point may be on the side facing a passage rather than the side from which you first see the decoration.
- Use the displayed control. Do not assume the command is the same on every platform or control scheme. Follow the button or key the game displays when you are in range.
- Wait for the response. Let the interaction animation or quest update finish before sprinting to the next object. Rapidly moving away can make it unclear whether the prompt was accepted.
- Track five completed inspections. Seeing an item is not evidence that it counted. Treat an object as complete only after you have activated its prompt.
What to check when one piece seems absent
You are searching the wrong floor
The required set is confined to the first floor. A staircase can make the lair feel like one continuous search area, but an upper-floor decoration will not substitute for a missing first-floor item. Return to the main first-floor space and use the five landmarks in the table.
The object blends into the environment
Color is an imperfect search tool. The green pieces do not all have the same brightness, and a darker object can merge with the lair’s wood, stone, or shadowed corners. Search by furniture and room features: left couch, left stairwell, stew counter and skeletons, cash register behind the lava pit, then the right couch and crafting station.

The object is visible but has no prompt
Walk in a small circle around it instead of repeatedly pressing the interaction button from one spot. For the wall-mounted lantern, move along the wall or pillar and adjust the camera upward. For the plant, check both sides of the staircase. For the couch and pedestal, approach from the open side of the room if nearby furniture blocks your first angle.
The objective still shows incomplete
Recheck your interaction count rather than assuming the last item registered. The game advances only after all five inspections are recorded. Start with the location you may have passed most quickly, then revisit every landmark in order and activate any prompt that appears. A second inspection of an already completed piece does not replace the missing one, so continue until each of the five positions has been deliberately checked.

You cannot tell which item was missed
Use a written or mental checklist with the five positions: left couch, left stairs, left wall by the stew counter, counter behind the lava pit, and right corner by the crafting station. Mark a position only after the interaction prompt has been used. This avoids relying on memory of what you happened to see while entering the room.

The wording about odd or missing décor can suggest that the pieces have been removed from the room. In this quest, “missing” refers to the investigation objective: the decorations are present, but you must inspect them. Their unusual green appearance is the visual clue that they belong to the task, while their positions among ordinary furniture make them easy to overlook.
The room also contains strong visual distractions. The central lava pit divides the floor, the stew counter and skeletons draw attention to the left wall, and the stairs create a narrow pocket where the hanging plant can be hidden. Treat each landmark as a separate search zone instead of trying to scan the entire room from the entrance.

What happens after all five inspections
Once every interaction has registered, the Rescue Mission objective can progress. Return to the active quest sequence and continue the confrontation with Oogie Boogie about the Ghosties in the glowing décor. If the confrontation does not trigger immediately, make sure the fifth interaction finished and that you are still following the Rescue Mission objective rather than another quest.
You do not need a physical item, a special tool, or a purchase to complete this part. It is an in-game navigation and interaction check, so changing your route and confirming each prompt addresses the problem.
