First identify which limit you reached. Xbox Cloud Gaming can be stopped by a Microsoft Family Safety daily allowance, while Microsoft’s announced Game Pass changes will add monthly cloud-play allowances beginning in November 2026. Those are separate controls with different fixes.
As of October 20, 2026, Microsoft has not published the exact reset schedule, prices for extra cloud time, package sizes, eligible games, remaining-time display, or every market covered by the November change. Use the account and Family Safety checks below before assuming your subscription has expired or your controller is at fault.

Two different limits can produce an hour-limit message
The wording on screen does not by itself tell you whether Microsoft has stopped cloud streaming because of a subscription allowance or because a family organizer set a time restriction. Check both possibilities in order.

Microsoft announced on September 3, 2026 that cloud gaming would be included differently in Game Pass beginning in November. The announcement describes a monthly allowance for each tier:

Microsoft also said that eligible Game Pass subscribers could stream without these monthly hour limits at the time of the announcement. Therefore, a subscriber seeing a block before the November rollout should not automatically assume the new allowance has already been consumed. Verify the date, region, account and plan first.
Family Safety daily allowance
Microsoft Family Safety lets a family organizer impose a daily allowance or schedule for Windows, Xbox and mobile use. It can stop a child account after the organizer’s selected amount of time, even when the Game Pass subscription itself still has cloud access. A one-hour message is consistent with a one-hour family setting, but Microsoft’s documentation does not establish a universal one-hour cloud-gaming cap for every account.
Check your account before changing anything
- Confirm the signed-in Microsoft account. On the console, browser or Xbox app, make sure the account attempting to start the stream is the one that owns, or is entitled through, the Game Pass subscription. A family member can be signed in while a different account holds the plan.
- Confirm the Game Pass tier. The announced monthly allowances differ by Ultimate, Premium and Essential. Record the tier shown in your Microsoft account rather than relying on a console profile name or a shared household assumption.
- Check whether the November model is active for you. Microsoft announced a November 2026 start, not a single universal timestamp for every country. A block seen before the change reaches your market needs a different explanation from a block seen after the allowance system is active.
- Look for a Family Safety restriction. If the account is in a family group, ask the organizer to inspect the Xbox settings. A daily allowance can be active independently of cloud entitlement.
- Keep the message and account details for support. If the account, plan, region and family settings all look correct, note the exact error text and contact Microsoft Support rather than buying hardware or changing subscriptions blindly.
How to remove a Family Safety time limit
Only the family organizer or the person who manages the family group can change a member’s allowance. The controls are available in the Microsoft Family Safety app and on the Family Safety website.

Using the Microsoft Family Safety app
- Open the Microsoft Family Safety app while signed in as the family organizer.
- Select the affected family member.
- Choose Windows/Xbox/Mobile.
- Open Apps, features, and games.
- Find the relevant Xbox or gaming entry and adjust the daily allowance or schedule. Remove the restriction only if that matches the household’s rules; otherwise choose a longer permitted period.
- Have the affected account sign in again and test cloud gaming after the organizer saves the change. If the restriction remains, check that the organizer edited the same family member and the same Microsoft account used on the Xbox device.
Using the web dashboard
- Go to account.microsoft.com/family and sign in as the family organizer.
- Select the family member whose Xbox access is blocked.
- Open the Windows/Xbox/Mobile controls and then Apps, features, and games.
- Change the daily allowance or schedule, save it, and retry with the affected account.
Family Safety is an account-level control. Replacing a controller, headset, console or network accessory will not remove it, and Microsoft’s documented steps do not identify any accessory as a way to restore time.
What changes when the monthly cloud allowance is exhausted?
Under Microsoft’s announced November 2026 model, cloud hours are attached to the Game Pass tier rather than being an unlimited benefit for eligible subscribers. Once the allowance for the applicable period is used, Microsoft says subscribers will be able to purchase additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store.
The announcement does not yet state the price, the number of hours in a package, whether packages expire, which games qualify, or whether every market will receive the same purchase choices. It also does not publish a universal reset day or time. Do not rely on a social-media claim about a midnight reset or a fixed top-up price unless Microsoft shows that information in your account or a later official notice.

What to do when a purchase option appears
- Open the Xbox Store from the account that received the limit message.
- Look for the cloud-playtime option Microsoft makes available for your market and tier.
- Read the displayed quantity, expiration terms, eligible-game restrictions and final price before confirming.
- After purchase, return to cloud gaming with the same Microsoft account. If the entitlement does not appear, keep the receipt and contact Microsoft Support.
If the Xbox Store shows no additional-time option, that does not prove the feature is broken. Microsoft said availability and purchasing options may vary by market, and the published announcement did not promise that every region would expose the same products simultaneously.
Does Game Pass Ultimate still include unlimited cloud gaming?
Not as a permanent assumption. Microsoft said eligible subscribers could stream without the announced monthly limits at the time of its September 3, 2026 announcement, then announced a November change that lists a 15-hour monthly allowance for Ultimate. Whether the new model is already active depends on rollout timing and market. Check the entitlement displayed for your account instead of treating the old unlimited behavior as guaranteed.
When do Xbox cloud hours reset?
Microsoft has described the new allowances as monthly, but it has not published the exact reset mechanics in the announcement: there is no confirmed calendar day, time zone, billing-cycle rule or remaining-time counter documented there. Your account may later show those details when the feature is enabled. Until then, a message saying you have no hours left cannot be used to infer a specific reset date.

A Family Safety allowance is a separate daily control. Its schedule is set by the family organizer, so its next available period follows that organizer-defined setting rather than the Game Pass monthly allowance.

The wrong account is active
Cloud access can be associated with one Microsoft account while another profile is launching the stream. Sign out of the service where necessary, identify the account that owns the subscription, and test with that account. Do not purchase extra time until this check is complete.
The subscription tier is different from the one you expected
A household may have changed tiers, allowed a subscription to lapse, or assigned access through a different account. Because the announced allowances are tier-specific, verify the plan in the account page and compare it with the tier shown in Microsoft’s current service information.

A family rule is being mistaken for a cloud allowance
A daily limit can trigger after a short session and can affect a child account even when another member still has cloud hours. The organizer should inspect the Family Safety member profile, device category and schedule rather than changing the Game Pass plan.
The November rollout has reached your market
After the new model is enabled, a previously normal streaming session can end because the monthly allowance is depleted. Microsoft announced the policy change for November 2026 but did not provide one global activation moment. Compare the date of the message with the rollout status shown to your account.
Regional or game eligibility rules apply
Microsoft warned that available hours, purchase options and features may vary by market, and it had not published the complete eligible-game list in the announcement. A game or purchase path that appears for one account or country may not appear for another.

Contact Microsoft Support when the limit appears despite all of these conditions:
- The correct Microsoft account is signed in.
- The account’s Game Pass tier is active and understood.
- No Family Safety organizer has set a daily allowance or schedule that explains the block.
- The message appears before the announced November rollout reaches your market, or the displayed allowance conflicts with the entitlement shown in your account.
- An Xbox Store top-up was purchased but the time was not credited.
Include the exact message, account region, Game Pass tier, date and approximate time, device, and whether the account is part of a family group. The Family Safety guidance directs users to Microsoft Support for technical help. Support can determine whether the issue is an entitlement, rollout, account or service problem; accessories cannot resolve those account-level causes.
