Expect a live concert built around game music, but not necessarily a conventional orchestra recital. Depending on the production, you may hear an orchestra, choir, or smaller ensemble while game footage, lighting, soloists, electronic percussion, special effects, and audience interaction share the stage. Some concerts survey music from many franchises; others recreate the soundtrack and visual world of one game.
The details that matter most—running time, age suitability, setlist, photography, costumes, seating, and extras—belong to the specific production and venue. Use the event’s official listing as the final authority, because a large multimedia show and a single-game concert can offer very different evenings.

What is a video game music concert actually like?
It is a live performance of music written or arranged for games, presented with the scale and staging of a concert event. The musical forces can range from a full symphony orchestra and choir to a smaller specialist ensemble. The presentation may add synchronized game footage, projection screens, theatrical lighting, guest soloists, electronic percussion, sound effects, and audience-participation moments.
Video Games Live describes its show as a multimedia production combining orchestral and choral performance with video, lighting, soloists, and interactive segments. Its own FAQ likens the atmosphere to a rock concert combined with orchestral music and game visuals. That description applies to that production, not automatically to every concert advertised as video-game music.

Other events use a more focused format. The Witcher in Concert presents music from The Witcher 3 with a 14-musician ensemble and visuals from the game. The Music of Square Enix listing promises symphonic arrangements with high-definition game visuals. In practice, the title of the event is only a starting point: read the production description to see whether you are buying an orchestral showcase, a cinematic presentation, or a single-game experience.
Will the concert feature many games or focus on one?
Both formats are common. A touring multimedia production can move between numerous franchises, while a themed concert may stay with one game, one series, or one publisher’s catalogue.

| Format | What you may see and hear | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Multi-game showcase | Arrangements from several games, often with changing visuals, guest performers, choir, lighting, and interactive sections. | Whether the local performance publishes a program or only a broad production description; the exact sequence may vary. |
| Single-game concert | A continuous presentation centered on one title, such as The Witcher 3, with a smaller ensemble or specially staged arrangement. | Which game edition or story period is represented and whether mature scenes appear on the screen. |
| Publisher or series concert | Music drawn from a defined catalogue, such as a publisher’s major franchises, with symphonic treatment and projected footage. | Which entries are included at your date and whether the listing names guest artists or a choir. |
A familiar game is not guaranteed to appear simply because it belongs to the same publisher or genre. If one soundtrack is the reason you want to attend, look for a published program or a production page that names it rather than relying on the event’s general branding.
How long is a video game music concert?
There is no category-wide runtime. The Video Games Live FAQ estimates approximately two and a half hours including a 15–20 minute intermission, while warning that local orchestras, venues, and promoters can affect the length. A venue may also list the start or finish time as approximate.
The same FAQ describes approximately 18–20 different segments in a performance and says the production has created more than 200 segments in its overall catalogue. Those are production-specific figures: the 200-plus figure is not the number played in one evening, and neither figure is a standard for every video game concert.

| Timing question | Best answer |
|---|---|
| When do doors open? | Use the individual venue or presenter listing; it can differ from the advertised performance start. |
| How long is the show? | Check the local listing. Video Games Live’s approximate two-and-a-half-hour estimate includes its intermission and should not be applied to other productions. |
| Is there an intermission? | Many large productions schedule one, but confirm it for your date rather than assuming. |
| Is the setlist fixed? | Not necessarily. Video Games Live says performances can differ, so a previous city’s program is not a promise about yours. |
Allow extra time for parking, security, finding your seat, and any post-show activity. If you need a firm end time for a train, childcare, or another booking, ask the venue or presenter rather than calculating from the nominal start alone.
Are video game concerts suitable for children?
Age guidance is event-specific. Video Games Live presents itself as family oriented and says it is intended for gamers and non-gamers, but that does not create a universal age rating for the entire concert category.
For example, the Utah Symphony Video Games Live listing gives a general guideline of age five and older and asks parents to consider whether a child can sit quietly through the performance. By contrast, The Witcher in Concert recommends an audience over 16 because scenes from the mature-rated game are included.
- Read the exact age recommendation on the event page, not only the tour name.
- Look for content notes when the concert uses footage from a mature-rated game.
- Consider whether a child can remain seated and attentive through the listed running time.
- Check whether the venue has separate rules for infants, booster seats, or lap seating.
Parents should treat the concert’s visuals as part of the content decision. A child who is comfortable with a game’s soundtrack may still be unprepared for its projected action or story scenes.
What should I wear to a video game music concert?
There is usually no single costume requirement for the category. Dress for the venue and the production: a formal concert hall may feel more polished, while a multimedia touring show can have a relaxed, fan-focused atmosphere. Comfortable clothing and shoes are practical because you may queue, walk through a large venue, and remain seated for several hours.

Cosplay can be welcome at some events, but never assume that every prop is permitted. Review the venue’s costume, bag, and security rules before bringing armor, replica equipment, large accessories, or anything that could obstruct another guest’s view. The Utah listing, for example, prohibits imitation or replica weapons as costume props and notes that attendees may be searched. That is a local rule, not a universal concert policy.
Where should I sit for the best experience?
There is no universally superior seat because sightlines, screen placement, orchestra layout, acoustics, and ticket pricing vary by venue. Video Games Live says audiences and promoters often recommend roughly five to 20 rows back in the center or the front rows of a balcony, but its FAQ also stresses that every venue is different.
Use the seating chart for the exact performance. Center sections usually give the most balanced view of both musicians and screens; a balcony can provide a wider view of projections; and seats very close to the stage may emphasize performers while making a large screen harder to take in at once. If accessibility, an aisle, or a quick exit matters, select those features directly through the venue’s accessible-seating or ticketing options instead of choosing only by distance from the stage.
Can I take photos or record video?
Photography rules belong to the venue and the promoter. Video Games Live says personal photos or video are permitted in principle, while warning that some venues and symphonies prohibit them. The venue’s policy takes precedence for the performance you attend.
- Read the event page and the venue’s camera or recording policy before you leave.
- Turn off flash unless the venue explicitly permits it; bright light can disrupt performers and other guests.
- Keep a phone or camera below the sightline of people behind you and follow any request to stop recording.
- Do not assume that a policy for one tour date applies at another orchestra or arena.
If you want a permanent record, check whether the presenter sells an official recording or publishes approved clips. A personal recording policy does not guarantee that the whole show may be filmed.

What should I check before leaving home?
Event pages can change, and practical rules are often published by the venue rather than the touring production. Complete this check on the day of the concert:
- Confirm the date and location. Verify the official venue, start time, door time, and the route to the correct entrance.
- Read the current program information. A listing may identify a single-game presentation, a broad multi-game production, or a program that remains subject to change.
- Check age and content guidance. This is especially important when projected scenes come from a mature-rated game.
- Review photography and recording rules. Follow the venue even if the tour’s general FAQ sounds more permissive.
- Review late-seating, accessibility, bag, costume, and prop policies. These determine what you can bring and how staff can seat you after the music begins.
- Save your ticket and entry instructions. Keep the ticketing email available in case the venue uses a particular gate, mobile-ticket process, or security procedure.
Use the official presenter, orchestra, or venue ticketing page for the selected date. Video Games Live says pricing varies by city, venue, orchestra or choir, and production costs, so examples on a general FAQ are not current quotes for your performance.
Are VIP packages and meet-and-greets included?
They are optional and production-specific. Video Games Live describes a free post-show meet-and-greet for its ticket holders and a limited paid VIP experience, but those offerings should not be assumed for another concert or even every local date on the same tour.
Read the selected date’s ticket terms to determine whether a package includes early entry, a photo opportunity, merchandise, a special seating area, or a post-show meeting. If the listing does not name an extra, treat it as unavailable rather than planning around a promise from a different city.

| Decision factor | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Scope | Does the program cover many games, one title, a series, or a publisher catalogue? |
| Musical forces | Is it a full orchestra and choir, a 14-musician ensemble, or another arrangement? |
| Visual production | Will you see high-definition game footage, synchronized lighting, theatrical effects, or a primarily traditional concert setup? |
| Program certainty | Is a soundtrack or setlist published, or does the production say the segments can change? |
| Age and content | Does the venue set a minimum age or warn about mature scenes? |
| Timing | What are the doors, start time, estimated finish, and intermission details? |
| Attendance rules | What are the photography, late-seating, accessibility, bag, costume, and prop policies? |
| Price and extras | What does the selected date charge, and are VIP access or a meet-and-greet actually listed? |
This approach prevents a common mismatch: buying a ticket for a visually intensive single-game concert when you wanted a broad orchestral survey, or expecting a fixed favorite-game setlist from a production that deliberately changes its segments.
What will the atmosphere be like if I am not a longtime gamer?
You do not need encyclopedic game knowledge to follow the musical performance. Video Games Live explicitly describes its audience as including gamers and non-gamers, and the music is presented as a concert arrangement rather than as a requirement to understand every plot detail.

A single-game concert may assume familiarity with its world, while a multi-game show can jump between contrasting moods and styles. Can I keep listening after the concert?
The official Video Games Live homepage promotes the LEVEL 6 album and a limited-edition double-vinyl release. The available listing information does not establish that the vinyl is the same edition as LEVEL 6, nor does it show that a particular retail listing is available. Treat a studio album as a separate way to hear the music, not as a guaranteed recording of the variable live setlist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have played the featured game to enjoy the concert?
No. Video Games Live says its presentation is intended for both gamers and non-gamers, so prior gameplay is not a stated requirement. If you are unfamiliar with the title, read the event description to understand how much of the evening depends on its projected story scenes.
What does “program subject to change” mean for my favorite soundtrack?
It means the production may alter the order or selection of segments for your city, even when the tour uses the same broad format. A song mentioned in promotional material is not a guarantee that it will be performed at every date.

Where can I find the rules that apply to my exact seat and venue?
Start with the venue’s own event page and ticket terms, then check the presenter’s listing for updates. Venue guidance controls photography, late seating, bags, accessibility, costumes, and props when it differs from a general tour FAQ.
Is a concert album the same thing as attending the show?
No. A recorded album offers a fixed listening experience, while the live production can combine music with projections, lighting, guest performers, and a changing selection of segments. The official Video Games Live site lists albums separately from its concert dates.
