Before you buy, compare the exact campaigns, activities, dungeon access, and passes included in the live Destiny 2 store listing with what you want to play—and check which items you already own. Bungie’s current guide says the Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns are available to all players, while other campaigns and activities may require a paid expansion or Dungeon Key. A purchase now grants access to existing content: Bungie says there will be no planned live-service content updates after June 9, 2026, though stability hotfixes may still be issued.
Start with what you want to play
Destiny 2 is not a simple choice between “free” and “paid.” Its free baseline includes the Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns, according to Bungie’s available-content guide, as well as a range of free activities and systems. The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, The Edge of Fate, and Renegades are paid campaigns; introductory missions are available to free players.

Paid content can unlock its associated campaign and activities, but owning an expansion does not automatically grant every dungeon entitlement. Bungie says access to some raids and dungeons still requires the corresponding expansion or a Dungeon Key. Check the activity’s access requirement, not just the name of the expansion or bundle.

A good first question is not “Which edition is biggest?” but “What do I want to launch?” If the answer is a campaign, check the expansion that grants that campaign. If it is a particular dungeon, look specifically for its Dungeon Key or other stated entitlement. If you are shopping for a group, each player should check their own account access: one person owning a pack does not establish that another account can use it, and Bungie says Dungeon Keys cannot be game shared.
The free introductory missions can help you sample the current paid campaigns, but they are not the same thing as owning the full campaign. Use them to decide whether a story or setting interests you, then confirm the full campaign’s purchase requirement before checkout. Likewise, seeing a raid or dungeon named in a bundle description does not tell you, by itself, which component grants access. The product listing and Bungie’s access requirements are the details to compare.
What The Collection lists
Bungie’s Collection page lists the following components. The exact bundle contents and availability should be confirmed in the live listing for your platform and region.

Read those labels as a contents checklist rather than as a promise that every listed item is useful to every buyer. The Collection combines different kinds of entitlements: named campaigns or expansions, content packs, Reward Passes, and access to selected activities. If you only want one campaign, the presence of many other items may not make a bundle a better deal. If you want several components you do not own, the bundle may be a convenient way to compare them together—but check the current total against the price of those specific items separately.
Already-owned content matters in that comparison. Make a list of your owned expansions and packs before looking at the final price, then check whether the storefront’s offer still makes sense for the remaining content. Bungie’s available guides do not establish one universal “best value” option, and Bungie says components can also be acquired separately. Regional pricing, platform storefronts, bundle contents, and your existing entitlements all affect the comparison.

The Collection page says Dungeon Keys provide access to specified dungeons. Do not assume that any one expansion purchase includes every dungeon in the list; verify which key or entitlement covers the activity you want.
That distinction is worth checking even if a dungeon appears beside an expansion in a store description. Bungie’s add-on guide describes keys tied to specific years and says a key can be included in an expansion Deluxe Edition or sold separately. The live product listing should tell you what is bundled with the current offer. Confirm the exact dungeon name, whether the relevant key is included, and whether the key is attached to the account and platform you plan to use.

Bungie’s Collection page also identifies Vault of Glass, Crota’s End, and King’s Fall raids, plus the Prophecy dungeon, as available to all players.
Use that free-activity list as a useful boundary when comparing purchases: not every raid or dungeon requires buying a bundle. But do not generalize that status to every activity. Bungie specifically says access to certain raids and dungeons continues to require their corresponding expansion or Dungeon Key, so check each target activity individually.
Choose between a standalone item, add-ons, and the Collection
Bungie says Collection components can also be acquired separately through a storefront of your choice. A bundle is not automatically the cheapest way to obtain a particular subset: the value depends on what you want, what you already own, and the current platform and regional prices.

Use this sequence before checkout:
- Pick the content. Write down the campaign, raid, dungeon, or pass you intend to play. A specific activity is a more useful starting point than a bundle name.
- Check your entitlements. Review your platform library and account to avoid paying again for content you already own.
- Open the live product listing. Confirm that the desired item appears in the included-content list for the edition or bundle being sold.
- Check dungeon access separately. If a dungeon is the goal, confirm whether its key is included or must be bought separately.
- Compare the actual checkout totals. Prices vary by platform and region, and separate components may be sold individually. No universal price comparison applies.
- Consider the game’s update status. Buy for access to existing content, not on the assumption that planned live-service releases will continue.
For a practical comparison, use the same target list for every option you inspect. For example, if you want one campaign and one dungeon, check the standalone expansion, the separate dungeon key, and any bundle that lists both. Compare what is included—not just the product title—and then compare the total at checkout. If you want only the campaign, a bundle that adds passes or packs may not fit your needs even if its headline price looks attractive. If you already own some of the listed content, account for that before deciding.

Storefront details can also affect the decision. Bungie says the Collection components can be acquired separately in a storefront of your choice, but it does not establish a single price or availability that applies to every region and platform. Check the store where you intend to play, verify the account that will receive the purchase, and review the final checkout amount. Avoid relying on an old price, a listing for a different platform, or a bundle description that may have changed.
Dungeon Keys: purchase routes and limits
Bungie’s add-on support guide says Dungeon Keys may be included in expansion Deluxe Editions or bought separately. It describes separate purchase through Eververse, Hawthorne in the Tower, or a dungeon node on the Destinations map for 2,000 Silver. That price and those routes come from Bungie’s support guide; because the examples and names may reflect older releases, confirm that the current key and purchase route are available in your platform’s live listing before buying.
A Dungeon Key is an account entitlement, not a general game-sharing license. Bungie says keys can travel with an account through Cross Save but cannot be game shared. If a key came with an expansion bundle, Bungie warns that you may need to log in on the platform where you bought that bundle to access it.

Readers asking whether they can buy only the keys should first check the specific dungeon’s live activity requirement and the current add-on options for their platform. Bungie’s support guide describes standalone keys as an option, but its route and 2,000-Silver price should be verified at the time of purchase. Do not assume that the key for one dungeon unlocks every dungeon, that every storefront carries the same route, or that a key included with a bundle behaves exactly like a separately purchased add-on.
Silver is not a universal cross-game balance. Bungie says it is purchased with real money through platform marketplaces or Eververse and used for Eververse items. Its guide lists Destiny 2 Silver marketplace support for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store. Bungie also says Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 Silver balances do not transfer between releases. Before spending, make sure the currency purchase is for Destiny 2 and the relevant platform account.
Set up Cross Save before launching on another platform
If you are moving between platforms and have a Dungeon Key included with an expansion bundle, activate Cross Save fully before logging into Destiny 2 on the platform where that bundle was purchased. Bungie warns that logging in first may cause the key to be lost. This is a specific risk for bundled keys; do not assume that every DLC license follows the same Cross Save rules.
Before switching platforms, check which account owns the expansion, whether the desired entitlement is a bundle-included key, and whether the platform you plan to use recognizes it. Bungie’s support guidance distinguishes account access from game sharing, so another player using your platform’s shared library should not be expected to inherit a Dungeon Key.
If your question is specifically “Can I buy just the dungeon keys through Xbox?” Bungie’s guide describes separate purchase through Eververse, Hawthorne, or a dungeon map node for 2,000 Silver, but it does not establish a universal current Xbox listing or price. Confirm the key’s name and entitlement at checkout rather than assuming the route described in an older support example still appears exactly the same way.

Cross Save lets a player use their account across supported platforms, but it does not mean every DLC license transfers. Bungie’s warning about Dungeon Keys acquired through expansion bundles is especially important: follow its account-setup guidance before launching on the purchase platform, and check the specific license behavior for the content and storefront involved.
Think of these as separate questions: which account has the character and progress; which platform account bought a particular add-on; and whether the specific entitlement is recognized on the platform where you are playing. Bungie says keys can travel with an account through Cross Save, but it also documents a special caution for keys included in expansion bundles and states that keys cannot be game shared. Do not use the fact that you can access your account on another platform as proof that every expansion or add-on license has transferred.

For Silver purchases, Bungie lists marketplace support for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Microsoft Store, and Epic Games Store. Silver is bought with real money through platform marketplaces or Eververse and used for Eververse items. Bungie says Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 Silver balances do not transfer between releases. Check the correct Destiny release and platform before buying currency; do not assume a balance from one game carries into the other.
Do not use Silver as a shortcut for estimating a bundle’s value. The support guide’s 2,000-Silver figure applies to its described Dungeon Key route, not as a universal price for all Destiny 2 content or every key at every date. Expansion and bundle prices should be checked directly in the relevant storefront, including region and platform. No named sales or player-count statistic from Bungie’s available guides helps determine which option is best, so the useful comparison is the entitlement list and your own checkout total.

Bungie’s Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph and Update 9.7.0 Support Guide states: “Following the release of Update 9.7.0 on June 9, 2026, Destiny 2 will no longer receive planned live-service content updates.” Bungie says it may still release hotfixes for game health and stability. It also says content available as of Update 9.5.6.3 and content added in Update 9.7.0 will be available on and after June 9, 2026.
That announcement changes how to assess future value: a purchase should be based on the existing campaigns and activities you want to access, rather than an expectation of future planned live-service content updates. It does not remove ownership checks. Bungie says specific raid and dungeon activities still require their corresponding expansions or Dungeon Keys.
“No planned live-service content updates” should not be read as “everything is free” or “purchased entitlements no longer matter.” Bungie says it may issue stability hotfixes, and its guide says certain raids and dungeons still require their matching expansion or Dungeon Key. The practical buying question is therefore narrower: are the existing campaigns and activities in the offer worth accessing to you under the announced update plan? Consider your own interest in the content already listed, not an assumed schedule of future releases.
The announcement also gives a concrete timeframe for that framing: Bungie names June 9, 2026, the release date of Update 9.7.0, and says content available as of Update 9.5.6.3 plus content added in 9.7.0 will be available on and after that date. That is the stated availability guidance; it is not a promise of future expansions or planned live-service updates. When you compare editions, rely on the product’s current list of existing content and avoid treating the word “Collection” as evidence of future content beyond what Bungie lists.
If a purchase does not appear in the game
If you paid for content but cannot access it, first make sure you are using the correct platform account and the correct Destiny 2 account setup. Then use Bungie’s platform-specific license restoration and support guidance; the available recovery path depends on where the content was purchased. For a bundle-included Dungeon Key, also account for Bungie’s guidance about logging into the original purchase platform.

If the item is present in your purchase history but not accessible in-game, use the instructions for the platform where you bought it before making another purchase.

No. Bungie warns that Cross Save does not mean every DLC license transfers. Dungeon Keys can travel with an account, but keys included in expansion bundles have a specific platform-login warning. Activate Cross Save fully before logging into Destiny 2 on the platform where you purchased such a bundle.
