The $20 difference is an upfront payment for the Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Standard buyers can purchase that upgrade later through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefronts, so choosing Standard does not permanently prevent access to the Ultimate content. If you buy a physical Standard copy, redeem its download code before attempting the upgrade.

Standard Edition
Standard delivers the base game and the main preorder package. It is sold digitally and as a physical box containing a download code rather than a game disc. The Vintage Vice City Pack is included with digital preorders and purchases of either edition made before November 20, 2026, subject to the offer rules. Physical preorders receive the pack while the retailer’s supply lasts.

Buying Standard first and upgrading later
The Ultimate Edition Upgrade can be bought after release, or after purchasing Standard, through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefront. For a physical Standard purchase, redeem the code from the box before buying the upgrade so the platform can associate the base game with your account. The later upgrade is digital, so a physical Standard owner still uses the code-in-box copy as the underlying license.
Preorder bonuses and GTA+ conditions
Vintage Vice City Pack
The Vintage Vice City Pack contains a ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. Rockstar’s support terms distinguish digital and physical supply:
- Digital: Preorders and purchases of either edition made before November 20, 2026 include the pack.
- Physical: Preorders include the pack while the individual retailer’s supply lasts.
That “while supplies last” condition means a physical preorder is not an unconditional guarantee if a retailer runs out of allocated bonus codes or materials. Check the retailer’s listing before paying, especially if the pack is the main reason you want a boxed copy.

One month of GTA+
The GTA+ month is tied to the account used for the purchase. On PlayStation, the offer is non-transferable, limited to that purchasing account, and must be claimed by March 31, 2027. After the promotional month, the subscription continues at the regular monthly price unless it is canceled. Set a reminder to cancel before renewal if you do not want a paid subscription.

Xbox states that its offer must be redeemed within 180 days of placing the preorder and is limited to one redemption per platform account. The PlayStation and Xbox deadlines are therefore different: use the rule for the platform on which you bought the game, not the other platform’s date.
Physical versus digital GTA 6
A physical GTA VI release is a box containing a digital download code. There is no disc to install, lend, resell as physical media, or use offline independently of the platform account that redeems the code. The practical difference is packaging and purchase channel, not a disc-based installation.

Digital preload begins November 12 at local midnight, and the game is scheduled to launch on November 19. Rockstar expects physical copies to ship or become available for pickup from November 12 so buyers can redeem the code and preload. A retailer’s delivery delay could still prevent access on launch day, so digital is the lower-risk choice if immediate launch access matters.
If you are shopping for a Grand Theft Auto VI PS5 physical edition, treat it as a code-in-box product. Confirm that the code’s country matches your PlayStation account and read the seller’s cancellation terms before ordering. The packaging does not provide a disc-based fallback if the code is incompatible or the retailer shipment is late.

There is no single Rockstar refund policy covering every preorder channel. The seller that processed the transaction controls the applicable cancellation and refund process.

PlayStation and Xbox storefront purchases
For purchases made directly through the PlayStation or Xbox storefront, Rockstar directs buyers to the relevant platform support team. Eligibility can depend on country, account status, whether a download or code has been redeemed, and the platform’s preorder rules. Open the platform’s current refund terms before redeeming a code or allowing the download to begin; redemption can affect eligibility.
Other retailers
If you ordered from a retailer other than a platform storefront, contact that retailer for purchase, refund, delivery, and cancellation questions. Retailers may set different deadlines for physical code-in-box orders, and a retailer’s preorder guarantee does not automatically transfer to another seller.
Rockstar Store physical preorders
For physical preorders placed through the Rockstar Store, Rockstar directs customers to Xsolla. Xsolla states that digital preorder refunds must be requested through the Xsolla Wallet Purchases section. Physical preorders can be canceled only before the order ships. A submitted cancellation applies to every item in that order, so canceling a mixed order can remove products you intended to keep.
Because rules vary by country and account, check the applicable PlayStation, Xbox, retailer, or Xsolla terms immediately after ordering. Do not assume that an unshipped item, an unredeemed code, or a preorder made months before launch automatically qualifies under the same rule everywhere.

- You do not need a physical copy, because no physical Ultimate edition is offered.

Wait before ordering when
- You may need to cancel, because the seller’s refund window and conditions are more important than the edition name.
- You are buying a PlayStation code from another country, where region mismatch can prevent redemption.
- You want the physical preorder bonus but have not confirmed that the retailer still has supply.
- You are uncertain whether you will keep GTA+, and have not noted the applicable claim deadline or renewal setting.
How to preorder without avoidable problems
- Choose the seller first. Decide between the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Rockstar Store, or another retailer. Save the seller’s refund and cancellation page for your records.
- Match the edition to the format. Select Standard if you need a physical code-in-box copy. Select Ultimate only if digital delivery is acceptable.
- Verify the account country. For PlayStation, buy from the same country as the platform account. Xbox codes are not region-locked, but you should still confirm the storefront and account terms shown at checkout.
- Read the bonus wording. Confirm whether the Vintage Vice City Pack is guaranteed or limited by physical supply, and note the GTA+ claim deadline for your platform.
- Record the order details. Keep the receipt, order number, edition, seller, and expected delivery or preload date. These details determine whom to contact if something goes wrong.
- Plan GTA+ cancellation. If you do not want an ongoing subscription, set a reminder before the promotional month ends and cancel through the platform account that received the offer.
- For physical Standard, redeem before upgrading. Enter the code on the correct account first, then purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the same platform if you decide to add it.
