Short answer: WARDOGS is fully playable, but BULKHEAD has not published a definitive rule saying which cash, XP, levels, unlocks, cosmetics, statistics, or other account data will survive a season change or carry into version 1.0. Treat every long-term progression item as potentially subject to revision until an official retention policy is announced. Buy Early Access for the current game and the chance to experience its development, not on the assumption that all progress is permanent.
What WARDOGS Early Access means right now
WARDOGS entered Steam Early Access on 10 September 2026. That is a playable release, not a preview video or a promise that the final build is already fixed. BULKHEAD describes Early Access as a way to put a fully playable first-person shooter in players’ hands, gather meaningful feedback and iterate with the community.

The Steam Early Access Q&A also warns that the game is “still actively evolving.” Players should expect ongoing balance changes, feature expansion and polish while development continues. BULKHEAD estimates an Early Access period of roughly one to two years, but that is an estimate rather than a contractual end date. Development speed, testing results and community feedback can move the schedule in either direction.

For a player, this has a practical consequence: the systems you use today are real, but they are not necessarily final. Weapon balance, economy values, progression pacing, unlock requirements and seasonal features can all be adjusted without making the current release unplayable.

What is known about WARDOGS progression
The current progression model uses cash and XP. Those are the two clearly identified progression resources in the Early Access information. BULKHEAD is also planning deeper progression and a stronger seasonal metagame during development.
Neither statement establishes permanent ownership of anything earned with those systems. A cash balance can be re-tuned; XP thresholds can be changed; an unlock path can be reordered; and a new seasonal structure can introduce different rewards. Those are normal Early Access possibilities, not proof that a wipe will happen.
The most accurate way to describe your current progress is therefore “progress in the live Early Access build.” It has value for playing, testing and learning the game, but its long-term retention has not been guaranteed publicly.

As of 20 October 2026, the official sources reviewed do not publish a season-reset schedule or a carry-over list. They do not say whether a season transition resets cash, XP, levels, weapon or vehicle unlocks, cosmetics, statistics, challenges or other account data.

That leaves three separate questions, and they should not be conflated:

Do not treat the absence of a wipe announcement as a promise that no wipe will occur. Conversely, do not report a wipe as confirmed merely because the game is in Early Access. Until BULKHEAD publishes a specific policy, the responsible assumption is that persistence is unconfirmed.
What changed in Season 2
Season 2 released on 15 October 2026. Its announcement shows the kind of substantial, system-level change that can arrive during Early Access:
- Four weapons: TCX Spear, M14, PP-19 Bizon and Evo-3 Ultra.
- Four vehicles: Wolf-110, Wolf-110 Assault, T-72 and Flakpanzer Gepard.
- Three buildables: MG Nest, Large Shelter and Wooden Step.
- Weather: a rain weather preset.
- Experimental system: a Wager Vendor.
- Balance work: additional tuning intended to improve the state of the game during Early Access.
The Wager Vendor is especially useful for understanding the risk profile of Early Access systems. BULKHEAD says it may be removed during the season if it proves too exploitable. That is an explicit example of a feature being tested in the live game rather than treated as permanent content. A removal, redesign or replacement of a system does not by itself tell you what happens to items or currency associated with it; that policy would need to be stated separately.

Season 2 therefore demonstrates two things at once: your purchase can receive meaningful new content while the game is still in development, and the rules around that content can change after players expose balance or exploitation problems.
How to think about saves, unlocks and account data
“Save” can mean several different kinds of data in an online shooter. Until a retention policy names each category, assume that none has a guaranteed future status:
- Cash: the current in-game money resource; future economies may change its value or availability.
- XP and levels: progression measures that can be rebalanced by changing thresholds, rewards or pacing.
- Weapon and vehicle unlocks: access granted through the current progression path; a redesigned path could alter requirements or ownership.
- Buildables and seasonal rewards: items linked to systems that may be expanded, replaced or retired.
- Cosmetics: visual items whose persistence has not been specified in the official material reviewed.
- Statistics and challenges: records that may be retained, recalculated or reset depending on how seasonal tracking is implemented.
This is not a prediction that every category will be deleted. It is a boundary on what can honestly be promised today. A future announcement could define a full wipe, a partial reset, permanent unlocks with a seasonal currency reset, or no reset at all.

A season transition and the eventual 1.0 launch are different events. A season may refresh competitive goals or introduce a new content cycle while the underlying Early Access account remains. Version 1.0 could involve a larger migration because systems, progression architecture or the economy may be considered final at that point.

The official Early Access material does not guarantee that any Early Access earnings will be transferred to 1.0. It also does not announce a planned wipe date. The one-to-two-year estimate should not be converted into a calendar promise, and no final feature list should be inferred from the roadmap.
If permanent progression matters to your purchase decision, wait for a statement that answers all of these points explicitly:
- Which categories of data are retained?
- Which categories are reset at a season boundary?
- Are earned cosmetics treated differently from power or economy progression?
- Will the 1.0 launch use the same account data, and if so, what transfers?
- Will players receive compensation, conversion or replacement rewards for retired systems?
What the roadmap does—and does not—promise
The WARDOGS Field Manual lists planned additions including more maps, weapons, vehicles, deeper progression, a seasonal metagame, fighter jets, expanded weapon categories and more objective variations. These entries are roadmap plans, not commitments to a particular launch date, final scope or guaranteed implementation.

That distinction matters when evaluating progression. “Deeper progression” may mean more tiers, more currencies, additional roles or another structure entirely; the roadmap does not define the final design. A “seasonal metagame” likewise indicates a direction, not a published ruleset. Use words such as planned, proposed and roadmap when discussing these features, rather than presenting them as delivered content.

Should you buy WARDOGS in Early Access or wait?
The right choice depends less on a predicted wipe than on how you value participation during development. This comparison keeps the known trade-offs separate from unknown retention rules.

Early Access is a sensible purchase for players who enjoy learning a changing shooter, testing new systems and accepting that time invested may not translate into permanent progression. Waiting is safer for players whose main value is a stable economy, a settled unlock path or guaranteed continuity into 1.0.
A practical checklist before you invest time
- Read each season announcement. Look for explicit language about resets, retained unlocks, currencies, cosmetics and statistics rather than assuming a season works like the previous one.
- Separate content from persistence. A patch can add weapons or vehicles without saying whether existing progress survives.
- Record your expectations. If a particular unlock or cosmetic matters to you, note the announcement that introduced it and watch for later policy changes.
- Budget for experimentation. Do not grind solely because you believe a current threshold or reward is guaranteed to remain.
- Check the date and version of any claim. A statement from the 10 September Early Access launch can be superseded by a later seasonal announcement.
- Decide your tolerance before buying. If a possible reset would make the purchase feel wasted, waiting for a published retention policy is the lower-risk option.
How to interpret future wipe announcements
When BULKHEAD eventually publishes retention rules, identify which of these models it describes rather than relying on the single word “wipe”:
- Full reset: cash, XP, levels, unlocks and other progression return to a starting state.
- Partial reset: some currencies or levels reset while selected unlocks, cosmetics or account records remain.
- Seasonal reset: a season-specific track or currency restarts, while permanent account items continue.
- No progression reset: the same progression carries forward, with only competitive rankings, challenges or seasonal rewards refreshed.
The announcement should also explain timing, exceptions and treatment of retired features. For example, Season 2’s Wager Vendor can be removed if it is exploitable; a complete policy would need to say what happens to any associated rewards or balances.
What you can safely conclude today
WARDOGS is a playable Early Access FPS with active development, a cash-and-XP progression model and a live seasonal update cadence. Season 2 proves that substantial content can arrive before 1.0, while the experimental vendor shows that individual systems may be withdrawn or redesigned.
What you cannot safely conclude is that your current cash, XP, levels, unlocks, cosmetics or statistics will survive the next season or the eventual 1.0 release. No official source cited here supplies that guarantee. Until BULKHEAD publishes category-by-category retention rules, treat progression as provisional and judge the purchase by the current game, the lower planned Early Access price and your willingness to adapt as the design changes.
