On April 23, 2024, Kabrutus launched DEI Detected as a standalone website extending his earlier Sweet Baby Inc. (SBI) Detected Steam-curator project. Launch-era coverage described a catalog that went beyond consulting relationships to include topics such as censorship and localization. Those were the site’s categories and judgments—not independent confirmation that every game was correctly classified. The Reddit post captured discussion around the launch, not a fact-check of the catalog.
What did the Reddit post mean by “DEI Detected is up”?
The April 23, 2024 post in r/KotakuInAction linked to deidetected.com and announced that the site was available. Its title described the project as listing games involving a consultant firm “like SBI.” In context, this meant a new website cataloging games according to categories and criteria set by its creator, Kabrutus—not an official industry database or a verified list of every game connected to consultants.

The thread documents how some Reddit users reacted, including questions about the catalog’s scope, whether it would be maintained, and whether it could cover other media. Those comments show community discussion at launch; they do not establish the accuracy of claims about a particular game or consultant.

How was DEI Detected broader than SBI Detected?
Before the standalone site, Kabrutus was known for the Sweet Baby Inc. Detected Steam curator. Geeks + Gamers reported on launch day that DEI Detected expanded that SBI-centered activity into a broader catalog. The Shortcut’s May 16, 2024 report described coverage that included DEI, censorship, localization, and outside consultancy.

That broader scope matters when interpreting the Reddit title: DEI Detected was not described simply as a directory of games worked on by SBI. Its launch-era remit included several kinds of claims and classifications, whose grounds could differ from one entry to another.
What did the site say its entries contained?
Geeks + Gamers reported that individual game pages included evidence links or explanatory articles, along with publisher tallies. The article also observed that a section for games without DEI influence was empty at the time. These are details reported about the site near launch, not confirmation of how it operates now.

The Shortcut likewise described examples of pages explaining the site’s classifications. The appropriate way to read an entry is as the site’s editorial claim, then check the cited material and the underlying evidence independently. A link or explanation can help a reader assess a claim, but does not by itself make the classification verified.

What did Kabrutus say about the launch?
In an announcement reproduced by Geeks + Gamers and attributed to Kabrutus (@kabrutusdeid) on April 23, 2024, he wrote: “This is a HUGE milestone for me and I have Pedro from Migacz Brothers to thank for it. He and his team were the ones who took the project and made it happen!” The Shortcut also quoted the website’s slogan: “DEI is becoming unbearable in games. It’s time to push back: vote with your wallet!” The slogan is the website’s own framing, not a neutral finding about games or the industry.

Is the website still online, and is its catalog current?
The launch-era sources establish that the site was reported as launched in April 2024, but they do not establish whether it remains online today, how frequently it is updated, or what its catalog currently contains. The Reddit thread includes later questions about availability and mirrors, but those are historical comments rather than evidence of present status. Current availability and update cadence therefore remain unverified.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should readers evaluate a listing?
- Identify the specific claim. A listing may concern consulting, localization, censorship, or another category; do not assume every entry makes the same kind of allegation.
- Follow the entry’s evidence. Check what its linked material actually documents and whether it supports the site’s interpretation.
- Separate connection from judgment. A reported professional relationship is not, by itself, proof of a particular creative decision or of the site’s broader characterization.
- Check dates and corrections. A launch-era report cannot show whether an entry has since changed, been corrected, or gone stale.
For background on the wider SBI controversy, Kotaku’s March 6, 2024 article discusses what the company does and what some gamers believe it does: “Sweet Baby Inc. Doesn’t Do What Some Gamers Think It Does.” That background is not validation of DEI Detected’s individual listings.
