PlayStation Plus Cloud Streaming requires a PlayStation Plus Premium membership, a supported account and region, and a reliable broadband connection. Sony lists 5 Mbps upload and 5 Mbps download as the minimum to start a session. For a more useful picture, Sony’s Portal guidance targets 7 Mbps for 720p and 13 Mbps for 1080p, while its PS5 guidance recommends 13 Mbps for 720p, 23 Mbps for 1080p, 38 Mbps for 1440p, and 52 Mbps for 4K. You also need the right device: PlayStation Portal, a PS5, or a compatible Windows PC. The service streams only selected games, and eligibility can change by title, country, region, and time.
What do I need for PlayStation Plus Cloud Streaming?
At a minimum, you need five things: PlayStation Plus Premium, a PlayStation account, an adult account where required, a supported country or region, and broadband internet that meets Sony’s speed requirements. Your hardware determines the setup: Portal cloud streaming needs a PlayStation Portal Remote Player, PC streaming needs the PlayStation Plus PC app and a compatible controller, and PS5 streaming runs from the console’s own interface.

- Membership: Cloud Streaming is a Premium benefit. PlayStation Plus Essential and Extra do not include it.
- Internet: Sony requires at least 5 Mbps upload and 5 Mbps download to establish a session.
- Account: You need a PlayStation account. Portal cloud streaming is not available to child accounts.
- Region: The feature works only in countries and regions Sony supports; overseas territories are excluded from the Portal guidance cited here.
- Eligible game: The title must be one of the selected games Sony makes available for streaming at that time.
Meeting the minimum starts a session; it does not guarantee low latency, a stable picture, or a particular resolution. Sony says performance varies with the game and the quality of your network environment.
Which PlayStation Plus membership includes cloud streaming?
PlayStation Plus Premium is the only membership tier that includes Cloud Streaming. Essential and Extra can provide other PlayStation Plus benefits, but neither tier unlocks the streaming function.

Premium access still does not make every PlayStation title streamable. The catalog is selective, and a game’s availability depends on its catalog listing, your region, and the current service lineup.
What internet speed does PlayStation Plus Cloud Streaming need?
Sony’s session minimum is 5 Mbps upload and 5 Mbps download. That is the threshold Sony gives for establishing a cloud-streaming connection, not a recommended ceiling for every display mode.

Sony’s PS5 cloud-streaming page publishes higher recommended rates for several resolutions:

These figures describe the broadband capacity Sony recommends for the streaming session. They are not a promise of response time or image quality. A connection can exceed a speed target and still feel poor if latency, packet loss, Wi-Fi interference, or household congestion disrupts the stream.
Does PlayStation Portal need a PS5 turned on for cloud streaming?
No. A PS5 console does not have to be available for a Portal cloud session. Portal connects to Sony’s cloud service when you choose an eligible title, so the console does not need to be powered on or used as the source of the game.

How to start a Portal cloud session
- From the Portal home screen, open the Cloud Streaming tab.
- Choose a title from PlayStation Plus Premium streaming, PlayStation Plus streaming games, or an eligible game in Your Library.
- Select Stream.
Portal can stream selected PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, along with selected digital PS5 games in your PlayStation Store library. Owning a digital PS5 game is not by itself a guarantee that it will appear as streamable; the title must be in the selected eligible set.
Can I stream PlayStation Plus games directly on PS5?
Yes. On PS5, eligible titles show a PlayStation Plus Stream button. Selecting it starts the cloud version without requiring you to download the game or install its updates first.

PS5 cloud streaming can include selected PlayStation Store titles, games from the Game Catalog, Classics Catalog titles, and selected free-to-play games. The exact list is title-, region-, and time-dependent, so use Sony’s Cloud Streaming Game Finder to check a particular game before relying on it.
PS5 streaming is different from Remote Play
Cloud Streaming runs the eligible game on Sony’s servers. It is therefore separate from Remote Play, which uses your own PS5 as the host. For the cloud option, the console does not need to download the game or provide the processing power for the session.

PC streaming uses the free PlayStation Plus PC app on a compatible Windows computer. You need an adult PlayStation account, an active Premium membership, broadband of at least 5 Mbps, and a compatible controller. Sony recommends using a wired network connection for the PC.

PC account and controller conditions
Sony’s getting-started guidance says PC users need a PlayStation Network account with registered payment details and must be 18 or older. The app supports streaming PS4 games from the Game Catalog and selected Classics Catalog titles. A compatible controller is required; a keyboard and mouse should not be treated as substitutes unless a particular game and app version explicitly supports them.
Basic PC setup
- Install the PlayStation Plus PC app on a compatible Windows computer.
- Sign in with an adult PlayStation Network account that has registered payment details.
- Confirm that the account has an active Premium membership.
- Connect a compatible controller, preferably by USB or a reliable supported wireless connection.
- Use a wired broadband connection where practical, then choose an eligible game in the app and start streaming.
Which devices can use PlayStation Plus Cloud Streaming?
Portal, PS5, and Windows PC all support cloud streaming, but they are not interchangeable setup paths. Portal requires dedicated Portal hardware; PC requires the Windows app and a compatible controller; PS5 exposes streaming through eligible game pages on the console.

Which PlayStation games can I stream?
There is no universal “stream every PlayStation game” library. Sony makes selected titles available, and the eligible set can change by country, region, and time.
- On Portal: selected PS5 games from the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, plus selected digital PS5 games that you own.
- On PS5: selected PlayStation Store games, Game Catalog titles, Classics Catalog titles, and selected free-to-play games.
- On PC: PS4 games from the Game Catalog and selected Classics Catalog titles through the PC app.
Check the individual game page rather than assuming that a platform, publisher, or ownership status makes a title eligible. On PS5, look for the PlayStation Plus Stream button. On Portal, use the Cloud Streaming tab and search for the title. Sony’s Cloud Streaming Game Finder is the most reliable way to verify a game before starting a download or subscribing.

Cloud Streaming is restricted to Sony-supported countries and regions, and the list can change. Sony’s current Portal guidance includes the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, and numerous European countries, while excluding overseas territories on that guidance. Check the current regional support list for the account’s country before purchasing Premium for this feature.

Portal cloud streaming is unavailable to child accounts. PC guidance also requires users to be 18 or older and to use an adult PlayStation Network account with registered payment details. These restrictions apply even when the device and broadband connection meet the technical requirements.
Why is cloud streaming unstable when my speed is high enough?
Bandwidth is only one part of the connection. Sony specifically notes that game performance depends on the quality of the network environment, so a speed-test result above the stated target cannot guarantee a consistent session.
Check the connection path
- Run the speed test on the same Wi-Fi network and in the same room where you will play; a router result elsewhere in the house may not represent the device’s connection.
- Prefer a wired connection for a Windows PC, as Sony recommends.
- For Portal, move closer to the Wi-Fi access point or reduce walls and other sources of interference.
- Pause large downloads, video streams, cloud backups, and other traffic that competes for upload or download capacity.
- Test at the time you normally play. Evening congestion can change the quality of a connection that looks strong at another hour.
Interpret symptoms correctly
- Session will not start: confirm both upload and download are at least 5 Mbps and verify Premium, account age, region, and title eligibility.
- Image becomes soft or resolution drops: the service may be adapting to available bandwidth or changing network conditions.
- Controls feel delayed: speed alone does not measure latency; try a wired PC connection or a stronger, less congested Wi-Fi path.
- Only one game fails: check that game’s current streaming eligibility rather than assuming the whole service is unavailable.
Is PlayStation Plus Cloud Streaming worth it instead of downloading?
Streaming is most useful when you want to try an eligible game immediately, avoid a large download, or play on Portal without using a PS5 as the local host. It removes the wait for installation and updates, but it depends on a stable connection and a catalog that includes the game you want.

What should I check if a game is missing from the streaming list?
Check the title in Sony’s Cloud Streaming Game Finder or search from Portal’s Cloud Streaming tab. Eligibility can change with the country, region, and date, so a game that was available previously may not be listed now.
Can PC streaming work without a PlayStation controller?
