PS5 Pro preorder dates have already passed
Sony announced the PlayStation 5 Pro on September 10, 2024, including its features, launch price, and release plan. The original U.S. preorder schedule was:

For the U.S. rollout, the participating-retailer phase included major chains such as Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop. Those names describe the 2024 preorder schedule—not a promise that each retailer currently has new PS5 Pro stock or is accepting a preorder. A current listing may instead be a normal purchase, an out-of-stock page, a marketplace offer, or a refurbished or used unit.

Where to buy the PS5 Pro now
Start with PlayStation Direct, Sony’s official store. The U.S. PlayStation Direct console page currently lists the PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 2 TB and showed a price of $899.00 at the time of the latest research. That price and availability are volatile, so check the live product page before ordering. If you are comparing offers, the PS5 Pro Console 2TB is the relevant product description to look for rather than a generic PS5 listing.
Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop are also sensible places to check for current inventory, but verify each listing individually. Before paying, confirm:
- That the seller is Sony or the retailer itself, rather than an unverified marketplace seller.
- That the console is new, not used or refurbished.
- That the listing is for the standard 2TB PS5 Pro, not a limited 30th Anniversary bundle.
- The total price, including any bundle premiums, shipping, and taxes.
- The estimated delivery date and the retailer’s return policy.
- Whether the listing says “buy” or “preorder.” In August 2026, a normal purchase listing should not be described as a preorder.
How much does the PS5 Pro cost?
The PS5 Pro launched in the United States at an MSRP of $699.99. That is the original launch price, not necessarily the price currently shown by Sony or a retailer. The latest researched PlayStation Direct listing displayed $899.00, so readers should use the live listing—not the 2024 launch MSRP—as the purchase-price reference.
A price substantially above the original MSRP may reflect a bundle, a marketplace seller, limited availability, or a special edition. Check what is included before comparing it with a standard console. Also be cautious about unusually low prices: they may indicate a used or refurbished system, missing accessories, or a listing that is not sold directly by the retailer.
What comes with the standard PS5 Pro?
The standard PS5 Pro is a digital-only console with:
Rank #2
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
- A 2TB solid-state drive.
- One DualSense wireless controller.
- Astro’s Playroom pre-installed.
The standard package does not include a built-in disc drive. It also does not automatically include the optional vertical stand. Check the box contents for the exact listing you are considering, particularly when buying a bundle or second-hand console.
Do you need the PS5 Pro disc drive?
You need the separately sold compatible disc drive if you want to play physical PS5 or PS4 game discs, watch Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray discs, or continue using a physical-game collection. Sony documents a disc drive compatible with the PS5 Pro, but it is an additional purchase rather than part of the standard console package.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Sony’s setup documentation also says that the console requires an internet connection to pair the disc drive during installation. That means a buyer planning to use physical media should not assume the drive can be installed and activated entirely offline.
When shopping for the accessory, look specifically for the PS5-compatible disc drive and confirm that the listing identifies PS5 Pro compatibility. Also check whether the required console cover or installation components are included. Do not assume a drive sold for another PlayStation model will work simply because it looks similar.
Is the PS5 Pro vertical stand included?
No. The vertical stand is a separate compatible accessory. It is optional: the console can be used without it if your setup supports the console’s horizontal orientation. If you want the PS5 Pro standing vertically, budget for the official compatible stand or verify the compatibility of any third-party alternative before buying.

Is the PS5 Pro worth buying now?
That depends less on the old preorder date than on four current questions: the price you can actually find, the games you play, your display, and whether you need physical discs.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Reasons to consider it
- You have a suitable 4K display. The PS5 Pro is designed to make a stronger case for higher image quality, higher frame rates, and advanced lighting effects on supported games.
- You care about premium graphics modes. Sony highlights an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, as key PS5 Pro technologies.
- You play PS5 Pro-enhanced games. The PlayStation Store maintains a PS5 Pro Enhanced Games category, which is a useful starting point for checking whether your library includes supported titles.
- You prefer a digital-first setup. The 2TB storage capacity is useful for a large installed library, although actual usable space is lower than the advertised capacity and large games can still require external storage management.
Reasons to stay with a standard PS5
- You mainly play games without meaningful PS5 Pro enhancements. Improvements vary by game; not every PS5 title receives the same combination of frame rate, ray tracing, resolution, or PSSR benefits.
- You already own a PS5 and are satisfied with its performance. The upgrade is easier to justify when the games you play support the Pro features and your display can show the difference.
- You rely on physical media. The extra cost of the compatible disc drive should be included in the comparison from the beginning.
- The current price is far above the original MSRP. A premium caused by a bundle or marketplace listing can materially change the value calculation.
Sony’s feature claims describe the console’s capabilities, not a guarantee that every game will run with identical improvements. Check the enhanced-games catalog and the individual game’s support information before assuming that a particular title will receive a specific resolution or frame-rate mode.
A practical PS5 Pro buying checklist
- Check the live PlayStation Direct listing first. Record the current price, stock status, product name, and delivery estimate.
- Compare major retailers. Check Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop, but distinguish direct retail inventory from marketplace offers.
- Identify the edition. Confirm whether you are buying the standard 2TB PS5 Pro or a limited 30th Anniversary bundle.
- Calculate the complete setup price. Add the disc drive if you use physical games or discs, and add the vertical stand only if your setup requires one.
- Check game support. Look at the PS5 Pro Enhanced Games category and verify support for the games you actually play.
- Review delivery and returns. This is especially important for marketplace, used, refurbished, and unusually expensive listings.
- Save the order details. Keep the receipt, seller information, promised delivery date, and product description in case the listing changes.
What “preorder” means for an old PS5 Pro listing
A page that still contains 2024 preorder language may be archival, cached, or poorly updated. Since the PS5 Pro released on November 7, 2024, a legitimate in-stock listing in 2026 should normally offer a regular purchase with a current delivery estimate. If a page asks you to “reserve” a console without giving a firm product, seller, price, and fulfillment date, treat it cautiously and check the retailer’s current console category.
