That distinction matters: co-op is supported during the story, but the exact earliest invitation milestone is not specified in the official material. Does joining require level 40 or SHD Levels?
No general co-op requirement is tied to SHD Levels. Ubisoft says SHD Levels unlock after you complete the main story and reach level 40; this is a post-campaign progression system, not a stated prerequisite for joining a friend in ordinary co-op. What if you want to enter the Dark Zone together?
The Dark Zone has its own access gate, separate from the game’s general co-op availability. Ubisoft says you must recruit Senait Ezera at the Theater Settlement and complete “Dark Zone East Recon” to unlock Dark Zone access. Once you have access, you can group with friends or use matchmaking. Ubisoft’s Dark Zone access instructions give the requirements.
Can friends on different platforms join?
Crossplay status depends on when you are reading this. Ubisoft’s Gamescom announcement scheduled crossplay for November 2026, said it would be enabled by default at launch, and noted that players could disable it in settings. That announcement was made before the scheduled launch, so it is not confirmation that crossplay is currently live. Check Ubisoft’s announcement and the current in-game or platform guidance for the live status and supported platform combinations.

Do you need a console subscription?
Ubisoft’s Dark Zone support article says console multiplayer requires an active PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass subscription, as applicable. Subscription names and platform or regional requirements can change, so check Ubisoft’s current guidance and your console’s rules before playing online.
