Its launch route began with the North Kurzan story, but progression changed substantially in the September 16, 2026 Dimensions Unbound update, so the original requirements below are historical rather than current instructions.
When did Lost Ark Tier 4 release?
Amazon Games launched Tier 4 in the Western version of Lost Ark on October 9, 2024. The date had originally been set for September 25, then moved by two weeks so localization teams could finish translating new stories and systems for supported languages. Behemoth moved earlier in the schedule, arriving September 11 with Tier 3 eligibility at item level 1620. Amazon Games’ roadmap adjustment explains the change, and the Arkesia Ignited release notes confirm the October launch.

What did Tier 4 add at launch?
The October 2024 update introduced a new North Kurzan story and activities, a new gear tier and honing materials, changes to accessories and engravings, Tier 4 gems, Ark Passive, and Hyper Awakenings. The launch details below describe how those systems worked at the time, not guaranteed requirements in the current version.

North Kurzan and its activities
North Kurzan was both a new continent and the story gateway to Tier 4. At launch, starting its story required item level 1600 or higher, completion of the South Kurzan world quest, and completion of the Kazeros Raid Overture and Behemoth prologue quests. Finishing North Kurzan unlocked Kurzan Front and Kenuart Fortress.
- Kurzan Front: A hack-and-slash activity similar to Chaos Dungeons. One daily entry consumed 100 Aura of Resonance. Abidos 1 Operation required item level 1640; Abidos 2 Operation required 1660.
- Kenuart Fortress: Available solo or in a party of four at item level 1620. Players could enter repeatedly, and the first boss defeat each day guaranteed a Tier 4 gear selection chest.
- Argeos: The first Tier 4 Guardian Raid, with a launch requirement of item level 1640.

Gear, honing, and materials
Players could earn Tier 4 Relic gear in Kenuart Fortress and use Gear Transfer to convert Tier 3 gear. The transfer did not preserve Artisan’s Energy, honing XP, or the honing failure success-rate bonus. Advanced Honing and quality information were retained, although Advanced Honing on Tier 4 gear required Tier 4 materials.
Materials named in the launch notes included Destiny Leapstones, Destiny Destruction and Guardian Stones, Destiny Shards, and Abidos Fusion Material, as well as Lava’s Breath, Glacier’s Breath, and Circulated Leapstone. Tier 4 Ancient gear was to come through the Aegir raid.

Accessories, engravings, and gems
Tier 4 Relic accessories were available through Kurzan Front, Echidna, Argeos, and Aegir under the item-level conditions in the launch notes. Unlike the earlier accessory system, they did not provide engraving nodes; they supplied stats and Ark Passive Enlightenment points instead. Refining allowed players to add three rows of randomly rolled stats, at a cost in gold and luminous gem shards.
Players could equip five combat engravings and use recipes to improve each engraving’s direct bonus. Ability Stones strengthened engraving effects according to their faceting level, while class engravings moved into Ark Passive. Tier 4 Doomfire and Blazing gems were available to characters at item level 1640 or higher. A Tier 3 gem could transfer to Tier 4 two levels lower—for example, a Tier 3 level-10 gem became a Tier 4 level-8 gem.

Ark Passive and Hyper Awakening
Ark Passive reorganized character building around three tabs: Evolution, Enlightenment, and Leap. The system incorporated key stats, gear-set effects, class specialization, and Hyper Awakening skills. Players had to finish the North Kurzan main quest and turn Ark Passive on; doing so deactivated certain prior battle stats, gear-set effects, and Tier 3 engraving effects. Hyper Awakenings were part of the Western October 2024 update.

What were Ignite Servers?
Ignite Servers were a temporary catch-up experience included with the 2024 rollout, not an ongoing server event. Each region received one. New characters started in Voldis at item level 1540 and combat level 60, with event rewards intended to help them reach item level 1620.

Matchmaking was restricted to Ignite participants, and the market and auction house were disabled. Amazon Games described a seven-week server period: players could create up to six characters, but only one character was eligible to transfer to a legacy server. These limits and event terms applied to the original rollout.
How did the Tier 3-to-Tier 4 route change in 2026?
On September 16, 2026, the Dimensions Unbound update replaced important parts of the launch-era progression path. Amazon Games said normal honing now begins with Tier 4 Relic gear; Tier 3 upper Ancient (Akkan) gear can no longer be enhanced through normal honing. Honing unlocks after the North Kurzan main quest “The Way Forward,” rather than the previously named Voldis quest.
The update also changed the gear granted by story quests:
- Completing the South Kurzan world quest “Blazing Flames of Warr” grants a Tier 3 Honing Level 15 Honor Brand set at item level 1600.
- Completing the North Kurzan quest “The Way Forward” grants a Tier 4 Determination of Destiny set at Honing Level 10 and item level 1640. The earlier reward was Tier 4 Honing Level 0 gear at item level 1590.
- Existing Tier 3 upper honing materials can be exchanged for Tier 4 honing materials at a set ratio.
The update’s release notes describe the changes as streamlining Tier 3 progression so newer and returning players can reach endgame faster. That is the publisher’s stated rationale, not a measured player-outcome result. For the current route, use the 2026 notes rather than applying 2024 guide steps unchanged.
