Official Sims 4 Packs do not go in a folder you create. On PC and Mac, the EA app handles installation, and in-game Pack Selection controls which owned Packs are loaded. The folder most players are looking for is the Mods folder, but that is for player-made Mods and Custom Content (CC), not official Packs.
Where official Packs go on PC and Mac
EA’s Help guide, “How to install packs in The Sims 4,” says digital Packs should install automatically after purchase. It does not tell players to create a Packs directory or move Pack files by hand, so there is no folder to populate. If a Pack you own is missing, check it in the EA app:
- Open the EA app and go to Library.
- Select The Sims 4.
- Open Manage, then Manage add-ons. Some builds may label this Add-ons; use whatever label appears on your screen.
- Compare the list. Installed add-ons and owned-but-uninstalled add-ons are shown separately.
- For an owned Pack that is not installed, select Download beside it.
Menu labels and purchase behavior can change between EA app versions, so the on-screen text takes priority over any path written here.
If a Pack is installed but its content is not active
Installed does not always mean loaded. EA documents Pack Selection as an in-game option for loading or unloading Packs without uninstalling them. Use it to turn a Pack on or off rather than removing and reinstalling it.

Where Mods and Custom Content go
Mods and CC are player-created downloads. EA’s Help guide, “How to install Mods in The Sims 4,” directs users to the Mods folder inside the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder in your user files. On Windows, this folder is normally found under Documents. If the Mods folder does not exist, create it. The setup sequence is:
- Download the file. If it is a compressed archive, extract it first; EA says compressed files must be unzipped before use.
- Move the extracted files into Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods.
- In the game, open Game Options > Other and enable Custom Content and Mods.
- Relaunch The Sims 4 so the changes take effect.
EA’s official Mods page states: “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.” Install only content whose source you trust, and keep backups of your saves before adding new files. A community-authored EA Forums guide, “[INFO] How to Use Mods and CC,” adds practical detail about extracted files, folder depth, and Tray files. It is supplemental, so follow EA’s official steps where the two differ.

EA’s FAQ lists a system requirement of 25 GB of free hard-drive space, plus 1 GB additional space for Custom Content and saved games. The FAQ page does not state a year for this figure, so check EA’s current requirements before installing a large CC library.
Why a Pack or CC file does not appear

Console players
Mods are not available on PlayStation or Xbox, so there is no Mods folder to find on console. Console players load Packs through in-game Pack Selection. Do not apply a Windows or macOS folder path to a console.

What the official instructions do not specify
EA’s Pack installation instructions do not name the internal directory where installed Pack data is stored. Because no supported location is documented, do not copy Pack files into a folder you create or edit game files to force a Pack to appear. Use the EA app and Pack Selection instead.
