In practical terms, searching the entire Liberty City map for a label reading only “North Fort Law” can be misleading. The useful district label is Fort Law; the military base is a location within that district.

How to find it step by step
- Start with the Liberty City map. Use the original Grand Theft Auto map rather than a later game’s Liberty City. The location described here belongs to Grand Theft Auto 1.
- Find New Guernsey. Fort Law is not placed directly at the city-region level. It is listed under New Guernsey, so use that region as your first search area.
- Identify Fort Law inside New Guernsey. Once the New Guernsey area is in view, look for the Fort Law district label. That is the district containing the base.
- Switch to local landmarks. Inside Fort Law, use Fort Law Subway Station and Fort Law Park as reference points. The base is west of the station and east of the park.
- Check the west–east relationship. If you have found the station, travel or scan west from it. If you have found the park, scan east from it. The military base lies between those two landmarks in that directional sense.
- Confirm the district before concluding you are there. The surrounding district should still be Fort Law, within New Guernsey. A place outside that chain is not the North Fort Law Military Base described by the map references.
This method works even when a map image is crowded or when the base label is harder to read than the larger district names. Region first, district second, landmarks third is the reliable order.
What New Guernsey and Fort Law mean on the map
New Guernsey is the regional container
New Guernsey is the Liberty City region that contains Fort Law. It is the level of the map you should use when a regional-and-districts view is available. A downloadable Liberty City regions-and-districts map includes Fort Law under New Guernsey, which makes the region-to-district relationship explicit.
Do not treat “New Guernsey” as an alternative name for the base. It identifies the larger area in which Fort Law is found. The military installation takes its name from the district, not from the regional label.

Fort Law is the district you need
Fort Law is a district in New Guernsey in Grand Theft Auto 1. The district is presented as being based on Fort Lee, New Jersey. That real-world inspiration can help explain the name, but it does not change the in-game map hierarchy: the playable location remains a Liberty City district in the original game.

When a guide asks “What district is North Fort Law in?”, the answer is Fort Law. When it asks “What region is Fort Law in?”, the answer is New Guernsey.
Fort Law’s listed neighboring areas
Fort Law’s published district description gives surrounding areas that can help you orient a regional map. The border listing names the following locations:

Using the two internal landmarks
Fort Law Subway Station
Fort Law Subway Station is the eastern reference point in the most specific location description. The North Fort Law Military Base is west of the station. If the station is the clearest label on your map, place it first, then look immediately to its west for the base area while staying inside Fort Law.

Fort Law Park
Fort Law Park is the western reference point. The base is east of the park. If the park is easier to identify, move your search eastward rather than searching the rest of New Guernsey.
Why the pair is more useful than one landmark
A single directional clue can be ambiguous on a stylized or low-resolution map. The two clues work together: the station should be on the base’s west–east line to the east, and the park should be on that line to the west. When both relationships agree, you have the intended North Fort Law location rather than another part of the district.
What North Fort Law is—and is not
- It is a military base. The full location name used by the map references is North Fort Law Military Base.
- It is inside Fort Law. “North Fort Law” does not identify a separate district outside Fort Law.
- It is in New Guernsey. New Guernsey is the region; Fort Law is the district beneath it.
- It is part of the original Liberty City map. The location belongs to Grand Theft Auto 1, not a later Liberty City interpretation.
- It is not a separate city or state. The name describes an installation within the game’s existing district structure.
This distinction matters because map labels can look like proper place names at the same level. Here, “North Fort Law” functions as the name of a base associated with Fort Law, while New Guernsey and Fort Law identify progressively larger map areas.
Why Fort Law is associated with Fort Lee
Fort Law is described as being based on Fort Lee, New Jersey. That is a design reference for the district’s name and identity, not a claim that the original game uses real New Jersey geography as its playable map. For locating the base, the in-game hierarchy remains decisive: Liberty City, then New Guernsey, then Fort Law.

Use the Fort Lee connection as background when reading a location list, but do not search a real-world map for the military base. The question concerns the fictional Liberty City map in Grand Theft Auto 1.

Regional-and-districts map
The Liberty City regions-and-districts map is the most useful reference for the first two steps because it places Fort Law under New Guernsey. It answers the broad question “Which part of Liberty City contains the district?” before you try to identify the base itself.
Detailed location entry
A detailed North Fort Law Military Base location entry supplies the decisive local orientation: west of Fort Law Subway Station and east of Fort Law Park. Use that description when the regional map establishes Fort Law but does not make the base label easy to see.

The Fort Law district entry and the North Fort Law Military Base entry describe different levels of the same location. The district entry establishes Fort Law’s place in New Guernsey and gives the surrounding-area list. The base entry identifies the installation and its two internal landmarks. Reading them together prevents the common mistake of treating a district description as if it were a precise base location.

Common map-reading mistakes
Searching for a standalone “North Fort Law” district
The base is within Fort Law. If your search starts at the district level, look for Fort Law first and then identify the installation inside it.
Stopping at New Guernsey
Finding New Guernsey only establishes the region. You still need to locate Fort Law, because the base is not described as a separate New Guernsey district.
Using only the real-world reference
Fort Lee, New Jersey is the stated inspiration for Fort Law, but the game location is on the fictional Liberty City map. Real-world geography cannot substitute for the in-game labels.
Ignoring direction words
“West of the station” and “east of the park” are not decorative descriptions. They are the precise local checks supplied for the base. If a candidate area fails either relationship, keep searching within Fort Law.
Assuming an unstated boundary
The published border list names Hackenslash and Eaglewood to the north, water and Island Heights to the east, Schlechberg to the south, and Guernsey City to the east. It does not state a separate western border in the available description. Avoid adding a neighboring district simply because the map appears to suggest one.
