Availability can change by ZIP code, store, seller and fulfillment method, so confirm the final checkout page before paying.
The accessory is officially compatible with the PS5 Pro and specific slim Digital Edition model groups. It is not a universal replacement for the original large PS5.

Best current buying approach: start with Sony’s official listing, then compare a genuine retailer-sold unit at Best Buy or Walmart. A real $79–$80 offer with clear fulfillment is preferable to a marketplace listing priced at $100 or $150.

What is the correct PS5 disc drive?
The product you want is Sony’s detachable Disc Drive for PS5 Digital Edition consoles. It is commonly identified as model CFI-ZDD1; Best Buy also lists retailer model number 1000041051.
The “PS5 Digital Edition” wording can be confusing for PS5 Pro owners, but Sony’s own product page and compatibility documentation explicitly include the PS5 Pro. See Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guide and the official product page.

If you have a PS5 Slim Disc Edition, avoid guessing based on retailer titles or customer answers. Retailer descriptions can be inconsistent; use the model-group information in Sony’s documentation.
What can the drive play?
Once installed on a compatible console, the drive supports:
- PS5 game discs.
- Supported PS4 game discs.
- 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs.
- Blu-ray discs.
- DVDs.
That makes it more useful than a simple DVD accessory. It can restore access to a physical PS5 or PS4 library, used games, borrowed discs and 4K Blu-ray movies. Sony requires an internet connection to pair the drive with the console during initial setup, so do not assume that installation can be completed entirely offline.
What is included?
Sony lists these items in the box:
- The disc drive.
- A white disc-drive cover.
- Two plastic feet for horizontal placement.
- A user manual.
The PS5 console is not included. The vertical stand is also sold separately. The drive’s horizontal feet do not replace the separate vertical stand.
How to install the PS5 Pro disc drive
Use Sony’s illustrated installation guide for the panel-removal diagrams. The safe installation sequence is:
- Turn off the PS5 from the Control Center. Do not install the drive while the console is in Rest Mode.
- Unplug the console and allow it to cool.
- Place it on a soft cloth on a flat surface.
- Remove the short horizontal stand feet.
- Remove the circular side panel.
- Align the drive’s clips with the two mounting holes.
- Press the drive into place until it clicks securely.
- Attach the circular panel and the longer horizontal feet supplied with the drive.
- Reconnect the cables and start the console.
- Connect the console to the internet so the drive and console can pair during setup.
Keep the original panel and feet. Sony says they are needed if you later use the console without the drive attached.

What to do if the drive is not detected
- Confirm the console is fully powered off, not in Rest Mode.
- Check that the drive is seated until it clicks.
- Verify that your console is a PS5 Pro or a supported CFI-2000/CFI-2100 slim Digital Edition model.
- Connect the console to the internet for initial pairing.
- Install available PS5 system software updates.
- Power down and carefully remove and reinstall the drive.
- If it remains undetected, contact PlayStation Support or use the retailer’s return process.
Do not rely on a marketplace seller’s claim that an unbranded replacement is interchangeable. Compatibility for third-party drives was not established by the available research.
Is $80 the normal price?
The observed standard-retail range was approximately $79 to $79.99: Walmart showed $79.00 and Best Buy showed $79.99. That supports treating roughly $80 as the current normal buying target, not as a permanent MSRP guarantee.
Be cautious with prices far below that range. The item may be used, open-box, incomplete, damaged or incompatible. Prices materially above $79.99 are more likely to reflect marketplace scarcity or seller markup unless Sony or a major retailer has clearly changed its pricing.
Compare the final checkout total, including shipping and taxes, along with the seller, warranty and return terms. A nominally cheaper marketplace listing may be a worse purchase than a standard-price unit from an established retailer.

When should you buy?
Buy now when:
- You own a PS5 Pro and have physical PS5 or PS4 games.
- You regularly buy used games, borrow discs or resell games.
- You want 4K Blu-ray playback.
- A trusted retailer offers the genuine Sony drive for about $80 with acceptable delivery or pickup.
- The listing clearly identifies CFI-ZDD1 or the retailer model 1000041051.
Wait when:
- You only buy digital games and do not use physical media.
- The seller is unknown or the product is not clearly Sony’s official drive.
- The price is substantially above $80 and you have no immediate need.
- Shipping, warranty or return terms eliminate the apparent discount.
The PS5 Pro does not require this accessory for ordinary digital gaming. It is necessary only if you want disc functionality.
How to track stock without overpaying
- Check Sony’s official product page first.
- At Best Buy, enter your ZIP code or select your store, then check pickup and shipping separately.
- At Walmart, inspect the “sold by” and “shipped by” labels. Walmart pages can mix retailer inventory with third-party marketplace offers.
- At Target, verify the actual shipping or pickup state rather than relying on customer Q&A.
- Confirm the product name, Sony branding and model identifier.
- Review the seller, fulfillment method, return policy and complete checkout total.
- If an item disappears from your cart, recheck the page; stock can be claimed by another customer before payment.
“In stock” is not one uniform condition. Shipping availability, pickup at one store, retailer-sold stock and marketplace inventory are different buying situations.

Sony’s PlayStation Direct page states that, beginning in January 2028, newly released PlayStation games will be available for purchase in digital format only. It also says discs for games released before January 2028 can continue to be played on supported consoles.
That should not be expanded into a claim that all physical games or all disc playback will end. The drive can still make sense today for an existing physical library, used-game purchases, lending, resale and Blu-ray playback. The January 2028 statement is a qualification for future game releases, not proof that this accessory is useless now.
