That announcement makes availability a moving target rather than a permanent delisting. A store page that appears today may be renamed, replaced or unavailable by the time you check out. The companies also said existing owners retain access, so an account that already owns a qualifying product is different from a new purchase made after a listing changes.
An earlier official FAQ announced a 28 September 2026 cutoff for standalone purchases on Steam. The later statement about reinstating the original means the situation is being corrected, not that every store has already restored the same product. Treat the date and edition shown on the live listing as decisive.
Which store currently documents the original game and expansions?
The official FAQ distinguishes Steam from the other stores. It says a Steam purchase of Complete Edition includes the original Total War: SHOGUN 2 and all associated downloadable content. The same documentation identifies Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG as official storefronts for Complete Edition, but describes purchases there as Complete Edition only.
| Storefront | What the official documentation establishes | Original game included? | Legacy DLC included? | Legacy mod position | Account and support considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam | Complete Edition purchase includes the original game and associated DLC. | Yes, according to the FAQ. | Yes, according to the FAQ. | Use the original Steam build for legacy mods; Complete Edition’s Mod.IO support is not compatible with original Shogun 2 mods. | Entitlement is tied to the Steam account. | Epic Games Store | Official store for Complete Edition. | Not promised by the cited FAQ. | Not separately promised by the cited FAQ. | Do not assume Steam Workshop or legacy-mod compatibility. | Entitlement is tied to the Epic account. “Not promised” does not prove that a store lacks every component; it means the cited official FAQ does not document the original Steam build and its legacy DLC there. If owning the old game is your requirement, Steam is the only route with an explicit statement to that effect.

What Complete Edition means on Steam
The package described by the FAQ
The official FAQ calls Complete Edition an updated and enhanced version of Shogun 2 and its DLC, developed by MATABOO, Creative Assembly and SEGA. On Steam, the documented purchase is not merely a remaster license: the FAQ says it includes the original game plus all associated downloadable content. That distinction matters if you want the older executable, its established save and mod behavior, or access to the complete expansion catalog.
Why the store title is not enough
A product name can remain visible while its underlying entitlement changes. Read the package description, included-items panel and platform requirements on the live page. Look for explicit wording that the original game is included, rather than relying on a reseller saying that a key is “complete” or “remastered.” Save a receipt and the exact product name shown at checkout.
Which Shogun 2 expansions and unit packs are relevant?
The original Steam catalog lists individual downloadable content, including the following packs:
- Otomo Clan Pack
- Saints and Heroes Unit Pack
- Dragon War Battle Pack
- Ikko Ikki Clan Pack
- Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack
Those are examples from the original catalog, not a substitute for checking the complete included-items list. The Steam FAQ’s wording is broad: it says the documented Complete Edition purchase includes all associated DLC. If a store page lists only a base game, a partial bundle or a separate add-on, do not infer that the rest of the catalog is included.

Expansion ownership is also platform-specific. Buying an add-on, code or bundle for one account does not establish entitlement on another storefront. A Microsoft Store, Epic, GOG or Steam purchase should be treated as a separate license unless the store explicitly states otherwise.
Can you still use Workshop and older Shogun 2 mods?
Legacy Shogun 2 mods remain tied to the original build. The official FAQ states that original Shogun 2 mods are not compatible with Complete Edition’s Mod.IO support. Consequently, a mod collection that worked with the old Steam release may fail to load, alter campaign files incorrectly or simply be unavailable in the newer environment.
If mods are essential
- Choose the Steam package whose description explicitly includes the original game.
- Install and launch the original build before subscribing to or copying a large mod set.
- Keep separate profiles or mod folders for the original and Complete Edition environments.
- Back up saves before switching builds; a save altered by a mod may not behave correctly after removal or migration.
- Do not assume a Mod.IO listing is a conversion of a Steam Workshop mod. Compatibility must be stated by the mod author or confirmed in the mod’s documentation.
Players who never use mods can evaluate Complete Edition on its own merits, but the edition choice still controls which executable and downloadable-content entitlement they receive.
Safe buying workflow
- Start with an official source. Open the current Total War or Creative Assembly announcement, then follow through to the verified Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store or GOG listing. Avoid unsolicited links sent by message, forum reply or email.
- Identify the exact edition. Confirm whether the page says Total War: SHOGUN 2, Complete Edition or a named add-on. A key seller’s use of “original” is not evidence of the Steam build.
- Read the included-content wording. On Steam, the FAQ documents the original game and associated DLC in the Complete Edition purchase. For the other stores, the same FAQ documents Complete Edition only; do not transfer Steam’s promise to those storefronts.
- Match the account and platform. Sign in to the account that will play the game and verify the operating system or console ecosystem shown at checkout. A code for one storefront does not create ownership on another.
- Check mod requirements before payment. If Workshop or legacy mods are part of your plan, select the documented original Steam route and avoid assuming Complete Edition’s Mod.IO system will load them.
- Review the live listing again. The removal and reinstatement process is active. Recheck the title, edition, included items and publisher information immediately before payment.
- Keep proof of purchase. Retain the receipt, order number and product description. These details are useful if the listing changes or the key activates a different edition than advertised.
Listings and keys to avoid
- Unverified third-party keys: A low price does not show that a code is legitimate, region-compatible or for the original build. The official announcements do not validate reseller inventory.
- Ambiguous “Complete” labels: Complete can describe a remaster bundle without promising the legacy Steam executable. Require a precise edition and included-content statement.
- Region-locked codes: A code may activate only in the country or currency region specified by the seller. Store support may not move that entitlement to another account.
- Listings that promise Workshop access: Complete Edition’s Mod.IO support is specifically not compatible with original Shogun 2 mods. A seller cannot make those systems interchangeable.
- Physical-copy claims without a current listing: No source-backed physical product is established here. Treat photographs, marketplace listings and claims of sealed stock as unverified until the platform and activation terms are independently confirmed.
- Requests to share account credentials: Buy a code or license for your own account; never hand a seller your password or authentication code.
Refunds, support and ownership limits
The available official statements resolve which packages are documented, but they do not establish a current price, guarantee a refund, or promise that support will exchange one storefront’s license for another. Refund eligibility follows the store where the transaction occurred and the conditions displayed there at purchase.

If a listing disappears after you buy, first check the library of the account that made the transaction. Existing owners were told they would retain access. If the product is missing, collect the receipt, activation record and screenshots of the original description before contacting that store’s support team.
Do not buy twice merely because a storefront page changes names. Confirm whether the account already owns the original game, Complete Edition or a separate DLC item. A second purchase may create another license rather than upgrade the first one.

Use Steam, provided the live listing still carries the FAQ’s documented inclusion of the original game and associated DLC. Verify the wording at checkout because the reinstatement process can alter availability.

You already own the original Steam release
Check your Steam library before purchasing anything. Existing owners retain access under the 15 October statement, so a new Complete Edition purchase may be unnecessary unless you specifically want its updated presentation and the store clearly explains what additional entitlement it grants.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
You prefer Epic, Microsoft Store or GOG
These are official storefronts for Complete Edition, but the cited FAQ does not promise the original Steam build there. Choose one only if that edition and its platform-specific features meet your needs without relying on legacy Steam mods.
You mainly care about mods
Prioritize the original Steam environment and confirm that your intended mods target that build. Complete Edition’s Mod.IO support should be treated as a separate ecosystem, not an automatic continuation of Workshop-era files.
Bottom line for a safe purchase
For the original Shogun 2 plus its expansions, Steam is the only route explicitly documented as bundling the original game and associated DLC. Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG are legitimate stores for Complete Edition, but the cited FAQ does not extend that original-build promise to them. Because SEGA and Creative Assembly were actively removing and reinstating products in October 2026, verify the live listing, account, edition and included content immediately before payment.
