The closest thing to a wild encounter is the Silver Dapple Pinto in Part III of Albert Mason’s “Arcadia for Amateurs,” at Heartland Overflow. It appears with the mission’s herd, but keeping it is not a dependable, repeatable method; buying the breed at a stable is the ordinary route.
Where the mission herd appears
Part III of “Arcadia for Amateurs” takes place at Heartland Overflow, north of Emerald Ranch and northwest of Emerald Station. Arthur helps photographer Albert Mason herd wild horses so Mason can photograph them. A Silver Dapple Pinto Missouri Fox Trotter is reported among the horses in the scene. Outlawdb’s mission guide and RDR2.org’s guide describe the encounter and location.

How to reach Part III
The Stranger mission chain can begin in Chapter 2. Its earlier encounters are near Strawberry and northwest of Wallace Station; Part III is the horse-herding scene at Heartland Overflow. RDR2.org says the parts can all be completed in Chapter 2 if you wait a few in-game days between encounters. Follow the Stranger mission prompts as they become available, then go to the Heartland Overflow encounter.
Can you keep the Silver Dapple Pinto?
Do not count on it. The horse is present as part of a mission scene, not a normal free-roaming spawn. Outlawdb reports that, in patched behavior, the mission horses cannot be targeted after the scene and despawn after the cutscene. The same page also recounts glitch methods for trying to intercept or keep the Fox Trotter, but its claims about whether those methods still work conflict. It does not establish a platform-specific patch version or reliable success rate, so any such attempt is uncertain and patch-sensitive—not a reliable acquisition guide.

If you want predictable ownership, use the stable-purchase route described by Outlawdb. The available guides do not establish a stable name, unlock chapter, or price, so those details should not be assumed.

The horse herd is part of Mason’s photography mission. Seeing a Missouri Fox Trotter there does not mean the breed has a regular wild spawn you can search for elsewhere. If you visit after the scene, the encounter should not be treated as a repeatable way to find the horse; the reported patched behavior is that the mission horses disappear after the cutscene.

Outlawdb notes a piece of scene-specific dialogue if Arthur approaches Mason after 18:00 in-game: “Alas! We’ve lost the light. Have to save this photograph for another day!” That line concerns the photography scene, not a method for acquiring the Fox Trotter.
