After defeating Talos, head through the Clock Tower and Forgotten Bridge to the Library, then reach the Observation Tower and solve its globe puzzle to open Carmilla’s route. Before entering the arena, use a nearby Mirror of Life to restore all health and refill every flask. During the approach, collect the Fists of Talos from the Builder’s Bureau, spend reachable Brave and Wise Heart Fragments on capacity upgrades, and take nearby ATK or DEF books when they do not require an ability you have not unlocked. Mana healing can be renewed by defeating enemies, but it shares your mana pool with spells, so healing and casting must be planned together.
The route and item locations below follow the October 19, 2026 update of the AllThingsHow route guide and an unofficial interactive atlas. The atlas reports positions checked against installed game data, but its coordinates and rules are guide data rather than first-party documentation.

How do I reach Carmilla after defeating Talos?
Talos gives you the Smash ability needed to leave his arena through a hidden drop. Use it immediately on the cracked golden floor beside the arena; the breakable section drops Rose into the Builder’s Bureau.
- Break the cracked golden floor. Stand on the damaged gold surface next to the Talos arena and activate Smash. This opens the vertical route into the Builder’s Bureau.
- Open the Builder’s Bureau chest. The chest contains the Fists of Talos weapon, listed at ATK 75. It is a permanent weapon pickup and is the most direct post-Talos damage upgrade.
- Return to the Clock Tower. From the tower, cross the Forgotten Bridge. This bridge is the connection between the Clock Tower and the Library section.
- Cross the Library interior. Continue through the Library Foyer and then the Rhetoric Shelves. Do not turn toward unrelated locked routes unless you already have the ability those routes require.
- Enter the Planetarium. The Planetarium leads to the Observation Tower, where the progression puzzle is located.
- Solve the Observation Tower globe puzzle. Interact with the globes in the tower to open the way onward. Once the puzzle is solved, the Carmilla route is available.
In shorthand, the progression line is Clock Tower → Forgotten Bridge → Library → Planetarium → Observation Tower globes → Carmilla. The Builder’s Bureau chest is a side pickup reached with Smash, not a replacement for this route.

Where can I heal before the Carmilla fight?
You have four practical healing sources: the L1 mana heal, flask charges, Mirrors of Life, and a hidden full-health food pickup. They serve different purposes, so the safest preparation combines a renewable resource with a checkpoint rather than relying on one item.
Use a Mirror of Life immediately before the arena
A Mirror of Life is the strongest pre-fight reset. Activating one fully restores health, refills your flask charges, and sets your respawn point. If you find a mirror on the final approach, use it even when Rose is only partly injured: entering with a full health bar and every flask avoids wasting the checkpoint’s restoration.
Recommended Free Tools
The mirror also changes the cost of a failed attempt. Because it establishes the respawn point, a defeat sends you back to a known preparation position instead of forcing a long replay from an earlier room. Treat the closest mirror as your staging area: heal there, check equipment, then make the final approach without spending resources on optional encounters.
Spend flask charges for predictable emergency healing
Flasks are limited health charges that can be used on the approach or during the boss fight. Their value is reliability: they restore health without requiring an enemy to be available and without drawing from the mana pool reserved for spells. Enter the arena with the charges refilled by the Mirror of Life, then use them only when waiting for another opportunity to deal damage would be more dangerous than consuming a charge.

Do not spend every flask on chip damage from the approach. If a room can be cleared safely, preserve charges for Carmilla; the mirror’s refill is most useful when the charges reach the arena intact.
Use the L1 mana heal when you can replace the mana
The L1 heal consumes mana. Mana returns by defeating enemies, so the heal is renewable during exploration when you have safe targets to clear. That renewable supply has a major limitation: healing and spells draw from the same pool. Casting repeatedly before the boss can leave you unable to heal, while healing too often can leave no mana for a spell you intended to use.

A practical rhythm is to clear enemies on the approach when you need mana, heal only when the recovered health justifies the cost, and stop spending mana once you have enough for the spell plan you want to carry into the arena. If the final room contains no safe enemy group, do not assume another mana refill will be available before Carmilla.
Look for the hidden full-health food pickup
The healing guide identifies a full-health food pickup behind a breakable wall near a boss route. Check suspicious breakable walls on the Carmilla approach, particularly when the visible path offers no mirror. Food is a one-time pickup rather than a checkpoint, so use it as a deliberate top-up instead of taking damage to reach it or treating it as a repeatable source.

Which upgrades are worth collecting before Carmilla?
Prioritize upgrades that improve survival or damage without sending you into a locked route. The available collectibles divide into permanent capacity increases, offensive or defensive books, and the Smash-gated Fists of Talos weapon.
| Upgrade | What the guide reports | Why it matters before Carmilla | Repeatability and route cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brave Heart Fragments | 24 fragments are listed; four fragments make one maximum-health upgrade. | More maximum health increases the amount of damage Rose can absorb before healing. | Permanent collectible; collect reachable fragments, but check for story or ability gates before detouring. |
| Wise Heart Fragments | 24 fragments are listed; four fragments make one maximum-magic upgrade. | More maximum magic gives a larger pool for spells and L1 healing, although both still compete for that pool. | Permanent collectible; prioritize a nearby pair or any set that completes an upgrade without a long locked-route detour. |
| ATK books | The map guide lists 14 ATK books. | Raises offensive capability and can shorten dangerous encounters. | Permanent collectible; take nearby books when the room is already on the Carmilla route. |
| DEF books | The map guide lists 14 DEF books. | Improves defensive capacity, making mistakes less costly during the approach and fight. | Permanent collectible; avoid abandoning the route for a gated book unless the required ability is already available. |
| Fists of Talos | Weapon chest in the Builder’s Bureau; ATK 75. | A direct post-Talos weapon upgrade obtained with Smash. | One-time chest pickup; collect it before crossing the Forgotten Bridge. |
The atlas index also records 41 relic chests and 24 weapons across the game. Those totals describe the full map, not guaranteed pre-Carmilla pickups, so do not interpret every indexed chest as available on this approach.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →How many fragments should I collect on the approach?
Collect any Brave or Wise fragments that are in rooms you can reach without opening a separate ability-gated branch. A fragment pair can be strategically valuable when it brings you close to the next capacity increase, but a long backtrack for one isolated fragment delays the mirror and adds opportunities to lose health. Use the atlas room index to determine whether a marker is blocked by story progress or a movement or combat ability.
When should I choose ATK over DEF?
Choose ATK books when you are comfortable surviving the route and want encounters to end faster; choose DEF books when mistakes or unavoidable contact are consuming your healing resources. Neither choice replaces the pre-fight mirror reset. The useful decision is the one that addresses the resource you are actually losing on your attempts, not an abstract preference for offense or defense.

How do I use the atlas without wasting time?
The unofficial atlas lists 28 upgrade books, 24 fragments of each heart type, 38 healing-food markers, and 35 Mirrors of Life. It supports searches by item name or category, which makes it useful for planning a targeted sweep rather than opening every room on the map.
- Search by category first. Search for Brave Heart Fragment, Wise Heart Fragment, ATK book, DEF book, food, and Mirror of Life separately so the route does not become a list of unrelated collectibles.
- Start from the Clock Tower and mark the Library line. The relevant progression rooms are the Forgotten Bridge, Library Foyer, Rhetoric Shelves, Planetarium, and Observation Tower.
- Check each marker’s room index entry. The atlas indicates when a location is gated by story progress or by an ability. A marker behind an ability gate is a return trip, not a reason to abandon the Carmilla route.
- Plan the last mirror before the arena. Make that checkpoint the endpoint of your sweep, then return there after collecting any nearby upgrade that does not require a separate branch.
Because the atlas is a fan project, treat its exact room coordinates as navigation help. If an item appears to be missing, verify the room name and the required ability before assuming the item has moved or the game has failed to register it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIs the Thrilling Eye detour necessary before Carmilla?
No. The Thrilling Eye is an optional Hospital pickup, not part of the direct route to Carmilla. It is found on an occult wheel altar in the Hospital, reached from the Street of the Tomb Masons in Paris Streets.
Take the detour if you are already collecting the three eyes needed for the Circle of Greed door or if the Hospital route is open and you want the collectible. Skip it when your immediate goal is a clean Carmilla attempt: the detour adds travel and encounters without supplying the mirror reset, flask refill, or direct weapon chest on the main route.

What should I do immediately before entering Carmilla’s arena?
Use this order so permanent upgrades and consumables are handled before the one-way commitment of the fight.
- Confirm that Smash is available and collect the Fists of Talos from the Builder’s Bureau chest.
- On the Clock Tower-to-Library route, take reachable Brave or Wise Heart Fragments and nearby ATK or DEF books only when their room is not ability-gated.
- Search breakable walls near the boss approach for the hidden full-health food pickup.
- Clear enemies only when you need mana for the L1 heal, remembering that those same points may be needed for spells.
- Reach the nearest Mirror of Life, activate it, and verify that health and flask charges are full.
- Enter the Observation Tower, solve the globe puzzle, and proceed to Carmilla with your flask charges preserved and your chosen weapon equipped.
This sequence separates permanent preparation from expendable resources. Fragments, books, and the weapon remain available on future attempts, while the mirror and flasks determine how much margin you have in the current fight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I heal without using a flask before Carmilla?
Yes. The L1 mana heal does not consume a flask, and defeating enemies can restore the mana needed to use it again. Because spells use the same mana pool, reserve enough mana for the casting plan you intend to use in the arena.
Is the Fists of Talos weapon required to unlock Carmilla?
The Builder’s Bureau chest is an upgrade opened with Smash, while the progression route continues through the Clock Tower, Forgotten Bridge, Library, Planetarium, and Observation Tower. Treat the weapon as valuable preparation rather than as a stated progression key.
How can I tell whether an atlas marker is currently obtainable?
Open the marker’s room entry and check its story or ability requirement. If the entry names a movement or combat ability you do not have, mark the location for a later return instead of detouring from the boss route.
What is the Thrilling Eye used for?
It is one of the three eyes associated with the Circle of Greed door. The Hospital altar pickup is optional for reaching Carmilla, so its value depends on whether you are pursuing that separate door objective.
