Nintendo Switch 2 launched in the U.S. on June 5, 2025. For that day, Best Buy and Target announced specific in-store plans, while contemporary reports described options at Walmart, GameStop, Costco, and Staples. Those details are historical: they cannot tell you which stores have a console in stock now.

The retailers’ launch plans differed in opening times, walk-in inventory, and how shoppers queued or qualified to buy. The table summarizes what was reported at the time; it does not confirm that every location participated or had stock for every shopper.

| Best Buy | Nearly all U.S. stores announced opening at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 5, 2025; equivalent times were 11:01 p.m. CT, 10:01 p.m. MT, and 9:01 p.m. PT. | Best Buy announced limited quantities of consoles, games, and accessories for walk-in customers, alongside preorder pickup. These were launch plans, not regular store hours. Best Buy, May 29, 2025. |
| Target | Stores sold the console and Mario Kart World bundle on June 5; Target’s app and website were scheduled to offer them June 6, while supplies lasted. | Target described queues before opening and physical or digital tickets to reserve products. What the launch plans meant for shoppers
Best Buy: a stated walk-in allocation
Best Buy’s clearest in-store option was its explicit announcement that a limited number of consoles, games, and accessories would be available to walk-ins at opening, in addition to preorder pickups. That established a walk-in path, not a guarantee that a particular store would still have a console when a shopper arrived.

Target’s plan centered on pre-opening queues and physical or digital tickets. A ticket reserved a product under the announced process; the per-item guest limit and limited supply still applied. Target’s online sale was announced for June 6, not June 5.

Other retailers: check the location-specific details
For Walmart, Costco, and Staples, the contemporaneous Axios report highlighted regional timing, membership terms, or location-dependent availability. AP named GameStop among the launch’s online and in-store sales paths. Neither report supports assuming that every branch had walk-in stock or the same procedure.
Why no retailer can be called the surest bet
The available launch reporting describes policies and broad availability conditions, not store-by-store inventory or a shopper’s odds of getting a console. It therefore cannot establish which retailer was most likely to have a unit for a particular person. Nintendo’s suggested U.S. retail prices at launch were $449.99 for the console and $499.99 for the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle; those launch prices are not evidence of current pricing. Nintendo later reported more than 3.5 million units worldwide in the first four days after launch. That global launch-period sell-through figure is not a count of U.S. in-store units or remaining stock. Nintendo investor report, 2025.
