How to get Spine Nubs
Spine Nub is a Tier 2 creature resource, and Caterpillars are its source, according to the unofficial Grounded 2 Wiki resource entry. A PC Gamer guide published July 29, 2025 describes this route:
- Go to Ranger Outpost: Snackbar.
- Look west of the outpost for a large leafy plant with a Caterpillar.
- Climb up using the nearby woodpile.
- Defeat the Caterpillar and harvest its remains for Spine Nubs.
PC Gamer describes Caterpillars as low-health and docile, including when attacked with a hammer. Treat that as the guide’s gameplay advice rather than a guarantee for every encounter or game build. The guide does not provide precise coordinates.
Where to look for more Caterpillars
The same PC Gamer guide mentions additional Caterpillars near Snackbar and in Pine Hills Hedge. It characterizes Pine Hills Hedge as the more dangerous option. It also reports that the Snackbar-area Caterpillar respawns daily, but does not establish that every Caterpillar has the same respawn schedule or that this behavior is unchanged in the current build.

Grounded 2 remains in Game Preview on Xbox and Early Access on Steam in the context of Obsidian’s update 0.2 page. That update page does not confirm Spine Nub locations or the specific respawn behavior, so check your current save if the guide’s route does not match what you see.
