You can find the NES006 specimen in any one of three Episode: Echoes Battlegrounds: Conduit, Core, or Delve. The documented 2024 directions point to a distinct landmark in each activity, and only one specimen pickup is needed. The original guides also describe a Proximity Sensor Alert at Failsafe as part of the pickup flow; however, Bungie’s later notices do not confirm that a new player can still start or complete the NES006 quest.
NES006 specimen locations
These locations were documented by Shacknews and PC Gamer on July 31, 2024. Choose any of the three activities and search the matching room or landmark.

| Battleground: Core | Look in the rally-banner room before the final boss. After passing the spinning lasers to reach it, check the left side. |
| Battleground: Delve | After dropping into the room with the second planetary piston, search beside it, on the right. |
The descriptions above come from the Shacknews guide and PC Gamer guide. Their directions do not establish that any route is faster or easier than the others.
How the documented pickup and quest flow works
The 2024 guide sequence begins at Failsafe in the H.E.L.M. and uses the Proximity Sensor Alert option in Research Bays. After collecting the specimen in a Battleground, return to Failsafe to receive the Specimen ID: NES006 quest. Shacknews likewise describes collecting the specimen before claiming the quest.

- Visit Failsafe in the H.E.L.M. and select Proximity Sensor Alert in Research Bays.
- Launch one of the three Episode: Echoes Battlegrounds and search the corresponding landmark in the table.
- Use the proximity cue to help locate the specimen, then interact with it.
- Return to Failsafe to claim the Specimen ID: NES006 quest.
PC Gamer says a proximity bar and beeping provide cues when you are near the specimen. These are the historical directions in the July 2024 guide, not confirmation that the same menu or quest interaction remains available in the current client.

Current availability is not settled by the official notices. Bungie says Episode: Echoes bounties, missions, quests, engrams, seasonal heirlooms, and artifacts were deprecated from inventories at the start of Year 8 on July 15, 2025. Its Destiny Content Vault page lists Episode: Echoes among seasonal narratives moved into the vault, but Echoes Battlegrounds are not named in that page’s Year 8 activities list. That omission does not establish that the Battlegrounds remain launchable or that a new player can trigger the specimen pickup.

Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 support guide says content available as of Update 9.5.6.3, along with content added in 9.7.0, would be available on and after June 9, 2026. It does not specifically confirm that the NES006 quest interaction works. If you are attempting it now, treat the 2024 directions as location guidance rather than a guarantee that the activity or quest can be newly accessed.
