The Pyromancer’s Key is in Avowed’s Dawnshore region, lying beside the remains of the Crazed Pyromancer on a ridge near Berath’s Gateway. It opens the Pyromancer’s Chest at a nearby camp. The key and the chest are two separate steps, so you need both to collect the loot.
Where the key is
Head to the ridge overlooking Berath’s Gateway in Dawnshore. The key sits next to the skeleton of the Crazed Pyromancer. Published guides agree on this spot, though they describe different ways to get there.
Routes to the ridge
Guides give two landmark-based approaches. Pick whichever starting point is easier for you to reach. Because the step-by-step directions differ between guides, follow the landmarks rather than exact turn-by-turn wording.
Route A: from Dehengen’s Cottage
- Start at Dehengen’s Cottage.
- Cross the eastern bridge.
- Take the northward bridge, then follow the path.
- Climb the slope, then turn toward the Crazed Pyromancer’s remains on the ridge.

Route B: from the chest camp and graveyard
- Find the camp by Berath’s Gateway, where the Pyromancer’s Chest is.
- Read the Scorched Journal by the camp. GINX uses this as a waypoint.
- Look for the ridge overlooking Berath’s Gateway, and reach it through the graveyard and its path.
GINX’s guide describes this approach. If you are already at the chest, this is the shortest way to the key.

A note on area names
Gamepressure places the chest and key hill in the Ivona’s Thresholds area. Other guides use Berath’s Gateway, the nearby camp, or Dehengen’s Cottage as their reference points. If a map label does not match the guide, trust the landmark the guide names rather than the area title.
Using the key on the Pyromancer’s Chest
Take the key to the Pyromancer’s Chest at the camp near Berath’s Gateway. Destructoid describes the chest as sitting near some tents and an unlit campfire, which helps you confirm you are at the right spot. Interact with the chest while holding the key to open it.

What the chest contains
Guides list different rewards, so the table below shows what each source names. A blank cell means that source did not list the category.

The sources agree that the chest holds gameplay loot, including grimoires, but they do not agree on every item. Treat the table as a guide to the kinds of rewards you can expect rather than a guaranteed list. Reward contents may differ by game version, so if your chest holds something not listed here, that is likely the reason.
