On PC or Mac, open Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. If the Mods folder is not there, EA says you can create it inside the The Sims 4 folder. Mods are not supported on PlayStation or Xbox.
Where is the Sims 4 Mods folder?
The Mods folder belongs in the game’s user-data folder—not its program or installation directory. The usual path is Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. EA identifies this location in its The Sims 4 mod installation instructions.

You can also recognize the correct The Sims 4 folder because it stores player data such as saves. EA uses Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 when describing PC-to-Mac save transfers in its The Sims 4 FAQ.
What if the Mods folder is missing?
Look inside the user-data folder at Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. If there is no Mods folder, create a folder named Mods there. EA Help explicitly allows creating it; this current official guidance takes precedence over older forum advice suggesting not to create it manually.

If you see more than one Electronic Arts or The Sims 4 folder, Documents may be redirected or synced. OneDrive and similar services can result in duplicate-looking locations, according to the EA Forums mod and custom-content guide. Check which Documents location the game is actually using rather than choosing a folder just because its name looks right.
Put files in the right place and enable mods
- Extract downloaded archives. Unzip ZIP or RAR downloads before placing their mod files in the Mods folder, as EA’s installation guide instructs.
- Place the extracted mod files in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. Do not put another folder named Mods inside the actual Mods folder.
- Enable the settings in the game. Open Game Options > Other and turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods.
- Relaunch The Sims 4. EA says to restart the game after changing the mod setting.
Mods and custom content go in Mods. The EA forum guide distinguishes those from Tray files, which are used for saved Sims and lots.

Can I use Sims 4 mods on PlayStation or Xbox?
No. EA supports mods on PC and Mac, but says mods cannot be downloaded on PlayStation or Xbox. The folder instructions above apply to PC and Mac versions of The Sims 4.
