The most reliable early bed in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II comes from a story reward. After Henry reaches Troskowitz, you can earn a room by following either the blacksmith storyline or the miller storyline. Those rooms are assigned to Henry, so you can sleep and save in them without trouble. Free beds scattered around the map work too, but they carry a different set of risks, which the sections below explain.

The fastest reliable early bed: follow a quest route

Two progression routes unlock a room for Henry. Both are documented in guides for the game, so they are safer than hunting for an unassigned bed.

Blacksmith route

Speak with Radovan in Tachov and complete The Blacksmith’s Son. Gameranx’s February 6, 2025 guide, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – How To Get A Free Bed, says this gives Henry a room in the blacksmith’s building.

Miller route

Help the miller Kreyzl with his storyline. Gameranx says the miller storyline also unlocks a room and bed. Gamer Guides places a bed in Kreyzl’s attic and says it unlocks when Henry offers to help him.

  • Live life through the eyes and actions of Henry, a young man on a quest to avenge his murdered parents. His story – illustrated with over five hours of stunning cinematics – takes him from aspiring warrior to rebel, crossing paths with a charismatic cast of characters and an unforgettable set of adventures, as he goes up against the King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox and his fearsome allies.
  • Your actions shape Henry’s destiny and how the world will react to him. Customize freely his appearance, skills and equipment while taking a moral stance on the events around you. Travel round the land engaging in unique activities, such as blacksmithing and archery, to truly immerse yourself in this vibrant region of Europe that will remember your actions, forever.
  • This stunningly authentic rendition of 15th Century Bohemia allows you to experience this fascinating setting like never before. Get lost in a sprawling city, engage with peasants and talk with nobles while exploring a vast and rich countryside with taverns, bath houses, castles and more.
  • Feel the clash of steel and visceral combat as you engage in thrilling real-time battles. There’s a range of authentic weapons and combat styles to suit every player. On foot, horse or by stealth, you can specialise in elegant sword mastery, brutal blunt weapons or deadly ranged attacks.

Because these beds come from quest progress, they depend on how far you have gone in the story. If you cannot find the room, check whether the quest step has actually completed before searching the building again.

Free-bed locations on the map

Gamer Guides’ free-bed listings name four locations. The table below lists each one with its unlock condition and what the guide says about it.

Location Region How it becomes available Notes from the source
Tutorial house Trosky Inside the house you visit during the tutorial Available early; Gamer Guides lists it as a free bed
Miller Kreyzl’s attic Trosky Unlocks when Henry offers to help the miller Tied to the miller storyline
Blacksmith’s house, southernmost room Trosky Available after completing The Blacksmith’s Son Tied to the blacksmith storyline
Hay outside a barn Kuttenberg Listed as a place to sleep Gameranx says hay gives less fatigue relief than a proper bed

The hay option is the only one in the list that is not a bed in the ordinary sense. Use it as an emergency rest spot, not as your regular place to save.

Is an unassigned bed safe to use?

Not always. An assigned or rented bed is one that belongs to Henry for his use. A random bed may belong to an NPC, and sleeping in it can get you into trouble. A map marker for a bed does not confirm that the bed is free to use.

As a rule, use a bed only when its interaction clearly allows sleep and saving, or when it is one of the quest-granted or rented beds above.

Finding your rented tavern room

If you have paid for a room at an inn, the bed is only yours while you know where it is. AltChar says a green garland hangs over the door of the correct room, and the bed inside can be used to sleep and save.

  1. Walk up to the innkeeper and open the conversation.
  2. Select “Where’s my Room?”
  3. Follow the path to the room marked by the green garland over its door.
  4. Interact with the bed in that room to sleep and save.

If the innkeeper does not offer that option, you probably have not rented a room at that location yet.

Why an owned bed matters

Gameranx describes sleeping in a bed as removing fatigue, passing time, and saving your progress. Its guide also says the shared chest near owned beds can be reached from other owned-bed chests. The source gives no numerical recovery values, so treat these as qualitative descriptions of how the game works rather than measured effects.

Sleeping in an owned bed is the most dependable way to recover fatigue and save. Hay is the fallback for when you have no other option.

Nomad Camp beds need ownership first

Do not assume every bed at the Nomad Camp is free. The KCD2.org camp guide says resident beds have owners. Completing the quest Miri Fajta can give Henry the sleeping quarters once belonging to Gejza. Until then, use only a bed whose interaction explicitly allows sleep and saving, or sleep at an inn.

Quick checklist

  • Early reliable bed: finish the blacksmith story (Radovan, Tachov) or the miller story.
  • Free bed with no quest: the tutorial house, if you are still early enough to visit it.
  • Rented room: ask the innkeeper for “Where’s my Room?” and look for the green garland.
  • Nomad Camp: complete Miri Fajta before counting on the sleeping quarters there.
  • Anything else: use it only when the bed’s interaction allows sleep and saving.

Sources cited here are guides from 2025, so check the map and quest steps against your current game version if a location behaves differently.

Notes: Gameranx (February 6, 2025), Gamer Guides’ free-bed listings, AltChar, and the KCD2.org camp guide. None of these were verified by gameplay testing for this article.
