Gift of Gab is a persuasion activity in Where Winds Meet. In its main mode, Rhetoric Duel, you spend regenerating Inspiration to play cards and reduce your opponent’s Mental Focus before yours runs out. Choose the style the game recommends, read the card effects, and use the on-screen prompts; the dialogue bubbles are not the main measure of what is happening.

Gift of Gab is an in-game activity, not a standalone debate simulator. The guides describe two modes, though one is only available sometimes:

Pick the suggested debate style
Before a duel, choose one of four styles: Bluster, Provocation, Rebuttal, or Filibuster. The guides disagree about the precise direction of the style-counter loop, so do not rely on a memorized chart. When the game suggests a style for the opponent, choose that counter-style; this is the practical recommendation shared by the guides.

Manage Mental Focus and Inspiration
Mental Focus functions like a contestant’s health: the goal is to bring the opponent’s down before your own is depleted. Cards cost Inspiration, which regenerates over time. Consider both the cost and the effect before playing; spending your whole pool immediately can leave you without resources to sustain pressure.

Use prompts; treat dialogue as flavor

The cited PC guide names Q or E for its controls, but controls can vary by platform. During active prompts or timed actions, prioritize what the interface asks you to do over the opponent’s chat-bubble dialogue.
If early duels feel too difficult: unlock Scholar
PC Gamer and a Steam community guide describe a progression route that can improve your options. PC Gamer characterizes the minigame as stat-based and says Scholar made matches more winnable in the author’s experience; that is a guide observation, not a guarantee for every player or version.
- Reach level 13.
- Speak to Song Jiu at Heaven’s Pier to start the exploration quest Gift of the Gab: Silver Tongue. Some menus refer to it as Gift of the Gab: Spring.
- Complete that quest.
- In the exploration tab, track Legacy: Scholar’s Path and go to Deerforage Grove.
Quest names and requirements can change. If the current client’s journal differs from this route, use the journal’s wording and objectives.
